Alternete Events is a DC Multiverse crossover fanfic series by Cer1992 (Ao3 Link). The basic premise revolves around the idea that, in The Flash Season 2 Episode 18, Barry Allen accidentally travels to the universe of the show Smallville instead of Supergirl while using the Tachyon prototype. Starts with the fic Alternate Events: When Heroes and Universes Collide, which covers the aforementioned premise, as well as a variation of the Arrowverse's crossover event Invasion!, during which heroes from the Smallville universe travel to Earth-1 to aid in the battle with the Dominators. The sequels include Alternate Events 2: One Year Later, Alternate Events 3: Doppelganger Troubles and Other Threats, and Alternate Events 4: Multiversal Clashes, along with side stories A Summary of Pre-Finale Events (Alternate Events 4.5) and Green Arrow Body Swap: Alternate Events Tie-In. The final installment of the series is the Crisis on Infinite Earths-esque fic Alternate Events on Infinite Earths.

Although the series starts off as a simple crossover between Smallville and the Arrowverse, other DC TV shows and films such as the DC Extended Universe, DC Animated Universe, The Flash (1990 TV series), Richard Donner's Superman film series, Superman Returns, and many more eventually make appearances.

    Featured Universes
"Brave New Metropolis"
  • Earth-2515: Krypto the Superdog
  • Earth-3910: Teen Titans Go!
  • Earth-X: A world where the Nazis won World War II, incorporating elements of the Arrowverse and DC Extended Universe

This fic series contains examples of:

  • Actor Allusion:
  • Adaptational Heroism:
  • Adaptational Villainy: In One Year Later, it is mentioned that Dinah Drake was recruited into Prometheus' team instead of Team Arrow.
  • Always Someone Better: When the two Oliver Queens face off in a private contest, it's soon determined that Earth-21's Oliver is the better shot while Earth-1's Oliver is the superior hand-to-hand fighter.
  • Bald of Evil: Any version of Lex Luthor, of course.
  • Back from the Dead:
    • Laurel Lance of Earth-1 and Courtney Whitmore of Earth-21 get resurrected by Mar Novu/The Monitor, who tells them they are needed for "a Crisis that is imminent". Alternate Events on Infinite Earths reveals that Laurel and Courtney are the Paragons of Resurrection.
    • After the Multiverse is restored in the aftermath of the Crisis, a lot of the characters who were deceased in the original Multiverse are alive in the new Multiverse.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • In addition to Samantha Clayton like in canon, Felicity Smoak, Dinah Drake, Curtis Holt, and Rene Ramirez were killed in the explosion on Lian Yu during the events of Arrow Season 5's finale.
    • In Doppelganger Troubles and Other Threats, John Diggle is killed by Earth-X Slade Wilson/Deathstroke.
  • Demoted to Extra:
  • Dies Differently In The Adaptation: Instead of dying from Earth-2 Laurel Lance screaming in his ear with her sonic scream, Vincent Sobel aka Vigilante gets turned into a bloody, splattered mess by Clark Luthor flying through his body.
  • Friendly Rivalry:
  • Like Brother and Sister: When Earth-21 Oliver meets Thea Queen, he notes that while he doesn't have a biological sister of his own, his young partner Mia Dearden is essentially like a sister to him.
  • One-Steve Limit: The most common trope in the series due to the numerous interactions between heroes and their other selves.
    • Shortly after their meeting, Earth-1 Oliver Queen is referred to as 'Oliver', while Earth-21 Oliver Queen is called 'Ollie' to differentiate them. When their Earth-192 counterpart eventually appears, he is simply called 'Green Arrow'.
    • Whenever the two are involved in the same story arc, Kara Danvers of Earth-38 is called 'Kara D', while Kara Kent of Earth-21 is referred to as 'Kara K'. Their Earth-78 counterpart, Kara Zor-El/Linda Lee/Superwoman, is referred to as 'Linda' and Earth-192 Supergirl, when she eventually appears, is simply called 'Supergirl'.
    • After her resurrection, Earth-1 Laurel Lance is called 'Laurel-One', while her Earth-2 doppelganger is called 'Laurel-Two'. Once the latter returns to her Earth, both Laurels, since they no longer share scenes together, are referred to by their first name.
    • A non-Multiversal example is the Earth-21 versions of John Jones (Martian Manhunter) and John Stewart (Green Lantern). They are commonly referred to by their last names, making it already easy to distinguish them from other characters named John and their own counterparts.
  • Put on a Bus:
  • Redemption Rejection: Clark Luthor/Ultraman of "Earth-2" (officially known as Earth-64) ultimately decided that attempting to redeem himself was too much work and it was easier just to go back to being a villain, assembling a team called the Crime Syndicate until he is finally defeated in a rematch with his counterpart and banished to the Phantom Zone of Earth-96.
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
  • Your Magic's No Good Here: An interesting twist related to this in regards to the Phantom Zone crystal of Earth-21; if used out of its Earth of origin, it does not send the target to the Phantom Zone, but instead displaces them to a random alternate Earth.
