    Clay Noguchi

The protagonist of the comic. Clay is a senior in high school, and his main passion in life is theater. He's a Deadpan Snarker and can be quite blunt at times, but he cares deeply for his friends. He tries to act nonchalant about it, but he never truly got over Aron ditching him, and has remaining trust issues from it. Aside from theater, he also really likes anime.

    Aron Santos

The Deuteragonist of the comic, and Clay's former Childhood Friend and main Love Interest. He's a senior in high school, and on the varsity swim team. He's very easy going and friendly, but his insecurities usually get the best of him and lead to him making bad decisions in order to make people like him. He often doesn't think things through before he says them, leading to a lot of Open Mouth, Insert Foot moments. Like Clay, he also loves theater, but is worried about what people will say about him if he pursues it.

  • Red Oni: He is charismatic and high-spirited, a large contrast to Clay's quiet and serious Blue Oni.
  • Big Man on Campus: Aron is very popular and well liked, at the cost of not being able to be himself.
  • Book Dumb: He has the worst grades of the cast, putting in just enough effort so he can stay on the swim team.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Despite how goofy and easygoing he is about most things, he is a very committed swimmer and one of the best on the team.
  • Gay Guy Seeks Popular Jock: Inverted. Aron, who's the star member of the swim team is head over heels for Clay, the openly gay theater kid. Meanwhile, Clay vehemently denies any possibility that he has feelings for Aron.
  • Last Het Romance: For Quinn. They dated in middle school, and their relationship helped her realize that she was a lesbian.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: When Aron was in elementary school he was a very kind and sincere kid, but around the start of middle school he became very insecure about the way people perceived him. He completely changed the way he acted to fit in, and this led to him pushing away Clay, who didn't care about fitting in.
    Quinn Chung

One of Clay's friends, and Hana's girlfriend. She is ambitious and hardworking, with occasional Control Freak tendencies. She is a kind person and gives great advice, but has trouble balancing her relationships with other people with her need to succeed.

  • Academic Athlete: She has straight A's and is on the cheerleading squad.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She has a heavyset build, and as her girlfriend Hana would tell you, very pretty.
  • Book Smart: She's an academic overachiever determined to get into an ivy league college.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Downplayed. Her hair is cropped short, but she has swoopy bangs and pastel colored barrettes that add a feminine touch.
  • Brutal Honesty: When she's stressed out she tends to say whatever's on her mind, even if it hurts others.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: In flashback scenes she has shoulder length hair, whereas in the main story she has a pixie cut.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: She has a feminine sense of style and is in a committed relationship with her girlfriend Hana.
  • Student Council President: She's the head of her school's student council, something that causes her no shortage of stress.
  • True Blue Femininity: Her designated character color is blue and she's one of the girliest members of the cast.
    Hana Suzuki

One of Clay's friends, and Quinn's girlfriend. She's an energetic, hopeless romantic who tries to see the best in everyone. She's intensely loyal to the people she cares about, but sometimes worries that this loyalty won't be reciprocated.

  • Animal Motifs: Heavily associated with cats.
  • Genki Girl: She's very happy and excitable.
  • Genre Savvy: Despite being a character in a romance comic, she is very familiar with romance tropes and pointedly brings them up to Clay whenever he's being oblivious about Aron.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: She loves cats more than anything.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She wears a lot of cutesy outfits, almost all of which are pink.
  • Sequential Artist: She's the creator of a romance webcomic.
  • Shipper on Deck: Over the course of the comic she grows more and more exasperated that Clay seemingly hasn't (or is purposefully ignoring,) the overwhelming evidence that Aron has feelings for him. Once he finally does, she very enthusiastically tells him to shoot his shot.
  • Stepford Smiler: Despite being outwardly optimistic and cheery, she's quite insecure and worries about her friends and girlfriend finding her annoying and a burden. This is shown when she refuses to talk to Quinn about a fight they had, instead opting to ignore it entirely to keep up her happy, nonchalant facade.
    Alex Pham

  • Butt-Monkey: Downplayed. Out of all the characters he is most likely to be the butt of the joke, but it's usually good natured teasing amongst friends, and he often plays into it.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: He has a bizarre sense of humor that confuses people who aren't close to him, often referencing things that only he understands and talking in a way that makes conversation with him difficult to follow.
  • Girlfriend in Canada: Alex is in a long distance relationship with a girl he met online, but none of his friends are certain she's actually real. It doesn't help his case that despite promising his friends that she was coming to visit and go to the winter formal with him, she was conspicuously absent.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: He's had the least development out of the main cast and his main role in the story is to be silly and add levity between heavier scenes.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Clay.
    Erica Liú Rodríguez

  • All Girls Like Ponies: Erica went through a major horse phase when she was younger, to the point of having horse themed wall paper in her room
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She starts as a rude, callous popular girl, but overtime softens and befriends the rest of the cast.
  • Last Het Romance: For Aron. Aron had dated several girls before, but his relationship with Erica being unfulfilling happened to coincide with him developing feelings for Clay, which together made him realize he was gay.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: She puts up a cold exterior and can come off as mean, but this is mostly due to social pressure. Around people she's close with she can be very caring and considerate, albeit never fully losing her snark.
  • LGBT Awakening: Over the course of the comic she realizes and comes to terms with the fact that she's asexual.
  • Sixth Ranger: At the start of the comic she barely knows any of the other characters outside of Aron, but after their Amicable Breakup he invites her to come on various group outings with the rest of the cast.
