Enemies is a dark AU Amphibia fanfiction and the sequel of Amphibia Friends, which is a Recursive Fanfiction for The Plantar Family Pet. It is written by DarkHououmon. The story continues from where Friends ends. The girls have returned to Earth after all the trauma they endured, but the past continues to haunt them and new threats has risen that may again shatter their lives.

It can be read here.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Heroism: An interesting variation. The author explicitly states that Sasha's and Marcy's parents are flawed but nice people here as they're sick of their usual portrayal as abusive parents.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: It's never established what sexual orientation Dr. Jan is in the show. Here, she's shown to be queer as she's in a relationship with Terri, who is non-binary.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Downplayed. While Mr. X is shown to go to extremes doing what he perceives as a threat to the USA in the show, here he's shown to be willing to kidnap the girls and uses amoral methods on them to get what he wants.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Mr. X's assistant Jenny loses their voice years ago, due to an incident.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In the show, Dr. Jan and Terri first meet up during the first portal test and are shown to be in friendly terms since then. Here, it's implied they met long ago and have entered a romantic relationship.
  • Afraid of Needles: Because of being experimented by Andrias, Sasha becomes very afraid of needles.
  • Ascended Extra: Parasia, Mr. X, Jenny, Dr. Jan, the I.T. Gals, Terri and Sasha and Marcy's parents are all given prominent roles in the story.
  • Asshole Victim: King Andrias is choked into near unconsciousness and has his throat ripped out by his own father. Considering the terrible things he's done, it's hard to feel sorry for him.
  • Broken Faceplate: During their fight, Mrs. Waybright strikes Darcy's helmet so hard a chunk falls off, leaving Marcy's dulled eye exposed.
  • Cats Hate Water: Played for Drama. As Anne has developed feline behaviors, she refuses to take a bath in one chapter and requires her mother to bathe her.
  • Central Theme: Recovery of trauma. The girls has been through the process of healing, yet it's not linear. It bounces front and back and they require lot of effort to recover from their abuse.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Mr. X to King Andrias. King Andrias has real evil intentions of using the girls for their Calamity powers and as his breeding pets. Mr. X is an amoral federal agent who stops at nothing to protect what he perceives as best for the USA. Unlike King Andrias though, Mr. X manages to pull a Heel–Face Turn after realizing how wrong he is.
  • Cooldown Hug: The I.T. Gals and Terri give one to the girls when Oum was severely injured during the first portal test.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Years prior to Enemies, Jenny was attacked and almost died. Mr. X saved their life but the incident still cost Jenny their voice.
  • Doorstopper: The fic currently sits at 600k words and is still growing.
  • Forced to Watch: The girls' parents watch the tapes Andrias recorded to learn their daughters' experiences, they don't react well when they see how he torments their daughter.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After robot Andrias' attack left his back broken and himself crippled, he apologized to Jenny for his actions and asked them to protect the girls, knowing he won't be forgiven.
  • Horrifying the Horror: In the mindscape of the Core, the normally ruthless and unflinching King Andrias is immediately cowed into submission by Aldrich after the former refused to leave after being ordered to.
  • It's All My Fault:
    • Marcy still blames herself for what her friends went through. No one gives her a hard time over it and try to reassure her. Despite their efforts, Marcy still holds onto the guilt. This is shown explicitly when she says she deserves to be possessed by the Core instead of Lady Olivia.
    • Oum not only blames herself when the girls discovered the parents are watching their torment tapes, but the girls' disappearance and their subsequent capture by Mr.X
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Anne, Sasha and Marcy become this to one another due to being the only comfort during their abuse at Andrias' hand.
  • Mama Bear:
    • Oum is fiercely protective of the girls, especially after finding out what happened to them in Amphibia. The moment she realizes they were all sexually assaulted, she becomes determined to find the culprit and make him pay.
    • Jenny becomes this for the girls during the government arc. They aren't afraid to slug Mr. X if they spot him mistreating the girls.
    • When Darcy tries to kidnap Sasha, Mrs. Waybright comes rushing in with a baseball bat.
  • Man Bites Man: All three of the girls have their moments due to their poor treatment in Amphibia.
    • In chapter 53, a furious Anne jumps Mr. X and rips off his finger.
    • In chapter 61, Sasha bites Mr. X's shoulder while Marcy bites one of Mr. X's men.
  • Mental Health Recovery Arc: The whole story is basically about how the girls recover from their abuse at King Andrias's hand.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Mr. X is genuinely mortified when he realizes he targeted Jenny's throat scar during their fight. He immediately stops fighting Jenny and tries to apologize.
  • Neverending Terror: Even after the girls escape from Andrias for months, they still have intensive trauma about many things related to their past abuse.
  • Offing the Offspring: After being beaten into submission by his own prisoners, King Andrias is strangled to death by Aldrich.
  • Oh, Crap!: In one chapter during the government arc, Mr. X goes into Anne's room to check on her. He doesn't see her anywhere and he tries to find her. He soon hears growling and sees a Calamity Anne on the ceiling and he immediately realizes he's screwed. Anne pounces him a moment later.
  • Once More, with Clarity: The first time the girls have Three-Way Sex is shown explicitly and descriptively in the tape when the parents watch it.
  • Past Experience Nightmare:
    • Sasha has nightmares about being extensively abused by King Andrias in the past months.
    • In chapter 70, Anne had a nightmare about her first night in Amphibia when she was chased by hunters and got her voice taken.
  • Parents as People: The Wus and the Waybrights do genuinely love their daughters, but the story doesn't shy away from making it clear they're still human and still flawed. The Waybrights were far too eager to take Sasha home with them right away despite her being in a bad mental state and the Wus feel guilt for dumping the new job situation on Marcy with so little time to prepare.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Aldrich is less hostile towards Marcy and even gives her painkillers when she needed it, but it's not out of the kindness of his heart. He just doesn't believe always resorting to violence is the best way to manipulate people into doing things they normally wouldn't do.
  • Repressed Memories: The time Andrias forces the girls to have sex consciously without using pheromones and then act it upon himself, is too much for them to handle that they simply forget about it. When they see the clip displaying on their torment tapes the parents are watching, the resurfaced memory is enough to trigger their powers and lead to their panic attacks.
  • Safe Under Blankets: After learning that the parents are watching their torment tapes, the girls hide under the blanket when Oum comes into the room next morning.
  • Scars Are Forever: Despite some time has passed since the girls escaped, they still bear scars and marks over areas of their bodies. It's implied they're permanent and won't fade away by time.
  • Scrubbing Off the Trauma: After learning the parents have watched the girls' sex tape, Sasha hides behind the toilet, claiming she is made filthy by King Andrias.
  • Synchronization: Due to circumstances being different than in canon, Marcy is able to interact with Darcy directly. However they are still linked, so if Marcy tries to hurt Darcy, she will feel the effect. This also means Marcy feels every hit during Mrs. Waybright's fight with Darcy.
  • Stress-Induced Mental Voices:
    • Sasha had one of these stemmed from the suffering from Andrias.
    • In one chapter, Anne suffers from an Andrias hallucination thanks to Mr. X.
    • Marcy also has one when she remembers the crowd in the museum came to her and poked around her prosthetics.
  • Trauma Button:
    • Sasha has an intense fear of the word "Sunshine", the name Andrias has used on her, to the point where she has a panic attack every time she hears the word.
    • Sasha hates having her face touched, especially her jaws. It's very telling of how much she trusts Oum when she allows the woman to touch her there without freaking out. Her neck is another trauma spot for her, with even Oum having some issue touching the area without upsetting her.
    • In one chapter, Sasha has a panic attack when she sees her long blonde hair in the mirror, as King Andrias was obsessed with her hair. Oum finds out and helps her cut her hair short. Later, she and Sasha's mother help her dye her hair pink.
    • Throughout the story, Sasha has developed severe hydrophobia, where she has trouble seeing a large amount of water due to her experiences of Andrias drowning her.
    • It's revealed that Anne only allows people she trusts to touch her neck scar, which took her voice and nearly got her killed.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Deconstructed. The trio's treatment during their six-month stay in Amphibia is nothing but full of hurt and depress. By the time the girls returned to Earth, they had severely poor mental state and scared of anything that triggers their trauma.
  • The Voiceless: Both Anne and Jenny lost their voices to a throat injury.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Aldrich threatens to do this to King Andrias the moment he is given any reason to think his son will fail again.
    • In chapter 111, Aldrich makes good on that promise.
  • You Monster!:
    • Nearly everyone in this story call King Andrias a monster for his horrible abuse to the girls.
    • At one instance, Oum calls Mr. X this.
