This page is for listing the tropes related to characters who appeared in the web series Beluga.
Main Characters
Beluga
The naïve titular protagonist of this series. His profile picture is that of the "polite cat" meme.
- Book Dumb: Is not the smartest and constantly gets bad grades, yet is usually able to outsmart his foes.
- Cant Get Away With Nothing: Sometimes, his plans can backfire.
- Clueless Chick-Magnet: Has gotten the attentions of Skittle-chan, Snowie, and Pepper. However, he seems to be unaware of this, and many videos have him lamenting his perceived lack of romantic prospects.
- Cute Kitten: His profile picture is a smiling "polite cat".
- Depending on the Writer: How lucky is he? He's either lucky without trying or his plans never work.
- A Dog Named "Cat": He's a cat named Beluga. Lampshaded occasionally.
- The Ditz: Is not the brightest cat, to say the least.
- Jerkass Ball: The ball was thrown to him when he and Skittle pulled a prank on their substitute teacher. They switched names, then he got Skittle into trouble by making the teacher call his parents. Skittle gets revenge, though, by making Beluga get held back.
- Laser-Guided Karma: In one skit, he tries to use a sick note to skip an exam. It works, but while he was gone, the class played Kahoot, Elon Musk took everyone to the moon, Mr Beast gave everyone 10,000$, and they watched a movie with pizza. The test was also moved to the next day when Beluga was in school.
- Momma's Boy: Normally gets along with his mother.
- Unexplained Recovery: Is shown to be alive and well right after being kidnapped by Lester. No explanation is ever given for how he escaped.
Skittle/skittle-chan
Beluga's best friend who frequently disguises himself as the avatar "skittle-chan".
- Ambiguous Situation: Skittle-chan still appears while Skittle was supposedly still missing after being kidnapped by lester, despite the former having previously been established as just an alter-ego of the latter.
- Indeed, whether or not Skittle and Skittle-chan are even the same person becomes more ambiguous later on, with the exact answer seemingly depending on what would be funniest at any given time.
- Betty and Veronica: Skittle-chan is the Betty to Snowie's Veronica and Beluga's Archie.
- Disguised in Drag: Frequently disguises themselves as Skittle-chan, with a cute anime girl avatar. This usually tends to sway the mods to Skittle's side although it also can backfire and get them kidnapped, and a good few later antagonists aren't swayed by the cute girl avatar at all.
- Satellite Love Interest: Sometimes, Skittle-chan's role in a video can be crushing over Beluga.
- Unexplained Recovery: Skittle-chan was once killed by Ms. White for answering incorrectly. She still shows up without any explanation.
Hecker
Beluga's other friend; a hacker with an array of skills and the avatar of a caracal cat.
- Insistent Terminology: They don't hack anything, they heck it. Extends to other characters' interactions with them as well.
- Hollywood Hecking: The poster child for this trope in the series. They can heck anything as long as it's electronic, even non-computerized systems that aren't online.
- Unpleasant Animal Counterpart: Their avatar is that of a caracal cat, which tend to be more feral compared to Beluga's housecat.
- With Friends Like These...: Though they're genuine friends, this doesn't stop Hecker from being malicious towards Beluga in several videos.
Moderators
- Big Bad Ensemble: They're usually the antagonists in any video they appear in.
- The Comically Serious: All of the moderators are this to a certain extent.
- Scare Chord: Often accompanies them showing up in a video.
Pablo
A double-bearded moderator and frenemy of Beluga as well as the head of Pablo's Pub. He is a big stickler for the rules
- A Day in the Limelight: Has gotten a few:
- The girlfriend episode, where he falls in love with Beluwuga (Beluga's female alter-ego) and tries every trick in the book to get "her" affections.
- "Discord Raids Be Like:", where he tries to stop a raid en masse by Beluga impostors while the real Beluga is chatting with Pepper.
- Fat Bastard: What he was initially; he's got a lot of weight and is pretty ban-happy. Nowadays, how much of a jerk varies Depending on the Writer.
- Friendly Enemy: In later episodes with Beluga.
- Love Makes You Dumb: Of the three main mods, Pablo is the most likely to get catfished and make mistakes, such as accidentally transferring the ownership of his server to Skittle and Lester on two separate occasions, or allowing Hecker and Beluga to Trojan horse him during a hacking contest between the three.
Lester
The morbidly obese mod of Lester's Minivan.
- Big Bad: The closest thing the series had for one after kidnapping Skittle.
- Catchphrase: Likes to greet people with "Sweetie."
- Fat Bastard: He's very obese and a creepy, lusty Jerkass, even ascending to the series' main antagonist before Villain Decay set in.
Eugene
A mod with an egg-shaped head. Beluga frequently mocks him by pointing this out, much to his ire.
Pablo's neurotic son whom the latter teaches how to be a Discord mod.
- Character Death: Died after seeing Minion memes on a Discord server and is never seen again.
A mod who resembles Peter Griffin (or the famous Peter cosplayer, Robert Franzese) and preaches the unholy gospel of Discord Light Mode.
An officious, egotistical admin.
Beluga's teacher, who often comes up with ridiculous challenges to "teach" his students, usually involving Kahoot!
- The Comically Serious: Seems to genuinely believe his absurd challenges, assignments and quiz questions are a perfectly legitimate method of teaching.
- Sadist Teacher: Shows signs of this.
- Serious Business: He once stressed that the most important question on one of his Kahoot! quizzes was whether or not pineapple goes on pizza. (The correct answer was yes.)
- Skewed Priorities: Most of his assignments and quiz questions are related to memes and/or video games.
Ms. White
Beluga's strict substitute teacher. Unlike Walt, her way of teaching doesn't involve Kahoot.
- Distaff Counterpart: She isn't that different from Walt as they're both strict towards Beluga.
- Sadist Teacher: Just like Walt, she shows signs of this, usually for petty reasons.
Other Characters
Another member of the Discord server, and a rival to skittle-chan for Beluga's affections.
- Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Skittle-chan's Betty and Beluga's Archie.
Beluga's son.
- Ambiguously Absent Parent: It's unknown who exactly Beluga Jr.'s mother is.
- Cheerful Child
- Teen Pregnancy: Might be the result of one considering Beluga is still in High School.
Beluga's mother who alternates between being a caring parent and downright psychotic.
- Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Her profile picture is the same as Beluga's, with the only additions being a pair of pink glasses and "Karen" hair.
A stereotypical clueless Facebook mom with a fondness for unfunny Minion memes who somehow stumbles onto Discord, but quickly turns out to be more than she seems...
- Random Species Offspring: In "Discord Mod VS Facebook Mom", she claims to be Skittle's mother, although it's unsure if she's telling the truth or not
An argumentative Flat-Earther.
- Grammar Nazi: Combined with Insane Troll Logic. He instantly declares himself the victor of an argument against Beluga just because Beluga made a single spelling error.
- Hypocrite: They're a bot who is made to deter bots from a server.
- Pyrrhic Victory: They succeed at banning Beluga from the Fortnite Club after he fails the anti-bot tests... but not before getting Rick Rolled by Beluga's own captcha test.
A Russian user whom Beluga often bumps into.
- Commie Land: Has an old-school Soviet mindset, often enforcing Communist policies, and also wears a Soviet Union hat in is profile pic.
- New Job as the Plot Demands: Has had various occupations in the episodes he's appeared in, though is usually in some position of authority.
- Russian Reversal: Is often involved in (or the butt of) these types of jokes.
A newer (allegedly) female user that's become another target of Beluga's affection.
- Characterization Marches On: In her first appearance, she doesn't tolerate Beluga or his ways to win her affection. In subsequent videos, however, she never stops telling her friends about how much she loves Beluga.
