Player characters

    Jack

Art by Bluethorn.

Played by: DrNoPuma
A hyena who works as an apprentice to a local clockmaker.
  • Animal Jingoism: Inverted. Despite lions and hyenas normally being seen as enemies, Jack the hyena gets along great with Anton, a lion.
  • The Apprentice: Jack is the apprentice of Anton, who is teaching him to be a clockmaker.
  • Author Appeal: Many aspects of Jack were based on things his player loves. He's based on one of his player's most favorite video game characters (see Expy), he was made a hyena because his player finds hyenas cute, and he's skilled with clockworks because his player loves the aesthetics of clocks.
  • Expy: Jack was partially inspired by Tails, as a kind-hearted, somewhat introverted fluffy mammal who's good with machines.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Jack specializes in clockworks and other mechanical objects. Justified because he is the apprentice of a master clockmaker.
  • Heinous Hyena: Averted. Jack is pure-hearted and heroic, unlike most fictional hyenas.

    Peter

Played by: Bluethorn
An armadillo and one of the main characters who help the townspeople who have job requests.
  • Expy: Some aspects of his appearance (the bandanna and gloves) were inspired by another armadillo character, Dillon.
  • Natural Weapon: He's a melee fighter who uses his own claws as weapons.
  • Red Is Heroic: Is one of the main heroes and wears a red bandanna.
  • Shell Backpack: As shown here, his player's drawing of him shows him wearing a shirt, but with the shell on his back exposed.

Non-player characters

    Professor Diggs

Art by Bluethorn.

Played by: Bluethorn
A gopher who is an archaeologist and professor at the local university. He hires the heroes for their first job, as he wants to investigate some ruins in the forest near town.
  • Adventurer Archaeologist: He's an archaeologist and a university professor, but doesn't hesitate to accompany the group to explore the ruins during their first job.
  • Expy: His personality and appearance were inspired by Professor Frankly, another archaeologist who assists the main characters throughout the story.
  • Punny Name: A play on "digs", referencing both his career as an archaeologist and the fact that he is a gopher.

    Gregory

Art by Bluethorn.

Played by: Bluethorn
A wolf who the group encounters in the forest ruins. Professor Diggs recognizes him as one of his former students.
  • A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil: He used to be one of Professor Diggs' students, but is now working against the protagonists and attacks them in the ruins to try and steal the crystal they just found.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He speaks rather politely upon first encountering the group, but they notice from the start that his intentions aren't good.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: Wears a black mask, and is ruthless towards the protagonists and Professor Diggs in his first appearance.
  • Savage Wolves: He's the first wolf to appear in the thread and the first villain proper.

    Rena Porter

Art by Bluethorn.

Played by: Bluethorn
A fox who works as a reporter for the local newspaper. She is the one who hires the protagonists for their second job, which is to visit the island of Crystal Shores to search for a rare bird that has allegedly been seen for the first time in decades.
  • Camera Fiend: She is always carrying her camera and taking pictures of just about anything that she finds interesting, even snapping some photos of a sleeping giant salamander while the rest of the group was trying to figure out how to move past it without waking it.
  • Genki Girl: She's rather enthusiastic, often moving ahead of the group and taking pictures of just about everything.
  • Intrepid Reporter: In order to find a scoop, she is determined to to visit Crystal Shores personally, despite the risks of an uninhabited island that might be home to monsters.
  • Punny Name: A double pun: her name is a play on "reporter", and "rena" also resembles "renard", the French word for "fox".

    Anton Goldheart
Played by: DrNoPuma

Jack's master, an elderly lion who works as a clockmaker.

  • Animal Jingoism: Inverted. Despite lions and hyenas normally being seen as enemies, Anton the lion gets along great with Jack, a hyena.
  • Big Fun: Downplayed. While he's not exactly boisterous or energetic, he's described as "overweight" and is definitely kind and fatherly.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He's the best in the town when it comes to clockworks and other mechanical objects.
  • King of Beasts: Downplayed. Anton, a lion, is not royalty or any kind of politician. However, he is Jack's father figure and seems to be very well-respected in the town.

    Gunther

Played by: DrNoPuma
An elephant seal who runs a boat rental shop. Not many people visit his shop due to fear of the monsters, so Gunther spends most of his time setting traps to defend himself.

  • Monstrous Seal: Subverted. Gunther is an elephant seal, and he uses traps and weapons. However, he only uses these to defend himself from the evil monsters, and he would never hurt another animal with them, as shown when he saves Jack from stepping on one of his bear traps.
  • Properly Paranoid: The monsters in this world are very dangerous, so you can't blame Gunther for keeping bear traps and a harpoon just in case.

    Kenny and Katie
Played by: Bluethorn
A pair of reporters who interview the main characters following the incident at the university on the second day.

    Roger Greentail

Art by Bluethorn.
Played by: Bluethorn
An old friend of Professor Diggs from his college years. When Roger's son Ricky mysteriously goes missing after the Crystal Shores arc, the heroes agree to help look for him.
