Main Characters

    Eon/Eona

A character subpage for the protagonist of Eon: Dragoneye Reborn

Eon (later Eona) is the main protagonist of the Dragoneye duology.

  • Achey Scars: Her malformed hip, which is constantly hinders her mobility in the first novel. She heals herself using her dragon at the end of the first novel.
  • Character Development: Becomes stronger throughout the novels through her struggle to gain her power and resist being consumed by it. She eventually reaches a full-on level of autonomy and no longer depends on others –ex. her master- for survival.
  • The Chosen One: Because Eona is female, the Mirror Dragon returns after decades of dormancy, setting the creation of the String of Pearls in motion.
  • Cool Sword: The ceremonial swords she receives from the city’s armsmaster are presumably hundreds of years old and belonged to her also-Mirror-Dragoneye-ancestor Kinra. They’re also seemingly imbued with Kinra’s emotions which are released when Eona touches them.
  • Femininity Failure: Forcibly. Masquerades as a young boy, not only for her safety but for that of her master’s as well.
  • Guile Heroine: With the help of her allies. She becomes a Dragoneye, a position intended exclusively for men. Eona manages to trick the imperial court into believing her to be male.
  • It Runs in the Family: Eona’s ancestress, Kinra, was revealed to have been a Mirror Dragoneye. It is also later revealed that she was involved in a similar love triangle between the then Rat Dragoneye Lord Somo and the Emperor. Kinra was truly in love with Lord Somo, a fact Lord Ido doesn’t fail to remind Eona of.
  • Older Than They Look: During the first novel, she masquerades as a twelve-year-old, when in reality she is sixteen.
  • One of the Boys: In book one, she is the only female out of the twelve Dragoneye candidates, and later the only female out of twelve Dragoneyes.
  • Pent-Up Power Peril: She tries to repress her femininity with herbs and various drugs in order to access her power, when in reality it was her gender which secured her power in the first place.
  • Protagonist Title: Eon, Eona.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: In the second novel, Eona must dress as a sort of courtesan to enter the captured royal palace. Moon Orchid, the woman responsible for Eona’s makeover, comments on her beauty. Both Prince Kygo and Lord Ido comment on her looks as well in both novels.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Somewhat true. She takes a liking to Prince Kygo the moment she meets him, first to his looks, then to his noble personality.
  • Sweet Polly Oliver: The whole premise of the first book. Eona masquerades as a man in hopes of becoming a Dragoneye to avoid being sold back into slavery. Very few know of her true gender: Her Master, as it is later revealed that he had Eona’s hip crushed to hinder her gait and mask her gender; Rilla, first as her friend and later as her body servant; Lady Dela and Ryko, after Eona reveals this to Dela, and she in turn reveals it to Ryko; Prince Kygo, after Eona tells him of her own free will; and Lord Ido, after he forcibly takes control of her mind.
  • Took a Level in Badass: She manages to almost defeat her much larger, experienced opponent in Eon, all while still lame in one leg.

    Prince Kygo/Emperor Kygo

  • Amazon Chaser: Chooses to pursue Eona, essentially the most powerful woman alive.
  • Back from the Dead: Almost. Almost dies once at the hands of Sethon, when the Imperial Pearl is ripped from his throat. Then once again, after Ido drives a sword through his back. He is saved both times by Eona.
  • Memento MacGuffin: Gives Eona his blood ring originally to deter Dillon and the black folio using blood power. It then becomes a memento of him, which she keeps with her.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: On Lord Ido. When the Dragoneye refuses to bow in book two, Kygo wastes no time in dishing out an unholy beatdown.
  • Revenge: Wants this against the man who killed his mother and baby brother, as well as his palace.
  • The Stoic: Unlike the others, he rarely express much emotion, unless he is with Eona.
  • Young and in Charge: Becomes Emperor and later head of the rebellion at the age of nineteen.

    Lord Ido

A character subpage for the antagonist and later anti-hero of Eon: Dragoneye Reborn

  • All in the Eyes: One of his defining physical traits is his eye color: a pale amber.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Textbook definition of this. As Rat Dragoneye, he serves as the Keeper of Ambition, a trait which ultimately destroys him. His every move is governed by it.
  • Back from the Dead: Almost. Almost dies from his wounds while in Sethon's possession, and later gets a lung pierced with an arrow. Eona heals him both times.
  • The Dreaded: Eona’s mentor warns her about Lord Ido before he even appears in the first novel.
  • I Can Change My Beloved: The opposite of this. He appears to have changed after Eona heals him, but reverts right back at the end of book two.
  • Mindlink Mates: Because Eona healed him in the first novel,he shares a link with her which allows them to converse while in the celestial plain.
  • Revenge: Doesn't hesitate to dish this out on High Lord Sethon by driving a knife through on of his hands before letting Eona deliver the killing blow.
  • Torture Always Works: High Lord Sethon learns the extent of Eona’s power after several days of torturing Lord Ido.
  • We Can Rule Together: Believes the he and Eona were meant to rule the empire together. He offers this to Eona just before he dies.
  • Younger Than They Look: Though he appears older to Eona, Momo reveals that he is only twenty-four.

    Lady Dela

    Ryko

  • Heroic Sacrifice: Allows Eona to drain his life force to break free of Sethon’s bonds.
