A NaNoWriMo novel that is yet to be writtenWe Are Champions is a fantasy young adult book where the world every 150 years has a short war/battle where people chosen by the gods fight it out to figure out what god is in charge and where all the gods will stand on the power scale for the next 150 years, the god of governance, Eius. Has won this battle four times in a row and people are starting to forget what it was like to have any other gods rule but change is in the wind when the goddess of the ostracized gains two strong champions, and a god long ago forgotten has been remembered.
Tropes:
- Action Girl: Pick any of the woman champions but especially Ikuun, who worked as a hunter and trapper since she was 15. And Phoebe who has been a champion four times over and is still a warrior to be wary of in a fight even thought she is beyond 700 years old and could die of old age at any time.
- Amazonian Beauty: Ikuun and Phyrra are both the strongest of their groups and are also rather beautiful as long as you don't mind a bit of grim from being full time fighters
- Abusive Parents: Ilyna had these due to being born a dark elf her parents thought of her as some sort of cursed child and locked her away for her childhood till they eventically got sick of her so sent her to a house near a lake with only a maid to take care of her and after she showed signs of having abyssal magic her parents ordered the maid to drown her in the lake, yikes
- Badass Adorable: Ilyna is a case of this being the only member of her group anywhere near cute while also having powerful magic and being a highly skilled fighter
- Bad Powers, Good People: Conan and Triss both made pacts with a being from the abyss for their powers and their magic can often be harmful to others, along with themselves but nether of them are flat out evil, though they are also the least moral of their group
- Broken Bird: Conan is male version of this trope
- The Champion: All of the champions are this for their god, as per the name
- Dark and Troubled Past: Most of the champions have this but the main group are hit really hard by this with Ikuun having a
- Dark Is Not Evil: Almost anybody with a dark power or to do with the abyss tend to be out to do the right thing, or at least are helpful. Most people though believe dark is evil leaving the dark elfs often mistreated
- Deadpan Snarker: Triss
- Fantastic Racism: Dark elfs are subject to this
- Fire-Forged Friends: The main group is this as if it weren't for all they go through together they'd for most part probably hate each other
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Triss and Conan tend to be this, but more so Triss
- Parental Abandonment: Ikuun's father ran off after his wife died leaving Ikuun under the care of her grandmother, and Ilyna's parents sent her away from home and she never saw them again
- Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: The main group is this, Ikuun is a wanderer with no place to call home and past full of loss, Triss is a gun for hire with a lying streak and parental issues, Conan is a man with a Dark and Troubled Past that he refuses to talk about, and Ilyna is basically a 19 year old who was taken care of by a god for a lot of her life
- Royals Who Actually Do Something: Prince Cyrus is one of the champions for Euis and can be seen fighting sevral time throughout the book. Also some of his ancestors were champions for Euis as it is tradition for the crowned prince to be a champion for his god
- Watching Troy Burn: Ikuun in her backstory had to see her town get burned down, she still has a fear of fire from it
