Main characters

    Mitsuha Yamano
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yamano_mitsuha.png
Voiced by: Rika Nagae (Japanese), Trina Nishimura (English), Yetzary Olcort (Latin American Spanish)
A high school girl who lost her family in a traffic accident. After a freak encounter with a dimensional entity she acquired the power of travelling between the real world and a medieval fantasy world. She decides to exploit this ability to earn 80,000 Gold coins in the fantasy world so she can live the rest of her days leisurely and in peace in any of the two worlds.
  • Big Brother Worship: She had a very close relationship with her older brother and still follows the advice he gave her when he was alive.
  • Chuunibyou: Mitsuha indulges in a bit of melodrama from her 'cringe-worthy past', referring to herself as the Messenger of Lightning. This becomes a running joke as she is unable to shake off the nickname/title.
  • Con Man: A not-so malicious version of this, but Mitsuha’s practices effectively make her this, not that anyone knows it. She purchases goods for cheap, resells them in the other world for much higher values, and makes an insane profit for it. Moreover, she’s very good at lying and manipulating others, such as bringing the Bozes family on her side with a story about being a foreign noble separated from her friends and the money they had. While she doesn’t seek to hurt others with her lies, she’s rather adept at using her silver tongue to get ahead.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: Her parents and older brother died in a traffic accident, giving her more freedom to set up a business in another world without needing to explain her relatives how she's making money.
  • Dimensional Traveler: After grabbing the mysterious entity as she was falling, Mitsuha received this ability to travel between the fantasy world and the real world. She can even use it as a Fast Travel between places in the fantasy world (by jumping once to the real world and then jumping to the other place in the fantasy world from there).
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: A more heroic version of this, to be sure, but still applies. Mitsuha started as just an ordinary student who ended up in another world, not even knowing the language. Not even a year later, and she’s a powerful and connected noblewoman, capable of bringing an otherworldly army to bear on her behalf, and has access to higher quality goods than anyone in the other world has ever seen. On the Earth side of things, she’s the otherworldly “Princess” who brought the Wolf Fang mercenaries to another world to help fight off “the forces of the demon king”, and gave them the corpse of the dragon they slayed (alongside plenty of gold coins) as a reward.
  • Guile Heroine: She uses her smarts and smooth-talking skills to make her own business in another world and gain the favor of multiple nobles.
  • The Gunslinger: She has experience with toy guns from playing Survival Game with her brother. Later, she gets training from a mercenary group to use real guns.
  • Healing Factor: The second ability that Mitsuha won after grabbing the mysterious entity. The entity notes that even if Mitsuha loses an arm, it will grow in a month or so.
  • Older Than She Looks: Due to her slim figure, people assume that Mitsuha is a child as opposed to her actual age of 18.
  • Translator Microbes: Mitsuha couldn't understand the language of the other world, so she requested this ability when she had the chance to the mysterious entity. It turns out that this ability also works in the languages of our Earth too, something Mitsuha quickly exploits in her schemes.
