Robert Golden Armstrong Jr. (April 7, 1917 – July 27, 2012) was an American actor and playwright. Originally from a small town just outside Birmingham, Alabama, he was recognizable for his Southern accent and distinctive weathered features.

Armstrong was part of director Sam Peckinpah’s Production Posse, appearing in Peckinpah films such as Ride the High Country, The Ballad of Cable Hogue, and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. He was also Gen. Phillips in the original Predator. He was lifelong friends with Andy Griffith, having attended the University of North Carolina with him, and appeared on an episode of The Andy Griffith Show.

Married three times—to Ann Neale, Susan M. Guthrie, and Mary Craven—Armstrong had four children. He died of natural causes on July 27, 2012.

Not to be confused with Robert Armstrong, the actor best known for his role as Carl Denham in King Kong (1933).
