As of the current year in-game, there have been a total of twenty-eight Presidents, and a number of minor characters. Several people have also created player characters of their own, who are also listed.
1. Artemas Ward
The first POTUS, only becoming President when George Washington suffered an accident that led to his death.
- Our Presidents Are Different: President Focus Group.
- Reluctant Ruler:
2. William Few (Federalist)
The second President, and the first from the Federalist Party.
- Our Presidents Are Different: President Personable.
3./6. Henry Lee III (Federalist)
The third and, strangely, also sixth President.
4. George Clinton (Republican)
The fourth President and the first from the Republican Party.
5. Charles Lee (Federalist)
The fifth President.
7. William Eustis (Republican)
The seventh, and generally considered the greatest, President of the United States. Also the first POTUS to ever be consecutively reelected.
- Our Presidents Are Different: President Personable, President Iron, and arguably a relatively benevolent President Scheming.
8. Philip J. Schuyler (Federalist)
The eighth President of the United States.
9. Franklin Boyd (Republican)
The ninth President of the United States.
- Famous, Famous, Fictional: The first (and only until Rabinovich) player character to become President.
- Four-Star Badass: Commanded an American army to victory over the British in the First War of American Liberation.
- Our Presidents Are Different: A somewhat indecisive President Focus Group and a past President Action.
10. Edmund J. Lee (Federalist)
The tenth President of the United States, and the first to be assassinated.
- Our Presidents Are Different: President Target and President Focus Group.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: Served for less than a year before his assassination.
11. Peter Bluell Porter (Federalist)
The eleventh President of the United States and a former Vice President.
- You Are in Command Now: Elevated to the Presidency after the assassination of President Lee.
12. William Hendricks (Federalist)
The twelfth President of the United States.
13. William Learned Marcy (Republican)
Thirteenth President and the last one from the Republican Party.
14. Rufus Choate (Federalist)
Fourteenth President of the United States.
15. Fernando Wood (American)
Fifteenth President of the United States, the first President from the American Party, and the first to be impeached.
16. Alexander D. Bache (American)
Sixteenth President of the United States and an ascended Vice President.
- You Are in Command Now: After Fernando Wood's impeachment, he is thrust into the Oval Office.
17. Robert E. Lee
Yes, that Robert E. Lee. Seventeenth President of the United States and the first to die of natural causes in office. Generally considered a subpar President, although many of the problems were arguably not his fault. Was reelected due to rigging the Electoral College (sadly not the last time for this to happen), only to die and leave the country to its first (and only) Agrarian Populist President.
18. Andrew Johnson (Agrarian Populist)
Eighteenth president of the United States, taking over from the dead President Lee. First and only President from the Agrarian populist Party.
19. Nathaniel P. Banks (American)
Nineteenth President of the United States and the final one from the American Party.
20. Henry P. Whipple (Workers)
Twentieth President of the United States and the first President from the Workers' Party.- Our Presidents Are Different: Widely considered the epitome of President Personable. He was excellent at building bridges, genuinely a pleasant and pious man, and oversaw an economic boom after the crash of the 1860s.
21. Frederick T. Frelinghuysen (Federalist)
Twenty-first President of the United States and the second to be assassinated.
- Our Presidents Are Different: President Target.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: Like President EJ Lee, Felinghuysen didn't make it to a year before being killed.
22. William B. Allison (Federalist)
Twenty-second President of the United States.
23. David B. Knickerbocker (Workers)
Twenty-third President of the United States.
24. George Armstrong Custer (Federalist)
Yep, that Custer. Twenty-fourth president of the United States, the first to serve for three terms, the first to not hold any political office, and the first (and hopefully only) to be shot by his own bodyguards.
- Bodyguard Betrayal: Played with, as the President in question had been impeached and accused of assassinating his political rival; the Presidential Guard accidentally assassinate Custer in the Oval Office while trying to arrest him.
- Landslide Election: His second victory. On the other hand, he is on the receiving end of one of these in his third campaign. He finds a way to win again.
- Our Presidents Are Different: George Custer (depending on your viewpoint of him) could be considered President Evil, President Corrupt, President Scheming, and/or even President Lunatic. Those with a more sympathetic view of him see him as President Action and President Iron, for his three-term leadership through the Great War against Britain. Without a doubt, he epitomizes President Jerkass.
- President Evil: Depending on your viewpoint of him. Without a doubt, he engaged in rampant corruption and the silencing of dissent during his three terms in office.
25. Arthur P. Gorman (Federalist)
Twenty-fifth President of the United States, taking power after the deaths of both the President and Vice President within hours of each other. Goes out with a whimper after a defeat by his own Secretary of State in the conventions.
- Graceful Loser: When his Secretary of State, Charlemagne Tower, defeats him handily in the 1900 Federalist convention, he officially withdraws from the running and endorses Tower with no fuss.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: Served only four months before being thrashed in the Federalist convention by his own Secretary of State.
26. Thompson Henry Murch (Workers)
Twenty-sixth President of the United States and the first WP President not to be a member of the party's Christian wing.- Landslide Election: Wallops Charlemagne Tower in the 1900 election.
27. Nelson Appleton Miles (Federalist)
Twenty-seventh President of the United States.28. Andrei "Andy" Rabinovich (Workers)
A prominent New York labor leader, Representative for NY's 10th Congressional District, one of the founders of the Workingman's Association (TTL's answer to the IWW), Governor of New York, and eventually, the 28th (and first Jewish) president of the United States.
- An Immigrant's Tale: Not him specifically, but his parents fled the Jewish pogroms in Russia before he was born.
- Dark Horse Victory: The 1912 election, won by a literal three electoral votes.
- Famous, Famous, Fictional: The second player character to be elected - the last one was early in the game, Franklin Boyd.
- Immigrant Parents: See above.
- Our Presidents Are Different: President Target. Assassinated by a group of white supremacists.
29. Robert L. Owen (Workers)
The twenty-ninth President of the United States, taking power after the assassination of his predecessor.
Sen. Samuel Levi (Soqualist Labor)
A United States Senator and a notorious party-jumper (Workers - Liberal Reform - Soqualists). Currently in jail like a number of other prominent Soqualists for opposition to the war.
- What Could Have Been: Came surprisingly close to victory in the 1888 Presidential election, despite the fact that he was Jewish and a member of a third party.
Sen. Emerson Unferhow (Free American)
An American politician from the Free American party who ran as the last gasp of the FA Party. At one point challenged President Banks in the convention and nearly unseated him, gaining 40% of the delegates at one point. In 1880, he and the Americans were walloped badly; they received less than 15% of the vote, effectively sounding the death knell of the Free American party.- Curb-Stomp Battle: On the receiving end of one in the 1880 election.
- Dark Horse Victory: Pulled it off during the 1880 Free American convention, only to lose in the general to Felinghuysen.
- Immigrant Parents
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After his crushing 1880 defeat, Unferhow retired from politics.
Carrie Nation (Prohibition)
A prominent Prohibition activist.
Maynard D. Tasker (Truth and Light)
A former war correspondent and veteran of the Great War, Maynard D. Tasker is a Smithite, meaning he is a follower of the church that arose from Joseph Smith's teachings (The Commonwealth of Christ). He was the first Representative elected from Ute when it became a state in 1899.- Illegal Religion: Partial; The Smithite's have been subject to Federal oversight for years, as they kinda sorta rebelled against the government, and their holy text (The Book of Joseph) was banned by several states. Tasker actually sued when authorities in the District of Columbia tried to confiscate his copy of the Book, took his case to the Supreme Court, and won.
- Mr. Exposition: Tasker explains a lot about the beliefs of the Smithite faith in letters that mostly exist as vehicles for illustrating the religion.
Peter Flatheim (Soqualist Labor/Indepdnent)
Son of Norwegian nationalist and ideologue Olaf Flatheim whom also is responsible for the creation of Soqualism. Currently a State Legislator and owner of a newspaper in New York.Arthur Boyd
Franklin Arthur Boyd Jr. (generally just known as Arthur Boyd), son of President Franklin Boyd.Franklin Boyd III (Workers)
Grandson of President Franklin Boyd, an inventor, and briefly candidate for the Workers' Party in their convention.A. Random Kitisen (Workers)

Edward L. Henderson (Constitution)
A state legislator from Washington (our world's Illinois) and a member of the Constitution Party.Vice President Joseph "Joe" Sugarsville (Workers)
A young son of immigrants and soldier in the 6th New York Volunteer Infantry; later, a Senator and eventual Vice President for the Workers Party.
- Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: Is literally a young, Americanized Joseph Stalin.
Elizabeth Bacon "Libbie" Custer (Federalist)
The wife of President Evil George Custer and a schemer herself in her own right.
- Historical Villain Upgrade: Orchestrates the assassination of the 1896 victor tor help her husband win a third term. Even Custer is horrified by this.
Joseph Smith (Christian Democrat)
A major American religious leader, politician, and second-place Presidential candidate.
- Fictional Political Party: Founds the Christian Democrats, who eventually form the backbone of the Workers' Party.
- Point of Divergence: The Church of the Latter-Day Saints was never founded, but Smith may be singlehandedly responsible for the American left's shift to Christianism.
- Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: The real Joseph Smith never entered national politics, much less nearly become President.
