The Geek Initiative is a website that focuses on "female characters in comic books, literature, video games, and LARPs (live action role playing games) as well as the people who create and play them." Founded in 2013 after co-moderating an online The Avengers role playing group. While they focus on Feminism, each of their member's opinions are extremely multi-faceted on a number of issues, including liking and/or disliking Feminist Frequency.
TGI is home to The Geek Initiative Digital Larps. Digital larps involve all components of in-person larp except the physicality, and rely audio and video as primary means of communication. Because of the nature of the medium, digital larps tend to be theatre-style, focusing on social and political issues and interactions.
The Geek Initiative as a whole is an example of:
- Proud to Be a Geek: Duh.
- Even Nerds Have Standards: Inverted. They're running larps over the computer, they know it's a significant tier of nerd, and they're owning it.
- Historical Domain Character: Hellfire and Happiness was a digital larp where characters were invited to a Weekend in the Country by the Honorable Lord Byron himself.
Potential powers:
Both their about and mission statement pages proclaim, an "intersectional approach" to an "inclusive feminist standpoint". Supporting opinions "from everyone who supports equality."- Maybe these things: Action Girl, Girl Next Door, Magical Girl Warrior, Manic Pixie Dream Girl, and maybe even Squirrel Girl, who knows. But maybe some of these things, sometimes.
- Not these things: Always Female, Females Are More Innocent, Female Misogynist, Neutral Female, and hopefully not Perky Female Minion. But, again, who knows. Just Think Nothing of It.
