Sulist Federation

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sulist_federation_1.png

Official Name: Federação Sulistanote
Ruling Party: Partido Patriótico Conservadornote
Ideology: Dominant-Party Democracynote
Since Brazil was still a united country, there have been several separatist movements in what was the southern region of the country, which always used the pretext that the Brazilian government disrespected the southern identity, which is completely different from the rest of Brazil in cultural terms and applied high taxes. During the Civil War, the "The South is My Country" movement, financed by Argentina, formed a united front with other separatist movements and rebelled against Brazilian authority, declaring the independence of the Southern Federation in 2025.

Still during the civil war, the Argentines jointly occupied a large part of the Southern Region with the separatists, forcing both the Brazilian National State and the Democratic Republic of Brazil to sign a treaty ceding independence to the sulists and withdrawing all its armies in the region.

Currently, the Federation is one of the richest countries in South America, strong in tourism and agriculture, but there is increasingly growing dissatisfaction with the government, which is accused of being controlled by Argentina.

    General Tropes
  • Les Collaborateurs: The sulist government cooperates indiscreetly with large Argentine corporations, which earn a share of everything that sulists extract, sell or produce.
  • Anarchy Is Chaos: If the Sulist Crisis escalates, Douglas Aimoré's government is overthrown and the main political factions, warlords, brazilophile movements and megacorporations dispute control of the sulist territory.
  • Egopolis: Florianópolis, named in honor of Brazilian president Floriano Peixoto, was renamed Glienkeburgo by the founder of the Sulist Federation, Emílio Glienke.
  • Puppet State: Although it claims to be an independent country, the Federation has its sovereignty moderated by Argentina, that is, if a certain government goes against Argentine interests, the Argentine army has full permission to intervene and overthrow this government.
  • The Assimilator: Some important cities in the Federation, mainly tourist cities and with a large flow of Argentines, have adopted Spanish as their official language, and encourage children and teenagers in schools to learn Argentine customs.
  • Nostalgia Filter: The older people in the Federation were mostly Bolsonarists before and during the Brazilian Civil War, and they miss the time, even though they renounced their Brazilian identity.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Glienke and the South is My Country movement led a rebellion during the Brazilian Civil War, which only achieved its objective due to the disillusionment of the Bolsonarists in the region and the Argentine intervention, otherwise they would not have been defeated by the Brazilian army.
