Go To

The cast of characters from across the Chocobo series. While they do have different roles and sometimes personalities across their various appearances, they are generally all a Reused Character Design or something like "actors" in an anthology series.

For the characters specifically from Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon, view the character sheet here.

  • A Dog Named "Dog": He is a chocobo named Chocobo. However, he is sometimes called Poulet.
  • The Unintelligible: Despite other chocobos in the series being capable of speech, Chocobo can only communicate with Warks and Kwehs. Everyone else seems to understand him though.

    Camilla

Camilla

Camilla in Chocobo GP
A brown female chocobo who works on her father's farm. She has a passion for gardening and wishes to see the world covered in flowers.

  • The Cameo: She shows up in Every Buddy after falling into Lostime and losing her memories. When they are restored, she can be used as a Buddy in dungeons with the Chocobo Kick ability.
  • Fill It with Flowers: Her dream is to cover the world in flowers, and she states this is her wish she would make if she were to win the racing contest in Chocobo GP.
  • Green Thumb: She's talented at growing flowers.
  • His Name Really Is "Barkeep": Her father's name really is "Camilla's Pa". He's rather proud of the name.
  • Mistaken Identity: When she meets Chocobo in Every Buddy, she mistakes him for Poulet.

    Atla

Atla

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chocsd2mog_4.png
Formerly called Mog, Atla is Chocobo's friend and frequent traveling companion. A greedy treasure hunter who wishes to become the lead character.

  • Adaptation Name Change: He was called Mog until Every Buddy after which he was renamed Atla.
  • Butt-Monkey: He's sometimes on the receiving end of slapstick comedy. Half the time he ends up deserving it.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He does not hesitate to snark towards everyone around him. Especially in Chocobo GP.
  • Decomposite Character: Every Buddy and Chocobo GP split the original Chocobo series Mog into two characters, Mog and Atla. Both would have traits of the original, however, Atla takes on the original's role more directly while Mog mostly retains the attention seeker traits.
    • That said, in Chocobo GP Atla's greed is a central part of the story, while Mog takes on a "Racing Hero X" persona.
  • Dirty Coward: He'll occasionally try to get others to do things he's either too scared or lazy to do himself, though his greed occasionally gets him to take a more active role eventually.
  • It's All About Me: He's aware that Chocobo is the star of the game and does his best to have that role for himself. As of the Mog/Atla split, this trait is has mostly been assigned to Mog.
  • Medium Awareness: He's fully aware that his in a video game, and that its a spin-off series. He breaks the 4th wall frequently, especially in the racing games.
  • Shout-Out: His rename comes from the Moogle running the Mognet in Final Fantasy IX.
  • Unknown Rival: Chocobo is mostly oblivious to Atla's rivalry with him. No matter what the moogle does Chocobo is convinced that the two are best friends.

    Cid

Cid

Mr. Cid
Younger Cid
Mr. Cid appears in: Chocobo's Dungeon 2, Chocobo Racing, Every Buddy
Treasure Hunter Cid appears in: Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon/Every Buddy
Younger Cid appears in: Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales, Chocobo to Mahou no Ehon: Majo to Shoujo to Go-nin no Yuusha

A master mechanic and recurring character archetype from throughout the Final Fantasy series, with different appearances in the Chocobo games as well. There are three different Cids across the games: a short old man, a dashing treasure hunter, and a younger pretty-boy type.

For tropes concerning Treasure Hunter Cid, see here.

  • The Cameo: Like Shiroma, Camilla, and Atla, Mr. Cid appears in Every Buddy as an amnesiac who needs to get his memories restored. Shiroma refers to him as "Mr. Cid" to differentiate him from the Cid who is already in this game.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: As essentially all Cids in the Final Fantasy series are.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: Mr. Cid wears goggles on his head, presumably to demonstrate that he is a mechanic.
  • Wrench Whack: When used as a party member in the first Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon game, he uses a wrench.

    Shiroma

Shiroma

A female white mage and one of Chocobo's most loyal friends.

  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Her hair color changes from various shades of pink across her multiple appearances.
  • Decomposite Character:
    • Every Buddy has both Shiroma and Shirma in the game as separate characters, soldifying Shiroma as the one from Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon 2 and Shirma as the one from Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon. Shiroma has a more simplified character design, while Shirma has more detailed robes and staff. Her appearance in Every Buddy is as The Cameo, along with "Mr. Cid," Camilla, and Atla.
    • Chocobo Racing splits a character named "White Mage" and Shiroma, treating them as entirely separate characters.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": Her name is a slight mutation of "Shiroma" which literally translates to "White Mage".
  • The Cameo: She appears in Every Buddy. A white mage who looks quite a lot like her also appears in Mysidia in the 3D version of Final Fantasy IV, and the fight in the developers' room also indicates that her name actually is Shiroma.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: In some games she comes from a doomed future which she wishes to help save and eventually return to.
  • Only Sane Man: She frequently takes on the role of most mature out of Chocobo's friends, except for perhaps Cid.
  • White Mage: Her main job. She also acts as one when used as a Buddy in dungeons in Every Buddy, and functions exactly like Shirma does with a Cure ability.

    Kuroma

Kuroma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blackmage.png

A male Black Mage who is Chocobo's friend in some games, and an enemy in others.

  • Bookworm: In Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales, he is a young Black Mage (who resembles Vivi) who is always absorbed in his books and is focused on collecting them. It is his collection of books that ends up freeing Bebuzzu.
  • Decomposite Character: In the same way as Shiroma, Kuroma is sometimes an entirely different Black Mage named "Croma." Croma tends to be a female character with longer hair and without the shadowed face, and is a prominent character in Every Buddy!.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": Like Shiroma, Kuroma literally translates to "Black Mage."

    Irma

Irma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irma_81.png

A woman with an aggressive personality who is often depicted as Chocobo's rival. She is often partnered up with Volg, a black chocobo, and occasionally also has Jailbird followers.

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite often being antagonistic, she can often come through as an ally when it counts.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She tends to be more scantily clad than the other characters.
  • Split Personality: Some games depict her with a more meek, nervous side that switches to a more aggressive personality depending on the circumstances. In Every Buddy!, it's due to memory loss (and inverted from the usual). In Chocobo GP, she gets more aggressive and confident when she's behind the wheel.

    Chubby Chocobo

Chubby Chocobo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chocsd2chubby.png

A Fat Chocobo who helps Chocobo whenever he appears, often as a shopkeeper or as a guide in tutorials. He has colorful plumage on his chest that helps him stand out from other Fat Chocobos. In Chocobo GP, he is given the name Clair.

  • Big Eater: In his original appearances he is depicted with a voracious appetite.
  • Gender-Blender Name: His name in Chocobo GP, Clair, is typically a feminine name.
    Behemoth

Behemoth

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chocsd2behemoth.png

A Behemoth who sometimes appears as an enemy to Chocobo, occasionally as just a generic enemy throughout certain dungeons but sometimes in a larger role. In Chocobo GP, he is given the name Ben.

  • The Brute: When he is an enemy, he is depicted as rather brutish and unintelligent.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He is often depicted with a short temper, particularly in Chocobo GP, but once he's beaten in a race and joins the party he softens up to the others.
  • You No Take Candle: In Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales, he is under Irma's control due to her black crystal and he speaks with poor grammar. When he is freed, he turns out to be rather eloquent.
