The strip's title character, a dim-witted great white shark who loves to eat.
- Big Eater: Oh yes.

- Papa Wolf: The strip where he first meets Clayton has him discovering the baby sea turtle crawling out of the sand. Then a nearby seagull eats him. To which Fillmore shouts "NOOOOOOOOO!" and strangles the seagull, causing Clayton to come flying out.
- Trademark Favorite Food: He loves eating jellyfish.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: One strip reveals that he's afraid of clowns, but in another storyline where the circus comes to town he's fine around the clownfish.
Hawthorne
A greedy, short-tempered hermit crab who constantly comes up with get-rich-quick schemes. Obviously, he's a good crab deep down.
- Casanova Wannabe: He's no better at getting women than Fillmore is.
- The Friend Nobody Likes: Fillmore in particular can barely stand him much of the time.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: It's easy to see why he and the equally-quite hot-tempered Megan don't get along.
- Honorary Uncle: To Sherman and Megan's son Herman.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's rude and self-centered, but when the chips are down, he is always there for Sherman.
- Naked People Are Funny: Runs around naked a lot.
- Penny-Pinching Crab: Greedy? Check. Unethical? Check. Constantly comes up with get-rick-quick schemes that usually backfire on him? Check.

Megan
Sherman's bossy control-freak of a wife.
- Control Freak
- Dirty Coward: When she discovers that Captain Quigley is pursuing Sherman again, she kicks him out of the house until Quigley gives up.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Oh yeah.
- Hypocrite: She gets bent out-of-shape when Sherman uses his hula dancing skills to tell a story about how much he hates Megan's mother... but she's totally fine with using her hula dance to tell a story about SHERMAN'S problems.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- What Does He See In Her?: One wonders what Sherman sees in her, considering how overbearing and bossy she can be. Granted, it's not like Sherman doesn't have his flaws, but compared to Megan...
