In General:

  • The fanbase refers to the Fredbear Plush nigh-exclusively as *Psychic Friend Fredbear, a name popularized by Game Theory.
  • "Phone Guy" for the previous security guard who sends you messages at the beginning of the night. His counterpart in the third game is nicknamed "Phone Dude".
  • "4/20 Mode", shorthand for "all four AIs set to level 20" during Custom Night.
  • "Golden Freddy", the yellow version of Freddy that may or may not be a hallucination, is never actually called such in anything official. This was ascended in the sequel, however.
  • "Duck" or "Duck-Duck" for Chica, because she looks a bit like a duck, despite actually being a chicken.
  • Although this wasn't used until later in the series by fans, the "Fazbear Four" is a fairly popular name to refer to Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy and their respective counterparts.
  • Fans tend to call the Murderer (Real name William Afton) some variation of the name "Purple Guy", as his minigame sprite is almost solid purple. This ultimately turns out to be a nickname that he shares with his son... for similar reasons. He also has the alternate nickname "The Man Behind the Slaughter", thanks to the popularity of The Living Tombstone's Filk Song "It's Been So Long".

Five Nights at Freddy's 2:

  • "Bon-Bon" for Toy Bonnie, "Foxen" for Mangle.
  • Rebornica and various other fans have taken to calling BB "Billy".
  • The Animatronic Endoskeleton that randomly wanders around sometimes has some fans calling it "Animatronic?".
  • Some have taken to calling the Marionette "Jack," "Marion" or "Mark".
    • "Marionette" itself is never indicated to be its name in anything canon, and the third game and FNAF World simply call it "Puppet".
  • "Purple Guy" for the... um... purple guy that appeared in the mini games.
    • Some people are also calling him "Vincent" due to Rebornica's AU.

Five Nights at Freddy's 3:

  • Before the game officially revealed the name as "Springtrap", fans referred to the new animatronic as "Golden Bonnie", "Salvage," "Frankenbonnie", and "Mr. Twitchy".
  • Phone Dude, Phone Bro, and Phone Bruh seem to be popular titles for the new guy on the phone, due to his accent.
  • The game itself is sometimes referred to as "Six Nights At Springtrap's", as Freddy does not make a physical appearance in the game. He has a phantom counterpart present, but is still overshadowed by Springtrap.

Five Nights at Freddy's 4:

  • Fans have referred to the animatronic shown in the first teaser image as Nightmare/Nightmare Freddy, Abomination, Amalgam, Giygas Freddy, Nightbear, and Fredbear. Which becomes Hilarious in Hindsight/Harsher in Hindsight when it turns out that the name of the fifth animatronic shown in the teasers is Fredbear.
  • "Psychic Friend Fredbear" for the Fredbear Plush.
  • After all the animatronics in the "Thank You" image started to be get slowly replaced by insanely adorable, Super-Deformed versions of them, fans began to label them as "Kawaii Animatronics". After it was revealed they would be part of a RPG spinoff, they were referred to as "Adventure animatronics".
  • The Miniature Freddies have gone from Fredletts, Freddles, and Mini Freddies. FNAF World appears to have cemented it as Freddles.
  • The child you play as never had his name revealed in the game, so he was dubbed by fans as Bite Victim, given his role in the story.
    • Though usually fans refer to him as "The Crying Child" due to, well, him crying a lot.
    • Said incident is also referred to as "the Bite of '83", as it is established that the game did not take place in 1987, so this is not the other more infamous bite.

Five Nights at Freddy's World:

  • The cartoony animatronics in the game are called either Toon Animatronics, Chibi Animatronics, Kawaii Animatronics or World Animatronics. Scott himself prefers calling them the Adventure Animatronics.
  • When it was announced that the game is going to be revamped to replace the 8-Bit overworld, fans called the original version "FNaF World 1.0" while the new version is called "FNaF World 2.0" to differentiate it. This was apparently dropped when the freeware version of game was called "Update 1", and the new one would be Update 2.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location:

  • Though it's never said in the game itself (and before it was made official in the games), Mr. Afton was commonly referred to by his name from the book, William Afton.
  • Before the Custom Night update named him Yenndo, the rarely-appearing Funtime Freddy endoskeleton was often referred to as either Funtime Fredbear or Funtime Golden Freddy due to his golden eyes and resemblance to Funtime Freddy. Some even called it the Bear Endoskeleton.

Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator:

  • Before her official name was revealed as "Scrap Baby", fans called Baby's new appearance "Withered Baby", "Ejected Baby", "Freak Baby", or "Freakshow Baby" following the teaser in The Freddy Files.
  • Several people like to call the small Funtime Freddy "Funsize Freddy", even after Scott confirmed its name to be Helpy.
  • Springtrap/William Afton's redesign in this game is called "Scraptrap" or "Springscrap", much like Scrap Baby. Became Ascended Fanon in that the former name got picked up by Scott himself in the development of Ultimate Custom Night.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach:

  • Prior to official merch referring to her as Vanessa, the blonde security guard was generally called names like "Security Girl" or "Protect Girl."
  • The sun/moon animatronic was referred to by a variety of names throughout pre-release, most notably "Moondrop" for the moon mode and "Sunnydrop", "Sundrop", and "Sunrise" for the sun variant. An interview with Steelwool officially revealed that canonically it's simply referred to as "the Daycare Attendant", and subtitles indicate that the two forms are simply known as "Sun" and "Moon" and with that, that "Sunnydrop" and "Moondrop" as seen on posters are the names of their candy brands rather than of the character(s).
  • Due to his characterization and almost the entire fandom falling in love with him, many fans have referred to Glamrock Freddy as "Himbo Freddy", "Daddy", "Father Figure", "Papa Bear", and so much more.
  • William Afton/Burntrap has garnered the nicknames "Peepaw Willy" and "Peepaw Afton" by some fans due to his age, decrepit appearance, and to some, a desperate or underwhelming role in the game's narrative, making him seem like a pathetic granddad.
  • After Dawko referred to the wet floor sign bots found throughout the Pizzaplex as "Pat Pats" during his playthrough, fans were quick to embrace said nickname as well.
  • Before her name was revealed as "Cassie", the protagonist of the upcoming Ruin DLC was dubbed "Ruin Girl" by fans.
  • The animatronics as they appear in Ruin have been called "the Ruined Animatronics" by fans.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Fazbear Frights:

  • Eleanor is often jokingly called "Giraffe Baby" due to being, well, a version of Baby with a long neck.
  • When first revealed Volume 6, the Mechanical Abomination that William Afton creates as his vessel at the end of Epilogue 6 lacked an official name; as such, the fandom referred to it using a number of these. The most common one, and the one previously used in the character page here, is "the Miscreation", based on a particularly memorable description from the scene in question; however, other fans referred to it by names such as "Stitchtrap" and "Aftonwraith" to reference its connection to the Stitchwraith. In a particular bit of irony, some even took to referring to it as "Salvage", since the name actually fit quite a bit better than it did when the fandom first used it to refer to Springtrap. Volume 7 would eventually give it the name "Afton's Amalgamation".
