    Melvin and Eleanor

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melvinandeleanorpuma1.png
Art by DrNoPuma

A Frankenstein's monster-esque mishmash of an anthropomorphic rat and Sphynx cat. Melvin and Eleanor were once separate creatures until they died through unknown causes, and were brought back by Dr. Nadelstein. These are alternate versions of Melvin from We Are All Pirates' Revenge and Eleanor from The Great TV Tropes Road Trip.

Played by: DrNoPuma
Species: Rat and cat, respectively

  • Anthropomorphic Shift: In her original appearance, Eleanor was a Talking Animal cat. In this version, she was a Funny Animal even before her death. This was done to avoid the unfortunate implications of a scientist experimenting on a realistic animal.
  • Cats Are Snarkers: Eleanor, a Sphynx cat, has a deadpan attitude and loves making jabs at Melvin.
  • Expy: There's a bit more to them than being based on Frankenstein's Monster:
    • They are heavily inspired by Oogie Boogie, especially Melvin with his rotund, greenish-grayish body. They also have a colony of bugs living inside them that they can summon at any time.
    • Although she doesn't physically resemble Maleficent, Eleanor's elegant but snarky personality is based on her. Imagine if Oogie Boogie and Maleficent were stuck together, but they were significantly nicer than in their original movies. That's basically Melvin and Eleanor.
  • Formerly Fit: They are very overweight, thanks to Melvin. Eleanor laments that she used to be skinny before being stitched together with him.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: A creature stitched together from the parts of a dead rat and cat, reanimated by science.
  • Gentle Giant: They are seven feet tall and very bulky. Melvin is as kind as can be, while Eleanor sometimes acts catty, but is otherwise harmless.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Melvin is described as having a voice like Danny Elfman, while Eleanor sounds like, and is named after, Eleanor Audley (specifically, her role as Maleficent.)
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Like in their original appearances, Melvin is emotional and childish, while Eleanor is much more restrained. This is the first time they have been paired together, though.
  • Transplant: These are two characters from previous TV Tropes roleplay threads (or at least, alternate versions of them.) This is made into a meta joke by having them become a Frankenstein's Monster, since their original threads could be considered "dead."
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: They don't always enjoy being stitched together, as Eleanor frequently makes snarky quips at Melvin's expense, and Melvin does the same, though less frequently. However, they still have a sibling-like bond.

    Patch

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/patch_3.png
Art by Bluethorn

An anthropomorphic crocodile from one of the swamps in Grimmloch, Patch came back to life as a skeleton after dying long ago, though his memories of the time when he was alive are a bit hazy. He wakes up in the dungeon at the beginning along with the others.

Played by: Bluethorn
Species: Skeletal crocodile

  • Dem Bones: He's a living crocodile skeleton.
  • Funny Animal: As a bipedal, talking crocodile, he was one of these when he was alive.
  • Friendly Skeleton: Downplayed. He's one of the good guys, but is a bit somber compared to most of the group.
  • Heart Light: Has a glowing ball of light in his chest that functions as the source of his life force.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Despite being a skeleton himself, he admits that he is creeped out by the fog-covered, cobweb-infested Spiderbite Swamp.
  • Glowing Eyelights of Undeath: His eye sockets have glowing lights visible inside them. They go out when he's unconscious or sleeping, like in the dungeon at the beginning of the story.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Averted; he's a crocodile and is one of the monsters in-universe, but is intent on helping the others with the quest.

    Jacoby
A fish monster from an unnamed swamp. Timid and fearful of humans (and just about everything else), Jacoby finally gained the courage to leave the swamp at the encouragement of his friend Elisa only to get wrapped up in the quest to find the bats along with everyone else.

Played by: kablammin45
Species: Fish monster

  • The Big Guy: Jacoby is very tall and very strong, contrasting greatly with his timid, neurotic personality.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: Jacoby's reaction to realizing how tightly he was gripping Melvin and Eleanor during a tense moment indicates that not even he realized how physically strong he actually was up until that moment.
  • Fish People: Jacoby hails from a swamp full of such creatures.
  • Gentle Giant: One of the group's biggest members, but arguably the most timid and least confrontational.
  • Lovable Coward: Jacoby seems constantly nervous and wary of anything new that the group comes across.
  • Shout-Out: His design is based on that of the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

NPCs

    King Royam
Played by: DrNoPuma
Species: Human

The king of Grimmloch. He has both humans and monsters in his employ, and he claims that he would like to help humans and monsters unite... but he wants the Crystal Bats first (for currently unknown reasons.)

    Dr. Nadelstein
Played by: DrNoPuma
Species: Human

A psychopathic scientist who brought Melvin and Eleanor back from the dead to make them his servants. They ran away, and he has been pursuing them ever since.

  • Bilingual Bonus: The "Nadel" in his surname is German for "needle" because he stitched Melvin and Eleanor together.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: He's like Victor Frankenstein, but without any hint of humanity or sympathy. He's just a psychopathic monster who likes to play around with life and death.
  • Dr. Fakenstein: His name ends with "stein" to emphasize his similarities to Victor Frankenstein.
  • The Dreaded: Melvin and Eleanor are absolutely terrified because of his violent behavior and determination to track them down.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: He may be good at intimidating Melvin and Eleanor, but the moment a huge werewolf (Rosamund) snarls and threatens him, Nadelstein realizes it's time to get going.
  • Mad Doctor: He's a doctor/scientist who enjoys gruesome procedures and is very prideful of the fact that he brought two dead creatures back to life.
