Dr. Steve Brule
Actor: John C. Reilly
Doctor Steven "Steve" Brule is the eponymous host of Check It Out!
- Comically Cross-Eyed: This happens to Steve whenever he takes off his glasses.
- Characterization Marches On: When first introduced in Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, Steve was awkward and not suited for being on TV but he at least seemed like someone who could function in society. Come this series, and Steve is the dumbest man on the planet.
- The Ditz
- Hilariously Abusive Childhood: He was subjected to comically specific punishments like being kept in a cage and being fed raisins.
- The Klutz: He's suffered numerous injuries due to his clumsiness on the show, such as briefly being comatose after slipping on a skateboard, nearly slicing his finger off while pumpkin carving, burning his face when his tie gets caught in a car's engine, and getting a bloody gash on his head after tripping onstage.
- Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Steve often acts like the absolute authority on whatever subject he's discussing, which is at odds with the fact that he has no understanding or expertise in any of it, becoming defensive whenever anyone contradicts him.
- Manchild: Steve is one par excellence. He is extremely immature and has no idea of how a normal person should behave in... well, frankly any social situation.
- Misspelling Out Loud: In a spelling bee against a bunch of children, his word is "ham." He spells it H... A... S-S-S-S-P-P-P-P. In the same episode, he proclaims Words to be spelled as Wors.
- Simpleton Voice: His normal speaking style is slurred, halting, and full of mispronunciations.
- Suspect Is Hatless: When giving a description of Denny to a police sketch artist, he's giving very vague and unhelpful descriptors like "a pig-rat boy" and calling his beard a "caterpillar."
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Puppets- sorry, "pruppets" are Steve's worst nightmare.
Scott Clam
Actor: Scott Stewart
Scott Clam, the bird-loving clam seller, is selected by Steve as his replacement when he gets arrested.
- Idiotic Partner Confession: He tells a police detective unprompted that he saw Steve put poisonous powder on Denny's sandwich.
- Knightof Cerebus: While himself not malicious, his segments are this, due in part to the *heavy* distortion and audio glitches present on screen.
- Mirthless Laughter: Has a habit of laughing after his sentences, usually in the most creepiest way possible.
- Non-Indicative Name: Downplayed. While he is an expert in Clams, as the man himself puts it:Scott:But my true love is birdies, heeheeheeheehee.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: When he takes over the show, he repeatedly snaps at David Liebe Hart for talking out of order during his interview.
Carol Krabit
Actor: Carol Kraft
Carol Krabit is another Channel 5 newscaster, frequently appearing as host of the segments "Your Fortune" and "Yesterday's Weather."
- Now You Tell Me: Needless to say, reporting on yesterday's weather is incredibly useless.
- Strangely Specific Horoscope: Just about every fortune she gives is bizarrely specific.
Doug Prishpreed
Actor: Doug Foster
An anchor for Channel 5. He usually provides sports updates.
- Hand Signals
- Running Gag: Almost all of the events he reports on are Annual.
Terry Bruge-Hiplo
Actor: Robert Axelrod
Another Anchor for Channel 5, who usually reports breaking news or a variety of other topics.Denny
Actor:Albert Hartfeld
Steve's cameraman.- The Voiceless: Has yet to have a speaking part in the show.
Doris Pringle-Brule-Salahari
Actress: Nancy Munoz
Dorris Brule (née Pringle), later Dorris Salahari, is Dr. Steven Brule's mother. Although old and frail, it's clear from her behavior and Steve's stories of his childhood that she was incredibly abusive to him as a child.
- Abusive Parents: Incredibly so. She regularly forced Steve to sleep in a cage in a basement full of cats with only raisins for food until he was at least 15 years old.
- Closet Punishment: According to Steve, one of the things she'd most frequently yell at him was to get in the cage.
- Parental Neglect: Unlike with Steve, she is completely inattentive to her second son with Mobin.
- Freudian Excuse: She claims that the desire to keep Steve from knowing his younger brother is because she had a dream where the baby looked just like Steve, so she killed it rather than bring another Steve into the world.
- Jerkass: Even in the modern day, she continues to judge and berate Steve.Doris: *When talking to Steve, fresh out of a coma* I wish you never came out of that coma, you Dumb-Dumb.
- Til Murder Do Us Part: She said she once considered murdering her husband and Steve, then stuffing and mounting their heads so they could never leave her.
- Trash of the Titans: Her first home is filled nearly to the ceiling with piles of trash, heavily suggesting she's a compulsive hoarder.
Mobin Salahari
Actress: Joseph Makkar
Mobin is Dorris Pringle-Brule-Salahari's second husband and the father of Steve's half-brother, who is revealed to have committed suicide by the events of Season 3.
- Driven to Suicide: Evidently, being married to Dorris and raising their child took its toll on him.
- Hanging Around: His fate is revealed when he's just seen hanging in the background of his and Dorris's apartment.
- Henpecked Husband: Already depressed and submissive when he's with Dorris, her moving into his apartment pushes him to the brink.
- No Accounting for Taste: What he sees romantically in an abusive elderly hoarder is beyond comprehension.
- Suicide is Shameful: Steve explains his suicide as simply "Mobin couldn't hack it."
Pablo Myers
Actor: Pablo Pumphrey
A local businessman and the owner of Myers Super Foods, which advertises heavily on Check it Out!- Cordon Bleugh Chef: Many of Toad's Combo Cans. Chicken and Eggshell salad, anyone?
- Creepy Monotone: The act of speaking itself seems painful for old Pablo.
- Knightof Cerebus: There's something just... off about him.
- The Endis Nigh: On Stevie!, he proclaims that the world is coming to an end in about 480 days.Steve: ''Oh, so we got a little bit of time..."
