"I've done everything in this business from acting and singing to tap dancing, opera and one-man shows. People can't understand why I still want to work at my age and I tell them it's not work. I love it."

Bill Maynard, born Walter Frederick George Williams, (8 October 1928 — 30 March 2018), was a British actor best known for starring in Oh No It's Selwyn Froggitt and Heartbeat.

He began his career as a variety performer in The '50s, but didn't start acting until 1971 in the TV play Paper Roses. From 1976 to 1978, he played the titular character in the sitcom Oh No It's Selwyn Froggitt.

In The '70s, he was a frequent face in British films, notably appearing in five Carry On films (he also appeared in a sixth, but was cut for time) and starred as Robin Askwith's father in the Confessions of a... Series.

In The '90s, he took a starring role in Heartbeat as Claude Jeremiah Greengrass until 2000, when a series of strokes forced him to retire.

He died in hospital at the age of 89 after a fall had broken his hip.
