Awesome / The Story of Perrine

Go To

  • In Episode 4, Perrine and Marie are sheltering a Croatian rebel, hoping that the Austrian soldiers who'd already inspected their (then empty) carriage won't do so again. When the soldiers are about to search their carriage anyway, Perrine comes up with a convincing lie on the spot to stop them from doing so.
  • Episode 10:
    • Even though her mother tells her off for it afterward, Perrine shows that she has some bite to her when some rival photographers accuse Marie of being an unskilled photographer who attracts customers solely by dressing up in her sari. Perrine points out that the other photographers' sample photo is actually slightly out of focus (and would have gone on to list more flaws if Marie hadn't cut her off), leading the onlookers to consider them phony photographers.
    • Marcel overhears the rival photographers plotting to steal Marie's camera, so he works with the innkeeper to catch them in the act. What's more, he removes the camera from the carriage ahead of time, so the photographers had no chance of stealing it even if they'd escaped.
    • Marie demonstrates her principles by coming up with a cover story for the rival photographers, telling everyone that they'd actually entered the carriage because they'd wanted to have a discussion with her and had assumed she was there. The photographers are so grateful to her for saving them from punishment that they agree to change their travel route as to not get in her way any longer.
  • After a disingenuous baker steals Perrine's money, claiming it to be counterfeit, some melon farmers help her get it back by getting the baker to confess in front of Perrine and threatening to ruin the baker's reputation if she doesn't return the money.
  • Baron saving Perrine's life by running for help when she collapses. Despite being rebuffed by most of the people he approaches, he is fortunate enough to run into Palikare and La Rouquerie, who promptly bring Perrine to a hospital.
  • The entire arc in which Perrine manages to survive by herself in a lakeside hunter's hut on a manual laborer's wages, making her own utensils and clothes as well as collecting much of her own food. She's even successful enough to prepare meals for guests, as she does when Rosalie, Paul, and Fabry visit. The three of them are suitably impressed.
  • Although most of it occurs offscreen, Phillip's investigation into whether Perrine is Vulfran's grandchild is quite impressive. He collects two pieces of relevant information from Perrine (the name of her dog and the fact that Baron was already accompanying her while she was in Paris) before he even sets off. By the time he returns to Maraucourt, all he needs to do to confirm Perrine's identity is to watch her reaction when he mentions Palikare.
