Camp Cretaceous: Survial
Is a Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous fanfic deviating from the end of season 1, exploring the Campers attempts to survive after living on Isla Nublar.
Contains the following tropes:
- Adaptation Deviation: A couple that don't really fit below have come up.
- In season 2 the campers ultimately base themselves out of a treehouse they construct on the site of Camp Cretaceous. Here they instead take refuge in a hotel.
- Ben in canon, before reuniting with the others simply made a small shelter in the jungle next to a rock, whereas here he sets up camp in the Jurassic Park Visitor Center.
- Speaking of the Visitor Center, season 3 establishes that Blue claimed it as her territory until itis destroyed in the battle between Blue and the Campers against the Scorpius Rexes. Here Toro claims it instead.
- Adaptational Backstory Change: Canonically Brooklyn has two dads, and no mention is made of her mother. Here she lives with her mother after her father died overseas.
- Adaptational Badass: Zig-Zagged with Ben. On the one hand he did not defeat Toro as he did in canon, however, as detailed in Brave Ben initially remained the same wimp he was originally, until he was backed into a corner, whereas here he immediately switches to survivalist mode upon realizing he's stranded on the Island.
- Adaptational Early Appearance: In season 2, aside from Darius' nightmare in episode 1, Ben does not reappear until the end of episode 4, with Episode 5 detailing his exploits between falling from the monorail up to his reunion with Kenji and Brooklyn. By comparison the author employs a Two Lines, No Waiting style; regularly switching between focusing on the other Campers exploits and Ben's.
- Alas, Poor Villain: Upon discovering the remains of the velociraptor from Jurassic Park, locked in the freezer Ben just feels sympathy for the way the creature died.
- All for Nothing: All Yaz sneaking out on her own to find Ben achieved was finding no evidence of Ben where he fell, leaving her assuming that he died and was eaten, and her own existing injuries being made much worse.
- The excursion to the communication building only reveals that it was destroyed, making the fact that Brooklyn nearly dies and Kenji is badly burned worse.
- Asshole Victim: Upon discovering that the corpse they've discovered is Denis Nedry, the man who brought down Jurassic Park Yaz declares that he had what happened coming to him.
- Awesomeness by Analysis: Upon catching a glimpse of Rexy Darius is able to identify the scars on her as being caused by the Indominus, correctly assuming that if Rexy fought the hybrid and is still alive, then it must not be.
- Bloodier and Gorier: The story details the wounds the kids suffer, which is significantly worse than the ones from canon.
- Call-Back: To both Jurassic Park and Jurassic World.
- In chapter 3, The campers find the corpse of Dennis Nedry while Ben sets up camp in the Visitor's Center, where he finds the remains of the raptor Lex and Tim locked in the freezer
- In chapter 5 Yaz takes a security key from the corpse of Vic Hoskins.
- Darker and Edgier: In canon, the only actual injuries the camper's suffer is Yaz's ankle in season 1, and Sammy being hit by a Scorpius Rex quill in season 3. By comparison Kenji, Yaz and Brooklyn are all badly wounded over the course of the story, with the later two nearly dying, while Ben is laid up for several days because of a poisonous spider bite.
- Driven to Suicide: Discussed. In Chapter 10, Darius admits he didn't know what he'd have done if Kenji hadn't arrived to save Brooklyn, while looking over the waterfall, with the clear indication that he would've probably killed himself.
- Mercy Kill: Discussed but thankfully averted, when Yaz slips into a coma in chapter 7. Faced with the reality that they do not have the means to keep her alive if she doesn't wake up, Kenji brings up the possibility of them having to put her out of her misery. Thankfully she wakes up.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Yaz going off on her own to try and find Ben, already suffering from her bad ankle, and a bite on her arm, results in her getting attacked, ending up so injured she cannot even make it down stairs.
- Darius not telling Brooklyn that he and Sammy were leaving the Hotel to collect firewood results in her suffering a panic attack, her resulting What the Hell, Hero? accidentally triggers Darius to have a panic attack himself.
- No Periods, Period: Averted, after passing out after falling down the stairs Yaz realizes her period has started with Sammy noting she and Brooklyn will probably be in the same situation soon.
- That Came Out Wrong: Darius panics when his attempt to explain why he's having a hard time looking at Brooklyn (because the bruises she got when she fell over make it look like someone beat her up, making Darius feel irrationally angry) consist of him telling her that her face is the problem.
