    Robotech Expeditionary Force

Marcus Rush

Voiced By: Yuri Lowenthal

  • Dark and Troubled Past: Marcus is the last person in his family, who was raised in space. Marlene was killed in the initial invasion of Earth against the Invid.
  • Fantastic Racism: Marcus Rush goes berserk when he finds out that Ariel is an Invid. He's the brother of Marlene Rush, the girl Scott was originally supposed to marry at the beginning of "A New Generation" (the third series in the Robotech universe), and was killed during their first attack on the Invid.

Alex Romero

Voiced By: Arthur Santiago

Maia Sterling

Voiced By: Edie Mirman

  • Ace Pilot: She's an ace pilot at the age of 19. And that's considering she's from the Sterling family.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: A Lieutenant Commander who goes with the rest of Skull Squadron at the front lines in the REF.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Maia is quick to forgive Marcus' Fantastic Racism which was due more to poorly chosen words on his part than actual malice.note . She was also quite gracious to the snarky Alex when informing him that she takes no lip from those under her command.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Maia is half-Zentraedi.
  • Improbable Age: Maia Sterling, at nineteen, is already a Lieutenant Commander and in charge of Skull Squadron. This improbability becomes even more notable when you consider that her Wolf Squadron counterpart, Lt. Commander Daryl Taylor, is thirty-five. On the other hand, this is Max Sterling's kid we're talking about here and this is pretty much true to Robotech's Macross roots...
  • Sibling Rivalry: She and her older sister Dana don't get along at all, and whenever they meet they just go in different directions without speaking to each other. In a variation, "Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles" hints that they don't want this relationship... But Dana has so much baggage about it she can't help but hate her sister, and leaving without talking is the best they can have.

Daryl Taylor

Voiced By: Mark Hamill

  • Advertised Extra: Mark Hamill is this for Daryl Taylor, who has about three brief lines before being killed early in the movie. In the documentary extra on the DVD, Mark Hamill even acknowledges that he was just a guest and the real stars were these other guys who "worked on this thing 20 years ago and were coming back". Although in the prelude comic, he does get more exposure in the REF's fight against Edwards' faction in Tirol.
  • Sacrificial Lion: His death symboilizes that the war against the Invid is getting serious.

Gunther Reinhardt

Voiced By: Dan Reinhardt

  • Ascended Extra: He was the unnamed commander in the returning REF fleet in the last few episodes of Robotech:The New Generation.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Sort of as he was previously conflated with an earlier version of a Colonel Reinhardt that first was mentioned in the Masters episode Outsiders and briefly seen in the Sentinels animation. This earlier Reinhardt was also named Gunther but was older, bald, and chinstrap bearded. In the novelizations, the difference in physical appearance is ignored and he is made the commander of the returning expedition. To address the differences, the older Reinhardt is now named Adam with his son now named Gunther.

    Haydonites

Awareness

  • Big Bad: Once the Invid leave Earth, it starts to take command of the Haydonite forces to take out the REF.
