Fanfic / Cline Operation Memory Lane

Go To

SHIELD has learned that Hydra is involved with Project Chimera, and that one Hydra base in particular is key to their involvement. And so Maria "Captain America" Vincennes and the rest of Team Seven are deployed to investigate the situation, and learn more about the dread project.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, Mari "Captain America" Makinami is doing her all to get the Extraordinary Avengers in the mood for Thanksgiving when she learns that the same girl who has been impersonating her on multiple occasions will be infiltrating a Hydra base. Determined to make sure that her reputation isn't dragged through the mud again, she sets off to confront her doppelganger.

And when the two Captain Americas cross paths, all hell breaks loose.

This story has the following Tropes:

  • A-Cup Angst: Maria is somewhat annoyed when Mari points out that Maria isn't quite as busty as Mari herself is, and makes it clear that Mari is not to mention this to Joker.
  • Call-Back: Mari's mentioning that Maria's bust size is noticeably smaller than her own. Joker made note of this in Coreline Operation Hard Entry, stating that it was the sort of thing people would notice. As well, the various times that Maria had pretended to be Mari for the sake of a False Flag Operation are the reason why Mari decided to interfere with the mission in the first place.
  • Death by Origin Story: In Maria's origin, it turns out that Steve Rogers fell prey to this trope. And thanks to Dr. Abraham Erskine being dead and her being the only one with the Super Soldier Serum in her, Maria was left to be the Captain America of the world of her origin.
  • Playing with Syringes: Maria was injected with a large amount of Super-Soldier Serum (enough that she could have died if the Vita-Ray Chamber hadn't exploded because of sabotage and bathed her with said energy, not that her uncle would have probably given a damn - he only injected her in any case because the monkey had run away and he was on a deadline.
  • Values Dissonance: An important In-Universe part of Maria's origin story: because it happened during The '40s, Maria's pre-Super Serum brain, deficient as it was, wasn't going to provide her with a bright future (her uncle seriously hoped that injecting her with the Serum would kill her, because he was fed up with having to provide for her)... and after she became a Super-Soldier, the fact that she was a girl and a teenager meant that the U.S. military had no desire whatsoever to use her until it was absolutely necessary, and even then it was on the most top secret of missions.
