Fanfic / Deku the Villain Hunter: Support Hero

Go To

On the day All Might told him he couldn't be a hero due to being quirkless, Midoriya Izuku came to an intersection and made a small decision that changed his life forever: He went left instead of right. This resulted in Izuku not seeing Bakugou in danger and rushing in to save him, thus spurring on All Might to surpass his limits and step in.

And because of this, Bakugou dies. Thus Izuku goes down a path of a quirkless vigilante, using technology instead of a quirk to fight villains.

Deku the Villain Hunter: Support Hero is a Point of Divergence story by NickTheHuman on Archive of Our Own.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Murder: Eri tries to use her Quirk to regrow Mirio's arm after Overhaul destroys it. However, she loses control and erases the student.
  • Adaptational Badass: Midoriya in canon wasn't all that impressive before receiving One For All (and even then, he suffered from Power Incontinence). Here, he's a Gadgeteer Genius Vigilante Man who hunts down villains with nothing but his own skill and gadgets. This also applies to how he uses One For All. In canon, it took Izuku months before he was even able to get it to a point where it didn't break his limbs. Here, he's able to do so in a matter of days. What's more is that he is able to handle double the amount of power he was able to when he came up with Full Cowl. An argument could also be made that he didn't need to train himself to a point where he would be able to withstand the power but that's possibly a result of his months of vigilantism.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Mei calls Izuku Deku...that is, Deku Shrub due to his hair. Since the last person to call him Deku was Bakugo (and he sure as hell didn't mean it affectionately), he takes a little to get used to it.
  • All Women Are Lustful: Mei is clearly the one pushing for intimacy in her relationship with Izuku. She only agrees to leave the lab if she can spend the night in his room.
"One way or another, I'm making babies tonight!"
  • Anyone Can Die: Bakugou, Iida, Kouta, All Might, Mirio, Sir Nighteye, Centipeder, and Bubble Girl have all died so far.
  • Ascended Extra: Mei is a major character and Izuku's girlfriend and partner.
  • Babies Ever After: In the epilogue, it's revealed that Hatsume is pregnant.
  • Berserk Button: DO NOT try to haggle Mei.
Hatsume (about Endeavor): "...and if he tries to HORNSWOGGLE his way out OF MY EXCELLENT AND MODERATELY PRICED QUALITY GOODS, THIS SCREWDRIVER WILL GO RIGHT UP HIS ASS!"
    • Izuku when he learns Todoroki is only using half his power at the sports festival gives him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.
"I WENT MY WHOLE LIFE WANTING TO BE A HERO!” Midoriya screamed, abandoning his weaponry and slugging Todoroki across the jaw. “BUT I’M JUST SOME QUIRKLESS WANNABE! DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE LIKE ME WOULD KILL TO BE AS STRONG AS YOU?!”
  • Big Bad: The villains Midoriya hunts down are each the Big Bad of their own arc and only get more dangerous as the story progresses.
    • The Sludge Villain is the first one, being the one to kill Bakugou and as such the first villain Midoriya faces.
    • Stain is Izuku's next target after killing Tenya Iida and is so dangerous that it takes the combined efforts of Izuku and Mei fighting dirty to defeat him.
    • Todoroki who kills All Might and is the first hero to actively hunt the villain hunter down.
    • Toga is obsessed with Izuku being her boyfriend, kidnapping Mei and sending him videos to lead him around on her whims in an effort to make him love her.
  • The Call Knows Where You Live: After Izuku refuses One For All, he ends up having to take it anyway after Mirio is erased by Eri.
  • Deader than Dead: Mirio ends up erased from existence thanks to Eri's Quirk going haywire.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Todoroki joins the League of Villains and kills All Might.
  • Fallen Hero: Todoroki.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: Izuku is forced to do this by using Mirio's Quirk to escape an electrified cage and defeat Toga.
  • It Runs in the Family: Mei got her habit of calling her inventions " babies " from her parents.
  • Missing Mom: Mei's mother died of illness. This caused his father to feel into depression, alcoholism and lose his love for inventing. It's the reason Hatsume is initially so against a relationship with Izuku, who is living a dangerous life as a vigilante.
  • Official Couple: For a time Izuku and Tsuyu were one but they eventually broke up with Izuku becoming Mei's boyfriend and Tsuyu getting together with Tokoyami and later Ochako.
  • Point of Divergence: This entire fic starts out with Bakugou dying and Midoriya dealing with the repercussions. Of course, there's going to be differences.
    • First of all, because Midoriya never went back to the Sludge Villain fight, All Might never gets his Heroic Second Wind and as such, Bakugou dies and the Sludge Villain gets away. This in turn motivates Midoriya to become a vigilante and use the Support Course to help him be able to defeat the Sludge Villain.
    • All Might doesn't give Midoriya One For All and thanks to Power Loader becoming his mentor, Midoriya becomes more interested in the Support Course. He doesn't join Class 1-A and neither does Bakugou (for obvious reasons) which leads to the class not having the two motivating forces that they did in canon. As such a good portion of the class fails to get their provisional licences.
    • Because Midoriya did not enter the Entrance Exam, he does not gain Iida's respect nor does he befriend him or Uraraka. While Midoriya does eventually befriend them later on, their relationship is not as close as it was in the Sports Festival so he doesn't know anything is wrong when Tensei gets injured and thus does not search for Iida in Hosu, which allows Stain to kill him.
    • Midoriya never tries to help Todoroki, nor does he befriend him meaning that Todoroki doesn't help him when they fight against Stain. Because Midoriya forced Todoroki to use his fire, people started comparing Todoroki to his father. His response to this caused the resentment to pile up culminating in him join the League of Villains in an attempt to spite Endeavor, which leads to him killing All Might and getting thrown in prison when Midoriya and Hatsume defeat him.
  • Powered Armor: Izuku's mentoring under Power Loader includes building one of these. He and Mei later steal it and begin upgrading it for use in battle.
  • Refusal of the Call: Izuku is offered One For All along with Mirio after All Might dies. He turns it down as he enjoys building and using tech to fight crime as a vigilante.
  • Romantic False Lead: Tsuyu, for both Izuku and Tokoyami.
  • Secret-Keeper: Tsuyu, Tokoyami, and Mei all know Izuku is a vigilante using tech to fight crime.
  • Second Place Is for Losers: Despite coming second place in the Sports Festival, Izuku doesn't receive the chance to go into the Hero Course: as All Might says, that's to help students perfect their Quirks, and they wouldn't now what to do with a Quirkless boy who needs gadgets.
  • Sliding Scale of Villain Effectiveness: Happens as the story goes on. Midoriya was able to take down the Sludge Villain singlehandedly with his gadgets but his next target, Stain, forced Midoriya to build a suit of armor and get Hatsume indirectly involved. Then Todoroki forced Mei to physically get onto the field.
  • Spider Limbs: Izuku's main tech is a pack that holds a variety of grenades and four spider-like legs for increased mobility and combat options.
  • Yandere: Toga is one like in canon, obsessed with Midoriya and making him her boyfriend.
