They've been pushed to the brink. It's time to push back.
"We mutants never really defeated death. We danced like children at a party we pretended would never end. And now we hear the chimes at midnight."
Emma Frost, Marvel's Voices #97

Fall of the House of X is a 2024 X-Men Bat Family Crossover and part of the Grand Finale of the X-Men: The Krakoan Age saga.

During Fall of X, the anti-mutant faction Orchis has kept a good standing with the governments of Earth despite the actions of the remaining mutants on Earth and their allies. But now, the mutants are ready to fight back in kind. With the aid of allies like Tony Stark, they seek to take revenge for Orchis' actions and avenge the fallen mutants. If they fail, the mutants are only the beginning. In this final battle, who will come out on top?

Fall of the House of X contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Anachronic Order: Mostly averted - almost all events take place in the order in which they are published. The exception of the Wolverine, which explicitly takes place prior to literally everything else in the storyline.
  • Batman Gambit: Tony takes Feilong and the Stark Sentinels out of the equation by conning him, via Firestar, into thinking an invasion fleet from Arrako was landing in the Australian outback before he realizes it's not and he flies into a magnificent panic to confront Tony and his brand new Sentinel Buster armor.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: The main threats for the grand finale are mutant-hunting organization Orchis and the Enigma/Sinister Dominion. This is reflected in the main titles: Orchis and the AI are fought over in X-Men and Fall of the House of X, while the Enigma Dominion concerns Xavier in Rise of the Powers of X and X-Men Forever.
  • Continuity Overlap: Some of the mini-series are happening concurrently with each other, like Dead X-Men, Rise of the Powers of X and Fall of the House of X.
  • Crisis Crossover: The conflict between Orchis and the Krakoan mutants/X-Men expands to involve Iron Man and the Avengers.
  • Gambit Pileup: Everyone's plans (Orchis's, the X-Men's, Xavier's, Enigma's) start to come into fruition, even clashing against each other:
    • The multiple plans people are developing to oppose Orchis begin to come into conflict; as an example, Wolverine, Colossus and Nightcrawler had planned to rescue Cyclops from his trial with aid of Rasputin IV, but she was called away to assist Xavier with another plan.
    • Xavier has his own team of X-Men to act against Enigma.
    • The Dominion Enigma is coming to ensure it becomes a reality, opposing Xavier's plan.
    • As shown in the mini-series, the Sinister clones, especially Stasis and Orbis Stellaris, are working only for themselves in order to reach Ascension; the Machines (Nimrod and Omega Sentinel) have their secret plans which are against Orchis's.
  • Grand Finale: The final chapter to the Krakoan Age of X-Men stories.
  • Mêlée à Trois: This final battle is pit between our heroes, those living on Arrako and Orchis.
  • Recycled Title: The Fall of the House of X was used as a title for a one-off X-Men Unlimited (2021) story, which also featured Krakoa, but is otherwise unrelated.
  • Red Shirt Army: Lampshaded by most of Orchis geared with red combat suits and helmets. Every confrontation against the heroes has every Orchis soldiers and personnel present massacred without quarter.
  • Rule of Three: Xavier had three plans to stop the Enigma Dominion:
    • Jump into specific points in the timeline to stop his ascension.
    • Go back in time and talk to Moira before her powers emerge in her tenth life. Xavier planned to kill her at this time.
    • Summon the Phoenix.
  • Superman Stays Out of Gotham: Finally averted with the Avengers, who'd been more or less staying out of the Orchis-Mutant conflict up to this point (albeit by Tony Stark's request while he and Emma Frost hammered out their game plan and coordinated with all the disparate Mutant teams). Now that all of Tony and Emma's ducks are in a row, the Avengers have finally been given the green light to openly engage Orchis.
  • This Means War!: The event pits Marvel's great heroes, led by the X-Men, against Orchis and their fascist organization.
