Characters / Ask Chara and Friends

Go To

This page lists tropes for all characters appearing in Ask Chara and Friends. Some of which are native to Undertale and some of which were taken from Ask Frisk and Company.

Since ACAF is an Alternate Universe of not only Undertale but the aforementioned Ask Frisk and Company, there will be unmarked spoilers below for both. You have been warned.

     The Chara Household

Chara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/acaf_chara.PNG
The human child in charge of the blog. One year ago they fell into Mt. Ebbott and through many trials and tribulations, managed to free the monsters that had been trapped inside it. Now they live on the surface with an assortment of close monster friends. Though a realist, they are determined to help their friends in this new world.
  • All-Loving Hero: Downplayed. While they show nothing but unconditional love for their monster friends and family, they put humanity under a much more skeptical lens. A few times they even allude to not liking the fact that they themselves are human, though they brush this off as a joke right after saying it.
  • Berserk Button: The mere suggestion that white chocolate is real chocolate can send them spiraling into an outraged rant.
  • The Determinator: They're dead-set on helping monsterkind reestablish itself on the surface and to save Tem/Monster Kid.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: A regular human infused with magic after they passed the barrier.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Their eyes glow red whenever they use magic. They also seem to light up when Chara is especially mad about something.
  • Shipper on Deck: They strongly root for Papyrus to act on his crush on Hapstablook. They also show a great deal of interest in Undyne's and Alphys' relationship.

Papyrus

A lanky skeleton with a love for puns, lollipops and Hapstablook.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: He has ha pretty obvious crush on Hapstablook, but lacks the courage to act on it.
  • Nervous Wreck: He's pretty quick to doubt and second-guess himself when faced with setbacks or problems. Popping in a lollipop seems to help somewhat.
  • Promoted to Parent: He raised Sans after their father died and their mother disappeared.

Sans

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/acaf_sans.PNG
Papyrus's younger brother. A magnificent little ball of sunshine who loves the stars.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While he's usually a very fun person to be around, he can be kind of petty and can hold a grudge like nobody's business. When Hermann returns from the void, he makes some pretty biting comments on her absence for most of the brothers' childhood.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: "Blueberry". He thinks it's a name for "baby bones", so he doesn't really like being called by it when an asker suggests it. Amusingly enough, Hermann later reveals that it really used to be his nickname as a child. Sans is kinda creeped out that the askers know about it.
  • The Pollyanna: He's always cheerful and bouncy. Nothing really seems to get him down for long.
  • Pungeon Master: He just loves making bad puns.

Hermann

The former Royal Scientist, who was lost in the void due to her experiments. Papyrus manages to bring her back to the real world at the start of the comic.
  • Buttmonkey: Is on the receiving end of a lot of slapstick comedy and some scathing comments from Sans.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Her sentences are littered with Spanish words and phrases.
  • Missing Mom: Has been absent for a large part of her sons' lives, though she continued watching over them from the void.

     Other Monsters

Asriel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/acaf_asriel.PNG
A small goat-monster and Chara's proud partner in crime.
  • Everyone Can See It: Granted, that's because most of the askers already know a lot of the story-beats from AFAC, but even without that it's pretty obvious from the get-go that he's hardcore crushing on Chara.
  • Identical Stranger: Despite being the same species of monster as Toriel and Asgore and bearing an almost uncanny resemblance to both of them, he's apparently not their son in this AU.

The Riverperson

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/acaf_riverperson.PNG
The mysterious boatsman(?) of the Underground's only ferry.
  • In the Hood: Wears an all-encompassing cloak with a hood that covers his face.

     Other Beings

Askers

The mysterious entities from beyond the fourth wall. They send the main cast questions by way of the interdimensional rift behind the couch and Chara's in-universe ask blog.
  • Fourth-Wall Mail Slot: Becoming an asker is easy. You merely have to send an ask via the blog's Askbox and hope that it will be incorporated into the story or answered by miamouse herself.
  • The Omniscient: Downplayed, but askers have the uncanny ability to predict certain events in the story (like Asriel being at the door) and knowing details about the characters' pasts they shouldn't (like Sans being nicknamed "Blueberry" in his childhood). Out of universe, this is both a mixture of knowing Undertale-lore and -fanon and most askers having migrated over from Ask Frisk and Company, which has the same premise and some of the same story beats.
  • Shipper on Deck: The askers are immediately very on-board about Chara and Asriel dating when Asriel shows up at Chara's door.

Frisk

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/acaf_frisk.PNG
The very first human to fall down Mt. Ebbott. A mischievous and vengeful ghost, out to cause trouble for Chara and their family.
  • Big, Stupid Doodoo-Head: Being a child and all, they're not really very articulate with their insults. In one of the questions addressed to them, they call the asker a dumb-dumb.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Like their canon counterpart, they keep their eyes closed most of the time.
  • Jerkass: They refuse to stop eavesdropping on Chara and their friends and calls the asker who told them to stop a "dumb-dumb". They also obviously plan on doing something nasty to Chara and Chara's family and mock the askers who beg them not to.
