The hot-headed, short-tempered yet kind-hearted main protagonist of the series who likes retro things.- Butt-Monkey: There are many episodes featuring him getting hurt, cursed or belittled in one way or another. And even avoiding that, he has to deal with an enormous cast of annoying and downright troublesome characters he created in the first place. However, it’s arguably well-deserved in most cases given that he’s a major Jerkass in most of the episodes and often brings this upon himself.
- Green and Mean: He wears a green shirt and as of Season 4, a green hat, and he is an absolute jerk in 85% of the episodes.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: NostalgiaSquare has acted like a Jerkass on more than a few occasions, can be extremely selfish, bratty and egotistical, and is pretty infamous for having a dangerous Hair-Trigger Temper, but he does care about the people around him and deeply cares about his creations. Although this isn’t always the case
- Protagonist Title: He's the titular character of the series.
- Spoiled Brat: An extremely infamous example; In Seasons 1 to 3, NostalgiaSquare would almost always whine, cry and get angry if things did not go his way to the point of acting violent and brutal, and his offscreen parents never even scolded him, and didn't say anything to him, which lead him to become somewhat of a Karma Houdini in some way, and was always rewarded. As of Season 4, he seemed to mature quite a bit, but subverted in Season 7, where he does immoral things again on a somewhat regular basis.
- Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: Played straight in Seasons 1-3, although averted in Seasons 4-6, although played straight once more in Season 7-present.
