     Cordell Walker

Cordell Walker

Portrayed by: Chuck Norris (main role), Billy Tolson (young; "Mustangs", "Till Death Do Us Part", "Rainbow Warrior", "Final Justice"), Justin Champan (young; "Lucas")
Dubbed by: Bernard Tiphaine (European French, first voice), Yves RĂ©nier (European French, second voice)

The main character of the show.

  • Badass Native: Half-Native American on his father's side.
  • Badges and Dog Tags: He used to be in the United States Marine Corps before becoming a Texas Ranger.
  • Blue Is Heroic: His wardrobe is about 80% denim.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Both his parents were killed by a trio of white supremacists when he was 12 years old, and in Season 4's "Final Justice", he would go after one of the men who did it and almost let him fall to his death.
  • Friend to All Children: Different episodes show Walker going out of his way to help kids out, whether they're involved in the main story or the B-plot. Hurting a child and letting Walker find out about it is a guaranteed one-way route to an ass-kicking.
  • Good Old Ways: Unlike Trivette, he doesn't really care for technology.
  • Technical Pacifist: Being a cop, he always tries to take the bad guys in alive, even if he has to beat the crap out of them first.

     James Trivette

James "Jimmy" Trivette

Portrayed by: Clarence Gilyard

Walker's partner and best friend.

  • Affectionate Nickname: "Go Long Trivette" during his time with the Dallas Cowboys.
  • Black and Nerdy: He generally likes modern technology more than Walker does.
  • Butt-Monkey: Any time comical hijinks happen in an episode, chances are Trivette will be the unlucky target.
  • Girl of the Week: A frequent victim of this trope. He later finds his future bride after helping her clear her father of a murder he didn't commit, and then marries her by the Grand Finale.
  • Meat Versus Veggies: A recurring source of conflict between him and Walker is the fact that Trivette doesn't eat meat, preferring fruit and vegetable shakes and overall non-meat diets instead. Walker never fails to poke fun at him over it.
Trivette: (on being invited to a steakhouse) How do you eat that stuff?
Walker: One bite at a time.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Underneath the suits and the nerdiness, Trivette is sporting a very well-developed bod (it helps that he used to be a football player before he became a cop). Hell, his very first scene in the series shows him clad in only swim trunks while he's exercising at the local pool.
  • Game-Breaking Injury: He used to play for the Dallas Cowboys, until a wrecked shoulder ended his career. That shoulder injury doesn't seem to affect his fighting ability, however.
  • Running Gag: Trivette makes a questionable financial call that comes back to bite him in the end of nearly every episode.

    Alex Cahill-Walker

Alexandra "Alex" Cahill-Walker

Portrayed by: Sheree J. Wilson

A graduate of Southern Methodist Law School, the Tarrant County Assistant District Attorney and Walker's love interest and eventual wife.

     Francis Gage

Francis Gage

Portrayed by: Judson Mills

A rookie Texas Ranger along with Sydney.

  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Revealed in Season 8's "Tall Cotton", he and his sister, Julie, lost both their parents when he was 8 years old and she was 10. They were both killed in a car accident due to icy roads while on their way home from a church social during the Christmas season. One of their aunts wanted to take them both in, but could only afford one sibling. Gage suggested that Julie go, but she said no, saying they must stick together no matter what. As such, they ended up being sent to a group home for foster children; it wasn't a pleasant experience for both of them, though Julie got to bear most of the brunt of it.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": While many police procedurals involve last-name bases, Gage prefers to be called by his surname rather than his first name. Usually, his sister, Julie (who only appeared in Season 8's "Tall Cotton"), calls him by his first name. Although, this is typical of male characters usually being called by their last names: Walker, Trivette, etc.

     Sydney Cooke

Sydney Cooke

Portrayed by: Nia Peeples

A rookie Texas Ranger along with Gage.

  • Action Girl: Though appearing later in the series along with Gage, the only female Ranger of the main cast. She hits exactly as hard as her heavier-built male counterparts.

     C.D. Parker

    Uncle Ray Firewalker

Raymond Firewalker

Portrayed by:
