Human Characters

    Elliot Hong
An aspiring musician who keeps an upbeat attitude despite attracting disaster.
  • Amicable Exes: Danny meets two of them at one of Elliot's shows. They're weird, but nice.
  • Ascended Fanboy: After coming back to life he winds up brushing shoulders with the Vindicators. He also finds out his new boyfriend is the son of his childhood idol, the previous Redshift, and brother of the current Redshift.
    • Due to a shortage of supers and his newfound powers, he's even opened up the possibility of officially becoming the current Red Shift's sidekick.
  • Came Back Strong: His human body gains some significant muscle mass when he comes back to life. On top of that, he gets an alternate zombie-cat form which is even stronger.
  • Came Back Wrong: He starts turning into his cat-form uncontrollably after being brought back to life. He visits the Witchmother and gets it stabilized, though.
  • Every Scar Has a Story: He's got a number of them, and they all have some story behind them. They all disappear when he starts changing the morning after his resurrection.
  • Evil Twin: Because his brother is so straight-laced, Elliot was often seen by classmates and even his parents as this, which contributed to his suicidal tendencies in high school. Fortunately his brother knows better.
  • Mushroom Samba: After slipping and falling onto a container full of Sharp Zero Elliot starts hallucinating cats, flowers, and characters from Seinfeld with laser eyes.
  • Naked on Revival: Danny got rid of his clothes since they were soaked in chemicals. When Elliot wakes up he's wearing nothing but Danny's hoodie.
  • The Noodle Incident: He's responsible for several of these. Oft-referenced noodle incidents include his being banned from IHOP twice and the 'Ikea Incident'.
    • Eli was surprised the Ikea Incident only landed Elliot in jail for a year.
Eli: I'm guessing they don't sell those zebra paintings anymore, huh?
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: His dad's the District Attorney, which is the only reason he got off with such light punishments from his earlier escapades. Although considering how he talks about his past, he might not have wanted his dad's help.
  • Self-Harm: In high school. He managed to get through it with help from Marcus and inspiration from the original Redshift.

    Danny Becket
A university student who Elliot is sent to bring lunch to one day. He's also the son of the original Redshift, and used to operate as a Vindicator under the name Blueshift.
  • Career-Ending Injury: His time as Blueshift was ended after he was wounded by Steel Coyote. Unlike most examples, he could've conceivably kept being Blueshift but chose to retire the identity and help the Vindicators from the sidelines instead.
  • Every Scar Has a Story: Elliot seeing the scars on his back prompts him to open up about his past as Blueshift.
  • Gilligan Cut: About Madina playing matchmaker between him and Elliot.
Danny: Well, I wouldn't know about that.
Flashback Danny: Madina please set me up with someone- I'm so fucking desperate.
  • Invisibility: One of Danny's powers. It's unknown if Redshift also has this power.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: His father was the original Redshift.
  • Super-Speed: Another of his abilities.
  • Teleportation: He can teleport at long range.

    Madina Matar
Bassist for the Diamond Dogs. Also an intern at mission control for the Vindicators.
  • The Matchmaker: She sends Elliot to bring Danny lunch specifically to try to set them up.
  • Mission Control: She works with the Vindicators' mission control interns.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: There's no possible way she could've known that sending Elliot to bring Danny chicken would result in Elliot falling into chemicals, dying, getting resurrected, and manifesting superpowers.

    Kate Rodriguez
Drummer for the Diamond Dogs.
  • Comical Angry Face: When chewing out Elliot. Her tattoo also turns into an 'Elliot Sux' tattoo and her pupils become flaming skulls.

    "Ace"
Vocalist and front man of the Diamond Dogs, and old friend and crush of Elliot's.
  • Delinquent Hair: He has a messy green mohawk.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Basically any time he's playing with the band. At one point his tank top disappears between the panel of the band on stage and the panel of the band playing.
Elliot: The show was a lot of fun and Ace kept his shirt on for a grand total of 30 seconds.

    Marcus Hong
Elliot's comparatively put-together twin brother.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: They still love each other, but Marcus is very different from Elliot.
  • Twin Telepathy: It's unlikely this is anything more than a joke, but Marcus has a feeling his brother's doing something stupid at the same time that Elliot is hallucinating from Sharp Zero.

The Vindicators

    Tanis Jackson/Captain Stardust
Ex-space commander and intergalactic diplomat. Also Natia's fiance.
  • The Face: She handles diplomatic matters between Earth and alien species.
  • Flight: The first power she's seen using.

    Natia Collins/Galaxy
Physicist at NASA, general guidance counselor, and psychic Vindicator. Also Tanis' fiance
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: She's referred to as a personal guidance counselor to all her friends. In her first appearance, she puts Eli to sleep so he can actually relax, and it's implied she's done this before.
  • Psychic Powers: Her powers include telepathy and telekinesis. She can also put people to sleep.

    Zipper Z. Zed/Space Warp
A clone created to serve in the Regdin army. They love the way the Earth switches genres every few hundred years.

    Samira Tousi/Coldfront
A semi-pro skater and Vindicator with ice powers.
  • Ambiguous Gender Identity: She's a demigirl and has been thinking about not wearing her hijab in her civilian identity because she'd rather people not see her as a girl right off the bat.
  • An Ice Person: Her powers are based around ice.

    Isaiah Anderson/Grasshopper
A prosthetics engineer at Alexitech Institute. As Grasshopper, they use advanced leg prosthetics to enhance their jumping and movement.
  • Ambiguous Gender Identity: They're genderfluid, and announce current pronouns to the other Vindicators.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: They first show up in their civilian identity when Elliot's bringing lunch to Danny.
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: When Eli asks Isaiah and Kim how much they breached protocol after taking Elliot to meet the Witchmother.
Isaiah: Sorry, I can't hear you without my glasses.
  • Non-Powered Costumed Hero: Their abilities come from their prosthetic legs.
  • Pronoun Trouble: As they're genderfluid, Grasshopper's pronouns are subject to change. Since they haven't explained this to the press, some people think there are two Grasshoppers of different genders.
  • Swiss-Army Appendage: Aside from the movement enhancements, at least one leg can turn into a flamethrower. There are presumably other tricks as well.

    Kim Garcia/Deathwish
A Vindicator with no powers beyond their fighting capabilities and some gadgets.
  • Non-Powered Costumed Hero: They're just good at combat. They also use explosives, getting in close to plant them and then jumping back to avoid the explosion.
  • Pronoun Trouble: They haven't had time to explain what 'agender' means to the media, so they're often misgendered in tabloids.

    Alex Becket/Redshift
The second Redshift, inheriting the name from his father. Also Danny's brother.

    Elijah Rose
Head of mission control for the Vindicators. Also deals with much of the high-level bureaucracy.
  • Beleaguered Bureaucrat: On top of having to deal with all the paperwork, he's romantically involved with Grasshopper. It's implied he'd be a lot friendlier if he didn't have so much to worry about.
Bridgette: Being a head of mission control is the most stressful job on the planet, he's more sane than you think. Supers are crazy.
  • Mission Control: To add to his ridiculous list of responsibilities, he seems to manage the mission control room during missions.
  • Must Make Amends: He thinks Danny still blames him for his mauling at the hands of Steel Coyote, and wants to rebuild their trust.

Enemies

    Crank
A villain who can create energy flames.
  • Delinquent Hair: Has a messy white mohawk.
  • Hollywood Fire: He uses 'energy flames', which are green and smokeless. According to Redshift, it doesn't even burn, it just hurts in an annoying way.

    Dispatch
A villain with super-strength.

    Steel Coyote
A military-themed villain with enhanced musculature.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Blueshift was only experienced in recon missions. Steel Coyote wiped the floor with him and left him some pretty big scars to boot.

    ???????
The apparent superior of Crank and Dispatch. Their motives and capabilities are completely unknown, but they seem to know something about Sharp Zero.
  • Sharp Dressed Person: The only outfit they've been seen in is a business suit with a full-face helmet and gauntlets.

The Undead

    Witchmother
The apparent leader of the Undead guardians. She sets the rules for entering her domain and handles certain death-related matters. She had some sort of allegiance with the original Redshift.
  • Connected All Along: The reason Danny was able to enlist her help in bringing Elliot back to life is that his father was on good terms with her.
  • Necromancer: She brought Elliot back from the dead on Danny's behalf.

    Magda the Seer
An Undead guardian with fortunetelling abilities.
  • Tarot Troubles: She can use Tarot cards in the usually portrayed manner. She seems pretty surprised when she pulls out a wild card from Uno, though.

    Beezlebub the Gargoyle
A prince of Ouranos who lives with the Undead at the Witchmother's place.
  • Meaningful Name: Beezlebub is a prince of Ouranos with a name very similar to Beelzebub, who is a high-ranking demon in some Christian mythologies.
  • Not So Stoic: He had a complete lack of reaction to being teleporting onto a bridge in front of an eldritch horror, but dealing with Elliot eventually wears his patience thin.
  • The Stoic: Most of the time, anyway. His reactions are pretty understated, even when he's summoned from his shower to fight an eldritch horror with no warning. It's probably because doing stuff like that is his job.
Reapos: I will decimate you for your insolence!
Beezlebub: Well I'm gonna decimate you because you just suck overall. Also you're ugly.

    Greg the Demon
One of the four Undead guardians at the Witchmother's house.
  • Jerkass: When Beezlebub and Magda come to help Carmen, he only tags along because he's hungry. He spends the whole time criticizing everyone and everything.

Ouranos

    Kalrion
Elliot's Charon and the spirit of an ancient Greek soldier.
  • Foreign-Looking Font: His dialogue is in an all-caps medieval-looking type font.
  • The Mentor: As Elliot's Charon, he acts as this, explaining to him how the afterlife works. It's apparently a volunteer position.
  • Supernaturally-Validated Trans Person: After being brought back to Earth, his new human body is clearly masculine. He's surprised and delighted when he sees himself in the mirror for the first time.
