Ranko

Unlike the manga, this version of Ranko is not a disguise adopted by Ranma to hide from his mother. After the accident where Ranma lost his memories and decided to adopt a female persona given that he was in his girl form when he regained consciousness, Ranko has slowly started to become an independent alter, with her own opinions and desires, something the male Ranma is definitively against.

  • Accidental Theft: She picked up a very valuable royal heirloom just by chance, but forgot about it because she was attacked by two very aggressive trackers from the Musk Dynasty right after she put it in her pocket.
  • Action Girl: A somewhat reluctant one at first, but as a result of several factions in the region wanting to capture her, Ranko has been forced to adapt into this role.
  • Battle Couple: With Ryoga, after convincing him that she's not a helpless damsel.
  • Divergent Character Evolution: When she first wakes up, she's just as crude and blunt as Ranma in spite of her Identity Amnesia. However, her lack of memories and people around her consistently treating her as female ensure she genuinely starts identifying as a girl, craving romance with Ryoga and enjoying her friendship with Lychee — and it's hinted to horrify her original personality.
  • Enemy Within: Her and Ranma are this to each other. She's terrified by her original personality when she gets a glimpse of him as she's able to guess he intents to lock her away and never let her front again, but on the other hand she's doing exactly the same thing to him.
  • Identity Amnesia: The reason why Ranma decided to take a female persona is exactly because of this.
  • Mistaken for Thief: Arguably the biggest source of problems Ranko's facing so far. Her description of a 'redheaded martial artist girl' matches that of Chervil, who stole a very valuable ring from the Musk Dynasty. Granted, Ranko did take that ring and distractedly put it in her pocket, but Chervil had dropped it first.
  • Obliviously Evil: From Ranma's viewpoint. Ranko doesn't know anything about her original personality, believing herself the one and only owner of the body she wears, so she has no qualms indulging her own wishes and desires, while Ranma is powerless to prevent her from going against his preferences.
  • Quest for Identity: Her main motivation, though as she settles more and more into her own person this appears to become less important as the story progresses, with Ranko focusing more on her relationship with Ryoga and her friendship with Lychee.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Her growing attraction to Ryoga is based on him selflessly offering to help her with her Quest for Identity and doing his utmost to protect her when trouble finds her.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: After having the opportunity to explore her personality for a bit, Ranko discovers she still enjoys martial arts and keeps her blunt, rather crude demeanor. But she also daydreams about enjoying a domestic life with Ryoga.

Ginseng

The current leader of Yakusai, the herbalist village. He's good friends with Cologne, though he appears to fear her wrath quite a bit. Tried to capture Ryoga and Ranko early in the story and almost succeeds, but his plans were ruined by Pink and Link.

  • Oh, Crap!: His reaction when he finds out Pink and Link released Ranko and Ryoga to get even with Shampoo, as this is something that could put the Herbalist village, and himself in particular, in direct conflict with the Amazons. He has no other choice but to punish Pink and Link in order to compensate the Amazons for their actions.
  • Old Master: While not as old as the Amazon elders, Ginseng is an old herbalist with great knowledge of his craft, being able to create whatever concoction he needs depending on the situation.

     Amazons Village

Rinse

Second of the three strongest elders in Joktsuzoku, she helps Cologne with the training of the younger members of the village and with other things in order to prepare in case the Musk Dynasty decides to attack them. She also lends a hand keeping an eye on Genma to prevent him from escaping the Village.

Lotion

The third of the strongest elders in the Amazon Village, who was banished from Joketsuzoku in exchange of the Amazon council forgiving Mousse's mother, who had accidentally broken the village's rules.

  • Cool Old Lady: Once she gets to know them better, she relaxes considerably around Ryoga and Ranko, even giving them advice regarding their curse (to Ryoga in relation to his lack of sense of direction), cooking dessert for both as a reward after achieving a difficult task, or giving them new clothes and cooking lessons (in Ranko's case).
  • Miniature Senior Citizens: Like Cologne and Rinse, she is also an old lady that has shrunk to Cologne-like size due to age.
  • Oh, Crap!: When she finds a Musk royal heirloom in Ranko's discarded pants, she's rightfully panicked at the idea of their trackers burning her farm down as retaliation for thievery.
  • Tampon Run: After reassuring Ranko over her First Period Panic, Lotion calls Lychee's mother to order feminine hygiene products. It causes a smidge of awkwardness since the Amazon elder is far past the age she needs these.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: For Cologne, as an Elder Amazon teaching advanced martial art techniques to Ranko and Ryouga in spite of them being foreigners.
  • Unperson: Nobody in the Amazon Village is allowed to speak her name after she was banished.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Unless she does a great service for the Amazon Village, she won't ever return there and will die in exile.

     Musk Dynasty

Sumac

An old member of the Musk Wolf clan who acts as the Royal Advisor for the Dragon Family. Sumac tries to fullfill his role as best as he can, and uses his considerable knowledge for this purpose.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Not happy with Herb at all when the Dragon Prince threatens to lay waste at the Amazon Village for not keeping Ranko imprisoned, very aware it's Misplaced Retribution.
  • Old Master: Apart from being the Royal Advisor, Sumac is also one of the masters who trains the younger Musk Warriors.
  • Related in the Adaptation: He is introduced as Mint's grandfather.
  • The Nose Knows: His sense of smell is so sharp he can tell what type of mushroom Mint and Lime ate hours before, and was able to tell that two of his disciples had a scuffle with Mousse and Shampoo by detecting traces of their sweat in his students' clothes.

Papri

A girl from the Tiger clan and also Chervil's best friend. Papri usually tries to support Chervil's schemes as best as she can, but often chooses not to participate in them to avoid getting in trouble herself.

  • Best Friend: With Chervil, understandable since they are also Childhood Friends.
  • Bully Hunter: She saved Chervil from a trio of Lion clan girls who were bullying her by threatening to beat them up.
  • Super-Strength: Being a member of the Musk Tiger clan, Papri is hinted at being physically stronger than most other girls her age.

Chervil

Herb's fiancee, who earned the right to marry him by training hard from a young age. Her first real meeting with him apparently didn't go well, as she decided stealing his royal heirloom ring and escaping the Musk Citadel was the best retaliation at the time, something that ended up creating a huge mess for everyone.
  • Action Girl: She is hinted at being the best female martial artist of her age group in the Musk Dynasty.
  • All Amazons Want Hercules: This (along with his good looks) is the main reason Herb caught her eye at first, and what drove her to become as strong as she could.
  • Identical Stranger: Downplayed, but part of why the Musk Dynasty starts to chase Ranko is because she's a redhead, just like Chervil.
  • Must Make Amends: She promises to a sleeping Herb that she will do all she can to fix the problem she caused.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Chervil really regrets stealing Herb's royal ring and causing a lot of trouble for everyone, when she first appears she is even shown crying Tears of Remorse while hiding in an abandoned cabin.
  • Reluctant Warrior: Despite her skill, Chervil doesn't really like to fight, and only does it when cornered or when she has no other choice. The only instance so far where she had to fight, she effortlessly fought Mousse and Shampoo at the same time to a standstill, and it was shown she was not even trying.
  • Runaway FiancĂ©e: Pulled a runner with Herb's royal heirloom in a fit of temper. Now she very much regrets it, but knows the Musk Dynasty is more liable to treat her roughly for her thievery than welcome her back.
  • Super-Strength: While not as physically strong as her friend Papri, being a member of the Lion clan means Chervil is strong enough to lift boulders about her size and then throwing them around without much difficulty.

     Nekonron

Jurojin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jurojin_pic_2.jpg

The future bodyguard and Overt Operative of Nekonron's Royal family.

Jurojin enters the story during the Nekonron arc, it is then explained he interrupted his training and returned to Seven Luck Mountain just to see Monlon and finally propose to her, not knowing that Ryoga and Ranko are on their way to save Lychee, who Monlon kidnapped in order to lure Ranko to the mountain and arrest her.

He plays the role of One Extra Member to the Seven Lucky Gods and is portrayed as being the second strongest of the group only after Prince Kirin. Jurojin intercepts Ryoga and Ranko before they can reach Monlon's station, and while he lets Ranko go, he demands Ryoga stays and fights him.

  • Badass Boast: During his fight with Ryoga, when the lost boy made the mistake of underestimating him and thinking Jurojin was defeated, only to receive a powerful counterpunch when he didn't expect it.
Jurojin: You should not underestimate me, I am the next bodyguard of Nekonron's Royal family, I am not like the Lucky Gods you've faced so far.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He has gone to great lenghts to protect and help his adoptive brothers, the twins Daikokuse and Daihakuse. Jurojin has risked his life to find medicine for them when they were children and even gave up his spot as member of the Seven Lucky Gods so that the twins were spared the Training from Hell the position of Nekonron's Royal bodyguard and overt operative requires.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Monlon.
  • I Am Your Opponent: When Jurojin intercepts Ryoga and Ranko during their climb of Seven Luck mountain, he lets Ranko go, but stops Ryoga from going further, claiming he has his own reasons to stop him. It is revealed after their fight that Jurojin did this because he knows Ryoga is too strong for Monlon and wanted to protect her from him.
  • These Hands Have Killed: In order to save Monlon from a couple of bandits who pulled actual guns on them and to secure the healing herb his little brothers needed, Jurojin had no other choice but to cut a rope bridge in half and drop the two criminals to their deaths.
