"I only ever had one or two days' work on those very funny films. Going into a long-running team show is a frightening experience and so it was that each time I was lucky enough to be invited to play in a Carry On, I always arrived at the studio with a certain amount of trepidation."

Victor Jack Maddern, (16 March 1928 — 22 June 1993), was a British actor.

He trained at the RADA after his time serving in World War II. His first screen appearance came in Seven Days to Noon as a soldier tasked to shoot a scientist.

For the rest of his career, Maddern was a familiar face in films and on TV. He was often Typecast as military men, most frequently as a sergeant.

On the side he ran a script printing business and opened a school for public speaking in 1991.

He died of a brain tumour at the age of 65.
