Aoi Yukimura
Voiced by: Yuka Iguchi
Our protagonist. She got a fear of heights, after she had a rough fall.- Butt-Monkey: She's been one since she was very young, courtesy of Hinata's antics. She's also usually the first one to suffer a setback when climbing, such as when she came down with altitude sickness during their Mt. Fuji trip in season two.
- Childhood Friends: She and Hinata went to elementary school together.
- Feminine Women Can Cook
- Ironic Fear: She loves mountain climbing, yet is afraid of heights. A big part of the series has her dealing with this fear while trying to fully enjoy the climbing hobby with her group of friends.
- Nice Girl: When she's not bickering with Hinata, she's very good-natured and treasures the experiences she has with her friends.
- Why Did It Have To Be Heights: She is deathly afraid of them. Her friends help her conquer that fear, though.
Hinata Kuraue
Voiced by: Kana Asumi
Aoi's friend from elementary school- Childhood Friends: She and Aoi went to elementary school together.
- The Gadfly: She gets a kick out of teasing Aoi and riling her up, much to Aoi's annoyance.
- Genki Girl: She's very energetic and boisterous.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She is prone to teasing Aoi often, but is always there for the other girls and especially Aoi when it counts. This is best shown after the Mt. Fuji arc, when she cheers up Aoi from her funk.
- Manic Pixie Dream Girl: She pulls Aoi back to climbing mountains despite the latter's fear of heights.
- Smarter Than She Looks: Hinata looks like a clueless, lazy girl, but she tutors younger kids and gets very good grades in school.
Kaede Saitou
Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa
The, more-or-less, big sister of the group.- Bespectacled Cutie: Despite the anime already being based on Generic Cuteness, her glasses still manage to add extra charm to her.
- Book Dumb: While she's very knowledgeable about mountain climbing and camping, her grades are very poor and she struggles with schoolwork.
- Character Tic: Kaede tends to stand with a hand her hip a lot.
- Cool Big Sis: To Aoi early in the first season.
- Dumber Than They Look: Kaede is a glasses-wearing upperclassman who has a smart, big-sisterly vibe about her. She knows a ton about mountain climbing and camping and is happy to take the younger girls under her wing and teach them all about the outdoors. Unfortunately while she might be smart about outdoor activities, she's a terrible student; her friend Yuuka says it's because she has nothing but mountains on her brain. Aoi learns this the hard way when she makes the mistake of asking Kaede for help with some math homework.
- Huge Schoolgirl: Only in the first season. In season two, she's barely taller than the other girls.
- Ms. Fanservice: Be it in her own bed or when visiting the others, Kaede has a self-admitted habit of relaxing in very-revealing homewear consisting of a sports bra and a pair of matching short tights that bare her midriff and show off her legs. Several shots of her lounging or sleeping in this attire could pass for male gaze, but it is all largely downplayed due to the innocent nature of the series.
- Smart People Wear Glasses: Inverted; she wears glasses and has a wise, big-sisterly vibe during club activities, but she's actually terrible at schoolwork.
