Dr. Koopa
Prince-Doctor Bowser Koopa the Second (sometimes referred as "Bowser the Wise") is the crown prince and Royal Scientist of the Koopa Kingdom, and one of the main protagonists.
- Adaptational Badass: He's way, WAY stronger than his game counterpart.
- Adaptational Heroism: While most A Us have Mario help Sonic defeat Robotnik, in Freedom Fighters NEO, it is Dr. Koopa who helps Sonic defeat Robotnik.
- Badass Bookworm: He's smart and can pack quite a punch. Although this is most likely an understatement.
- Batman Gambit: His upgrades for Metallix were made to remove Bowser's Achilles' Heel, which is Mario. To put it in a better way, he made Metallix in such a way so Mario can't defeat him. Metallix managed to turn this gambit into a Xanatos Gambit: due to having the knowledge of all of Mario's skills, Metallix can anticipate anything Mario does and turn it in his favor.
- Chessmaster Sidekick: He's Bowser's sidekick (which he justifies by being the crown prince), and a master planner.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: His eyes. They're green by default.
- His robotic eye changes to emote. The code is:
- Red=Anger
- Yellow=Joy
- Blue=Sadness
- Purple=Fear
- His organic eye changes depending on the balance between light and darkness:
- When the balance is tilted towards light, it becomes blue.
- When the balance is tilted towards darkness, it becomes yellow.
- However, his rage can sometimes override this code. When this is the case, both eyes are red.
- His robotic eye changes to emote. The code is:
- Cyborg: His limbs, shell and left side of his head are roboticized post-Heroic Sacrifice.
- Easily Forgiven: The Freedom Fighters welcome him back with open arms once he realizes the magnitude of his crimes against them. However, X makes it clear Dr. Koopa is Forgiven, but Not Forgotten. Dr. Koopa himself easily forgives Metallix for his actions in the Mecha Sonic Saga, as to him, Metallix was but a Well-Intentioned Extremist
- Everyone Has Standards: He invokes this by stating no one in their right mind would crash a wedding they have no connection to:Dr. Koopa: (to Mario) Crashing the wedding?! THAT'S LOW, EVEN FOR YOU!
- Gadgeteer Genius: Like his game counterpart, although Dr. Koopa uses more advanced technology.
- Genius Bruiser: Yup.
- Heel–Face Revolving Door: Pulls one during the Mega Man Saga. First, he pulls a Face–Heel Turn after a Heroic Sacrifice which roboticizes him halfway, in order to avenge Repliforce. Then, when Zero goes Ax-Crazy, Dr. Koopa realizes it's his fault Zero turned like that, pulls a Heel–Face Turn and arranges Zero and Iris' wedding to fix his mistake. During the wedding, he and Metallix stop the revolving door when Mario tries to force not only Dr. Koopa, but the entire Koopa Kingdom to pull a Face–Heel Turn.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Non-death example. He pulls one for Sonia and Manic after they're revealed to be Sonic's siblings. This sacrifice results with the good doctor becoming a cyborg.
- Impossible Genius: He managed to give Iris the perfect balance between a warrior spirit and a pacifist heart, while keeping her personality and memories... although only after his Heel Realization, and Iris still needed to be snapped from a Heroic B So D. (It was stated that combining a warrior spirit and a pacifist heart in the same Reploid is impossible.)
- According to Metallix, Dr. Koopa, as a one year old, created an entire sun system after eating his birthday cake.
- It's All My Fault: Well, he doesn't believe Terra, Aqua and Ventus getting into a Fate Worse than Death is entirely his fault, but he believes they wouldn't have gotten into this fate if he killed Xehanort and Vanitas the second he saw them.
- My God, What Have I Done?: He gets conscience stricken when Zero goes Maverick.
- MacGuffin Turned Human: Actually, turned Koopa. And it's a rare male case. Word of God is that Dr. Koopa, in an attempt to make a Cosmic Retcon (as part of an Early-Installment Weirdness), absorbed all energies of a Chaos Emerald. Freedom Fighters NEO has no plot revolving around Dr. Koopa being a Living MacGuffin, but having absorbed a Chaos Emerald, which clearly is a MacGuffin, he still qualifies as this.
- Must Make Amends: The third part of the Mega Man Saga revolves around Dr. Koopa arranging the marriage between Zero and Iris, as an apology for his cruel actions towards Zero.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: You know you fucked up badly when both his eyes are red.
- Shipper on Deck: He has a lot of non-Mario ships. Check here for more info.
- This Is Unforgivable!: While he easily forgives Metallix, he's less forgiving to traitors than his father. Subverted with Metallix, but Double Subverted due to his belief that Metallix wasn't a traitor, but rather a Well-Intentioned Extremist.
- The Unchosen One: Feeling that his father was nothing more than a Cosmic Plaything, Dr. Koopa caused a Cosmic Retcon so he'd be the hero. Dr. Koopa later revived millions of Reploids, forged the X-Blade, helped Lilo and Stitch capture Jumba's experiments and changed the fates of dozens other worlds. His Chessmaster abilities ultimately led to the wedding between a Keyblade Wielder (Sora, who is The Unchosen One himself) and a Princess of Heart (Kairi), which causes the return of true light.
- The Chosen One: Despite all this, though, he still was chosen by Foreteller Ava as her successor, exactly due to him being a "wild card". This fact and the fact Ava gave him a copy of the Book of Prophecies prompted him to forge the X-blade.
- Xanatos Gambit: He starts using his Chessmaster powers more often after Terra, Aqua and Ventus got into a Fate Worse than Death.
Bowser
King Bowser Koopa the First (or Bowser the Great) is the king of the Koopa Kingdom.
- Adaptational Heroism: He's more selfless than the games depict him.
- Achilles' Heel: Mario is his only weakness. Metallix's upgrade was supposed to remove this weakness.
- Arch-Enemy: Originally, Mario was Bowser's archenemy. When Mario has a Heel Realization, Bowser's own Heartless took this role.
- Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Has a habit of growing giant whenever the situation calls.
- Authority Equals Asskicking: He's the Koopa King and the most powerful Koopa, second only to his son and Metallix.
- Badass Armfold: Has a habit to do this whenever his victory is unavoidable.
- Badass Army: The Koopa Troop has accomplished some impressive feats. They took the victory of the Overlanders in the Great War right when the Overlanders thought they won, and they would have taken over the Mushroom Kingdom and exterminated the Toads if not for Mario.
- Badass Boast: Right before he faces a danger headon.
- Benevolent Boss: The main cause of his popularity is how he knows how important is for the minions to have a normal life. He also values dedication, whether it's to work, or to family and friends. However...
- Berserk Button: Failure is not an option for him. And neither is giving up.
