A former war correspondent and veteran of the Great War, Maynard D. Tasker is a Smithite, meaning he is a follower of the church that arose from Joseph Smith's teachings (The Commonwealth of Christ). He was the first Representative elected from Ute when it became a state in 1899.
*IllegalReligion: Partial; The Smithite's have been subject to Federal oversight for years, as they kinda sorta rebelled against the government, and their holy text (The Book of Joseph) was banned by several states. Tasker actually sued when authorities in the District of Columbia tried to confiscate his copy of the Book, took his case to the Supreme Court, and won.
*MrExposition: Tasker explains a lot about the beliefs of the Smithite faith in letters that mostly exist as vehicles for illustrating the religion.

!!Sen. Emerson Unferhow
An American politician from the Free American party who ran as the last gasp of the FA Party. At one point challenged President Banks in the convention and nearly unseated him, gaining 40% of the delegates at one point. In 1880, he and the Americans were walloped badly; they received less than 15% of the vote, effectively sounding the death knell of the Free American party.
