Team RWBY
Ruby Rose
- Adaptation Dye-Job: Her hair is black instead of dark red.
- Adaptation Personality Change: Ruby is noticeably more somber and introspective here, with her expressing more insecurity over being accepted into Beacon early.
- Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Ruby is less tolerant Weiss's Volume 1 attitude than in the web-series.
- Grade Skipper: She joined Beacon two years early.
- Kid Hero: She's only fifteen when she joins Beacon academy to train to be a huntress.
- Stock Shōnen Hero: She shows some signs of this mixed with a Stock Shoujo Heroine. She's a young All-Loving Hero who wants to become a huntress and help people. She also has a red colour palette.
Yang Xiao Long
- Cool Big Sis: Yang is Ruby's fun older sister.
- Hot-Blooded: Yang's semblance outright revolves around her hot-blooded nature.
- Team Mom: Yang is the most comforting on her team. She tries to ease tensions between everyone early on.
Blake Belladonna
- Hide Your Otherness: Blake hides her cat ears behind a bow to pass as human.
- Little Bit Beastly: Blake is a cat Faunus with cat ears as her Faunus trait.
Weiss Schnee
- Academic Alpha Bitch: She's a bit of a jerk at first but she's very serious about becoming a huntress.
- Icy Blue Eyes: Weiss has sharp blue eyes to accentuate her icy attitude and cool colour palette.
Villains
Roman Torchwick
- Adaptational Badass: Roman is an infamous crime lord rather than a run-of-the-mill crook like in the show. He's also able to handle Ruby with Crescent Rose in a one-on-one in a fight, and is fairly intelligent.
- Adaptational Villainy: He's considerably less affable, having enraged outbursts when things don't go his way, and the manga removes his more comedic scenes. He even tries to give Sun a Breaking Speech and is cold towards Neo, who was the only person he didn’t treat badly in the show.
Cinder Fall
- The Man Behind the Man: She's Roman's boss and the one running the operation. As much as Roman denies it, he's still her lackey.
- Spy Catsuit: Wears one while downloading a virus into the CCT tower.
Mercury Black
- Demoted to Extra: The majority of scenes that had Mercury are cut, with him only appearing in three panels. His and Emerald's assassination of Tukson was removed as was his fight with Pyrrha.
Emerald Sustrai
- Demoted to Extra: Emerald is barely present in the manga, with most of her more important scenes removed altogether.
- Race Lift: While she has dark skin in the show, in the manga, Emerald is drawn with light skin.
Neopolitan
- Adaptational Wimp: Downplayed. In the show, she utterly trounced Yang during their fight and the other girl wasn't able to land a single hit on her the entire time. Here, Neo is put on the defensive and Yang is able to get the upper hand.
- Master of Illusion: Neo uses her Semblance to create glass-like illusions to confuse her opponents.
- Non Chalant Dodge: She is easily able to dodge all attacks that come at her. Yang even notes that Neo can evade anything she sees.
