Click here to them as teenagers
  • Cool Old Lady: They're all in their early 70’s and as former protectors of the cookbook, they've got tons of experience with the magic and would often take turns in helping out at least one of the girls.
  • My Greatest Failure: Becky and Gina both deeply regret being responsible for Chuck's disappearance in 1965 via magical caramel apple. Their spell was just supposed to wipe any magic-related memories since Chuck had been threatening all of them, and not even they could handle Chuck flat-out vanishing. Ida could care less about her part in the act, as she just wanted to get her morbium back, and was angry at Chuck for tearing her family apart.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Becky Quinn (nice), Ida Perez (mean), and Gina Silvers (in-between)
     Rebecca "Becky" Patterson-Quinn

Rebecca Patterson

Played By: Dee Wallace; Samantha Bailey (young)

Kelly and Buddy Quinn's grandmother, and Scott Quinn's mother. She was once a protector of the Cookbook along with Ida Perez and Gina Silvers. Although she was a decent protector, the book would soon start to tear the girls apart as time passed and they grew up. She tried to destroy the book for the safety of someone else who might come across it, but the book ended up cursing her in response and making her emotionless and empty inside, which would affect her family a lot.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Darbie had once stated she didn't know Kelly's grandmother was capable of getting mad, due to how warm and sweet she usually is. Although there has been the rare occasion when she stands her ground and berates someone, and it's not pretty. Chuck Hankins being a notable example of a victim. Grandma Quinn may be a loyal and open relative/companion but she's no pushover.
  • Does Not Like Magic: She was not happy to see the cookbook again as she saw it as what drove the original trio apart and as a danger to her family. She wanted to avoid having her granddaughter cooking again.
  • Emotionless Girl: Part of her original curse.
  • Empty Shell: Her personality as this is the main plot point of Season 1.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has blonde hair and she's very loving, caring and protective over her family.
  • Mama Bear: See Never Mess with Granny below.
  • My Greatest Failure: She really regrets the way she had used her morbium seed to end her, Ida and Gina's protector era without consulting them, after a fight between them got out of had. Plus it took away any chance of Ida and Gina being able to reverse their curses and live normal, happy lives.
  • Never Mess with Granny: She will do just about anything to protect her son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids from any harm. She especially cares about Kelly's safety and will fight anyone to tries to harm her.
  • Token Good Teammate: Of the OCs trio back in the 60s, and continues to serve this role even to this day. Ida's a self-serving trickster and a Manipulative Bitch and Gina's a Senior Creep who can hold one serious grudge. But Becky? She's just a sweet, innocent old woman who only wants what's best for those around her and doesn't want any part in dangerous, harmful magic. She's the friendlist and most open member of the trio, and far more willing to forgive than either of her partners.
     Ida Perez/Mama P

Played By: Amy Hill; Tiana Le (young)

The owner of the self-titled cafe "Mama P's" As a former protector of the cookbook,

  • All There in the Manual: According to the General Trivia section on Prime Video, Mama P has never missed a day of work because she would use magic to make herself feel better whenever she was ill.
    • Her secret spice cabinet was built in the early 1970s back when she first opened Mama P's.
  • Ambiguously Evil: She was this back in Season 1, where the girls would often have to go to her restaurant to gain certain species, and yet the girls didn't know whether she was trustworthy. It didn't help that certain episodes of the season had her vaguely talking with Gina Silvers in dark, ominous lighting. The girls and Jake were unsure whether Mama P was on their side or not, as she committed a couple of shady actions (i.e.: stealing the cookbook to try breaking her curse), and yet appeared to be on the girls' side when she reveals herself to have been cursed by Gina Silvers to be unable to leave Saffron Falls. This conversation from Jake and the girls pretty much sums it up perfectly:
    Jake: I'm really confused.
    Kelly: So are we.
Jake: Is Mama P good, is she bad? You had me lie to her, break into her shop and steal from her, and now you're just hanging out with her in the secret pantry? What's going on?
Hannah: Honestly... we have no idea.
    • In the season 1 finale, it's ultimately revealed Mama P had been manipulating the girls into helping her break her own curse, and had no intention of helping out Kelly with her own problem, and didn't even care that the effects of her town would leave everyone frozen. It’s also revealed that the story Mama P told the girls is incorrect, she claimed Gina cursed her out of spite and then they never spoke again. She left out the parts where she cursed Gina first into never being able to play Piano outside her house. As such, Gina cursed her back so Mama P couldn’t leave Saffron Falls, thus making Mama P miserable for 40 years. However, when she ends up returning to town in Season 2 and is forced to deal with her actions, and how they isolated her nearly everyone, she's forced to make try to change and becomes an Anti-Hero, often aiding the girls, and yet still occasionally mysterious and not always owning up her faults.
  • Anti-Hero: Two-faced, manipulative and not afraid to cause harm to her opponents, she ends up becoming this after joining the heroes.
  • The Atoner: She spends a good amount of the series trying to make up for her actions in the first season.
  • Benevolent Boss: She's a polite and generous boss to her top employee Jake, and she genuinely cares about and loves him.
  • Big Fun: She crisscrosses between being this an a Fat Bitch. She's an obese old lady, who's both a beloved figure of her restaurant and a former protector of magic, with years of experience she can provide to other protectors. She also cares deeply about Jake.
  • Brainy Brunette: Her hair is dark brown, and not only is she a smart and powerful magic mentor, she's also a master manipulator who can play just about anybody — magic or no.
  • Closed Circle: Her curse throughout the first season is that she can't leave Saffron Falls no matter how hard she tries to. Although she does manage to break the curse in the season finale.
  • Consummate Liar: Oh yeah, she's particularly infamous for lying and scheming on a regular basis. For her, manipulation and lying are like breathing. That's how often she does it.
  • Con Woman: From her experience as a protector, she's used varied magic recipes to charm her customers and other people into loving her food, and even became one of Saffron Falls' most beloved citizens, due to her public persona and success of her restaurant.
    • When she traveled to Paris she opened a hugely successful French bakery titled "Madame P's", that was just as beloved as her American restaurant... which she attained by stealing Madame Roche's (the previous owner of the bakery) rights to the café by getting her to eat a magic croissant and tricking her into signing the property over to her.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She may lie about a lot of things, and play the victim card a couple of times, but one thing she's doesn't fake: Her caring side for her closest employee Jake. She'd take some of his advice to heart, and even try to change her ways if she has to, but she still desires Jake's respect and loyalty, especially after the tragedy that struck her actual family.
  • Even Bad Women Love Their Mamas: Well, father in this case, but still. Mama P is so bitter and despises Chuck so much because he “tore her family apart”. It’s mentioned Chuck stole Ida’s Morbium Seed and used it to get Ida’s father fired from his job. He wasn’t able to get a new job because Chuck framed her father of theft. As such, Ida’s parents divorced and she was miserable at home. As well as that, she’s been unable to leave Saffron Falls for 40 years (which could suggest she’s lost contact with other relatives due to never being able to leave her hometown).
  • Evil Is Petty: It's briefly mentioned that she even cursed the Rockberry Wolves to never win just because of a grudge she had on the quarterback's mother.
  • Evil Old Folks: She turns out to have been using the girls as part of her plan to break her curse, not caring about whether anyone gets hurt in the process. Plus, she's in her mid-60s. Don't worry, she goes through a Heel–Face Turn and goes back to being a Cool Old Lady.
  • Ex-Big Bad: She pulls a Heel–Face Turn in Season 2 a becomes an Anti-Hero towards her closest allies, though they're not very eager to forgive her.
  • Fat Bitch: While she can also be a Big Fun, most of the time, she'll fall into this card. She has a constant habit of lying to and manipulating those around her and will do whatever she can to come on top, and reach her goals, not caring about of anyone gets harmed in the process most of the time.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: The girls and the other OCs would occasionally show that they don't always like being around her. Based on how deceptive and untrusting she is, this is not without good reason.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She may be self-serving, manipulative, and perfectly willing to use people to her own advantage, but she'll still genuinely support the team when there's a serious threat.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Notably within the first season, where she acts as an ally to the girls, when really she's using them to help break to long-lasting curse, and close down all the competing food areas. In fact, she's so skilled at manipulation, that not even the heroes always know when to trust her.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: Even after her "redemption" in Season 2, she would still show shades of manipulation and ruthlessness.
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: She shows shades of this trope time and time again as she often refuses to acknowledge her mistakes and can hold one hell of a grudge.
  • Token Evil Teammate: While none of the OCs are devoid of flaws per see, Ida has the most corrupting factors and is the one who's most willing to cause harm.
  • Trickster Mentor: When she's tutoring Kelly in learning magic, she forces Kelly to do a bunch of seemingly pointless task around the cafe, which turns out to be a Mr. Miyagi-style of teaching, in showing her how putting just the right amount of normal ingredients in a meal, was just as important in putting magical ingredients into it. She even does a "tough love" kind of mentoring, by trapping Kelly in a barrier, via magic at one point, forcing Kelly to use her recently learned skills to get herself out.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Zigzagged; She's well-known and beloved enough to become Saffron Falls' citizen of the year, but her good publicity goes straight out the window when her true nature is revealed, and she gives a harsh rant on how much she hates the people of the city. Although, she may have a good percentage of her fans back after she at least tries to give an apology to everyone.

     Gina Silvers
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gina_2.PNG
Played By: Ellen Karsten; Harper Quaintance (young)

  • All There in the Manual: According to the Prime Video trivia area, Silvers was taught proper etiquette from her parents at an early age. Plus her mother was a classically trained pianist who always reminded Gina that good posture was key for playing piano.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Similar to Mama P, she was this back in Season 1 where she would scare most of the neighborhood kids off — sometimes with just her mere appearance— and was overall very mysterious and creepy, leading to rumors spreading of her being a witch. Her cold demeanor and strictness didn't help matters in the slightest. It didn't help that certain episodes of the season had her vaguely talking with Mama P in dark, ominous lighting. Midway through the season, it's revealed that Silvers was once a protector of the cookbook along with Becky and Ida, and that she had cursed Ida/Mama P to be unable to leave Saffron Falls, and that numerous people in town had been magically harmed along with their businesses, making Gina look even more suspicious. The season 1 finale, however, reveals that Silvers was merely a Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold, wasn't actually evil, and that Mama P was the one spelling the other people and their businesses. On top of that, she herself was cursed to be unable to play piano outside of her house.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She lives alone in a creepy house, is very frightening and antisocial, uses a crow to spy on the girls, and ultimately just wants to protect them.
    • Also the crow appears less in the later seasons since the audience knows Silvers is a good woman.
  • Good All Along: She's built up as the main villain of Season 1, but turns out to be genuinely a caring lady, even if she was very stern and cold.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Even after she's revealed to ultimately have good indentions, she still maintains her extremely cold demeanor, and isn't afraid to chastise Ida or even Becky when she feels like they've wronged her. She's especially aloof towards Ida and isn't eager to make things up with her. She also shows no remorse for cursing her all those years back.
  • Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold: Saffron Falls sees her as the creepy neighbor in the house. And she has to spend most of her time alone unloved. But she's very loving, supportive and well-meaning.
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: Mainly throughout the first season, and occasionally in the later seasons. She would often scare people off with her cold and stern demeanor and refuse to help out Becky and Ida for petty personal reasons even if they had decent intentions.
  • Senior Creep: She's old and wrinkly and pretty hostile and anti-social, which scares a lot of people off.
  • Stern Teacher: She teaches piano lessons at her house (since the curse wouldn't let her play outside of the house), but she's a very stern, no-nonsense teacher who isn't afraid to belittle her students or kick them out if she feels they're not good enough. In fact, one of her students left crying. However, once Hannah improved at her piano playing skills, and she actually got to know her, she was mainly stern because she wanted to help them, and share her knowledge.
  • Teen Genius: When she was around the main girl trio's age, she was shown to have played in Carnegie Hall. Then sometime later while she's still young, she was a guest musician in the New York Philharmonic and performed Prélude, Clair de Lune, Menuet, and Passepied. Not to mention all of those music school master's degrees she had gotten. Unfortunately, thanks to her curse, she was unable to continue her career growing up and began to lose hope.
