Since Brazil was still a united country, there have been several separatist movements in what was the southern region of the country, which always used the pretext that the Brazilian government disrespected the southern identity, which is completely different from the rest of Brazil in cultural terms and applied high taxes. During the [[CivilWar Civil War]], the "The South is My Country" movement, financed by Argentina, formed a united front with other separatist movements and rebelled against Brazilian authority, declaring the independence of the Southern Federation in 2025.
Still during the civil war, the Argentines jointly occupied a large part of the Southern Region with the separatists, forcing both the Brazilian National State and the Democratic Republic of Brazil to sign a treaty ceding independence to the sulists and withdrawing all its armies in the region.
