Fate/VRAINS

The Dead Face of LINK VRAINS

HAKUNO Kishinami

The black wraith who looks back in the mirror

The Alternate Self of Hakuno Kishinami from Fate/EXTRA: Last Encore.

He is "Frankenstein's Monster" — a collection of pieces made from all the grudges of the Masters killed by Twice H. Pierceman, with Hakuno Kishinami used as a base. He is a "Dead Face" — an existence different from that of a cyber ghost. However, he demonstrates remarkable self-control over his emotions.

  • Alternate Self: Plays this trope straighter than Hakuno does, as he is her male counterpart. His possession of Suzuka Gozen is also implies that his world followed events similar to CCC Fox Tail.
  • And I Must Scream: He's far more in control of his emotions than Julius seems to be, but he's still a Dead Face. Meaning all he should be capable of feeling is hate towards everyone and the world.
  • Came Back Wrong: He's essentially Last Encore's Hakuno Kishinami, but mixed together with the grudges and hatred of the Masters killed by Twice. This normally shouldn't be possible, since all negative emotions are filtered and released by the Moon Cell. Thanks to Twice shutting the Moon Cell down, this allowed for Dead Faces like Hakuno to exist.
  • Clone Angst: This is the big reason why he's after Hakuno. He wants to determine whether or not he's just a flawed copy or his own person. As he lays dying, Hakuno tells him that he is "Hakuno Kishinami, and no one else."
  • Dark Is Not Evil: As a Dead Face, his body is cloaked in black data that's constantly destroying and repairing itself. He is far from a villain, however, acting simply for his own interests.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Succumbs to his injuries, but ultimately accomplishes what he set out to do and dies beside Saber and Hakuno.
  • Evil Counterpart: He uses the Dead Cell archetype, which is filled with Gemini monsters. It's all but stated to be the "Dead Face" version of the Moon Cell archetype that Hakuno uses.
  • Go Out with a Smile: When Hakuno tells him that he is his own person, he smiles and finally passes on in peace.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Just as Hakuno cares about her Servant, HAKUNO cares deeply about Saber and entrusts her to his counterpart before he succumbs to his injuries. Saber has no qualms about this arrangement, as she considers both Hakuno Kishinami and HAKUNO Kishinami to be the same individual.
  • Mercy Kill: HAKUNO's defeat at Hakuno's hands can be considered this, since it means he can get his answers and die while Saber helps him pass on with peace.
  • Mythology Gag: Aside from Lu Bu, HAKUNO also employs a second Saber — none other than Suzuka Gozen, a character from the CCC manga adaptation Fox Tail.
  • The Power of Hate: Subverted. HAKUNO is actually in better control of his emotions than Julius is, able to feel something besides the always present hate.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: While his Dead Face is active, his eyes are red, making him appear all the more menacing. He's not entirely evil, though.
  • Vengeful Ghost: Downplayed. Unlike Julius, HAKUNO was naturally born as a Dead Face, but he lacks their overwhelming instinctual view of hatred towards the world and the living.

Fate/VRAINS - Laplace

    Kara Kuri

Kara Kuri

A Machine Monster specialist who challenges Aoi at the start of Laplace. He uses the Karakuri and Machiners/Machina archetypes.
  • Atrocious Alias: He literally named his avatar after the kind of cards he uses. Aoi lampshades this when she realizes he uses Machine monsters and seems to favor the Karakuri archetype.
  • Humongous Mecha: His ace monster, Machiners Gigant Lord, is described as such. Has another one in the form of Karakuri Great Shogun.
  • Starter Villain: He's not a villain, per say, but he is the first opponent introduced in the sequel.
