Awesome moments in The Raven & the Owlet

As a moments subpage, all spoilers from the show will be unmarked. You Have Been Warned!

Chapter 1

  • Luz manages to escape from the Emperor's best guard while carrying Eda's body on Owlbert. Lilith, who is not particularly keen on seeing her sister's body desecrated, doesn't lift a finger to stop her.

Chapter 3

  • Amity actually intimidates Lilith by threatening to use her family's influence to make Lilith's life hell if she does anything to harm Luz or her friends.

Chapter 5

  • At the bank, Lilith gets into an argument with the teller because her account has been locked. When two guards come to escort her out, she gives them a Death Glare so intense that they both leave without question, and when Luz finally drags her outside Lilith proceeds to vent her emotion with a massive pillar of fire that sets several nearby buildings alight.

Chapter 8

  • Bump removes Eda from the official record as Luz's guardian to protect Luz from the Emperor's Coven.

Chapter 10

  • When Luz is pinned by the Topiary guardian, Willow manages to crush it in a massive spire of plants to protect her. Keep in mind that the guardian is a Nigh-Invulnerable Implacable Man.
  • Lilith, in all her Mama Bear glory, arrives just as Luz is despairing over having caused the deaths of her friends. Within seconds she has located the invisible Gus and Willow, used Morrigan as a medium to create a shield around them, teleported herself, King, and Luz over to them, and healed Willow's wounds, before stepping out to confront the demon hunters. Even Luz, for all her dislike of Lilith, is relieved at seeing her, and knows that everything will be okay.

Chapter 11

  • Lilith takes out the entire mercenary group in seconds, killing the four snipers by catching their crossbow bolts and sending them back at them, and scaring the rest of them with a Badass Boast. The survivors, even the tough guy leader, are too scared to do anything but run away.
"I am Lilith Clawthorne, the most powerful witch alive. These children are under my protection! Anyone who attempts to harm them will spend their last moments begging for death. As for you, if I ever see any of you in Bonesborough, I will paint the town with your blood."
  • In the first chapter, Lilith bade a poor showing for her former apprentice by letting Amity constrain her with an abomination and toss her out in the mud. She makes up for it when Amity tries to threaten her into letting her see Luz; She taps her staff to the ground once to dispel her spell circle, and tells her as an aside to pick her battles better.

Chapter 12

  • When Luz accidentally unleashes a rogue abomination and freezes up from the trauma from the Arboretum. Boscha saves her life by pushing her out of the way, getting knocked unconscious against a wall for her trouble.
  • It's mentioned offhandedly that Luz was teamed up with Boscha because they're the best in their class, to the point of learning potions so far above their level that even Lilith is impressed.

Chapter 13

  • Lilith plays Odalia and Alador like a fiddle, scamming them out of 20,000 snails for literal garbage by playing on Odalia's soft spot for Alador's pleading.

Chapter 15

  • Luz becomes a bit of a sarcastic smartass after making up with Lilith, getting in a few good digs at her for her actions and countering a lot of her propaganda-based fascism.
  • Dell gets Lilith to consider Luz's hypothetical about Belos lying about the Day of Unity, reminding his daughter that she came to him for advice and now he's giving it to her.

Chapter 16

  • Hooty, making up for letting Lilith knock him out, ties her up as King gets ready to fire a harpoon at her for double-crossing them and Luz.
  • Doubling as a funny moment, Amity slaps Lilith hard enough to leave a mark on her cheek for trying to force Luz back into the Human Realm and steal the portal.
  • When facing the Emperor, Luz is terrified but still stands tall and declares that she will not give over the portal door unless he can guarantee Lilith's safety. When the Emperor makes it clear that is not an option, but that he is willing to give her knowledge and free passage between worlds, Luz doesn't hesitate for a moment before running. Whatever the difficult relationship between them, Luz will not let Lilith die, and the chapter ends with her rushing out of the Emperor's study while yelling her guardian's name.

Chapter 17

  • After Lilith states that she promised Luz they would leave safely, Hunter incredulously asks if she would turn against the Emperor and the very Titan itself, which she has dedicated her entire life to, just to keep a promise to some human whelp. Lilith's response is clear;
    "Yes."
    • She goes on to state that looking after Luz has given her life more meaning than decades of serving the Emperor's will, and if any of the ten witches gathered to stop her try to intervene, she will not hesitate to kill them.
  • In her opening move of the battle Lilith takes Osran out of commission with a single strike, having expected him to block it but calculating the trajectory so it would hit him in the head from a different angle. Hooty then takes out Graye, tying him up and knocking him unconscious before he can react, and Eda uses her ghostly chill to prevent Terra from acting. All in all, they work as a well-oiled machine.
    • With hindsight, it becomes clear that Darius, Eberwolf, and Raine were using the excuse of not being used to fight in crowds to take out the attacks Lilith didn't have any counter for before they could hit her, all under the guise of trying to kill her themselves.
    • When an attack sends them all flying, Lilith's first instinct is to hold Luz close to protect her from the impact. She meant it when she said that looking after Luz gave her life meaning.
  • Belos claims that he's disappointed in Lilith, since he was about to forgive her and return her to the coven. Having already broken through her indoctrination, Lilith tells him to cut the crap, and when he demands that Luz hand over the portal, she outright attacks him. It does nothing to him, but shows how far Lilith has come and how much of a Mama Bear she is towards Luz.
Lilith: Clearly, I have no chance of regaining his favor and he would see me killed, so to hell with him.
  • Refusing to let Lilith deliver the portal to Belos or let her die if she doesn't, Luz decides to Take a Third Option like she suggested in Chapter 16, which ends up being destroying the portal right after Belos gets his hands on it.
Luz: Hey Belos! I don't like people making my choices for me.
  • While the presence of the head witches derailed it, the rest of the escape plan still goes off without a hitch; With Gus hiding them, Amity and Willow create pandemonium in the castle hallway with their magic, knocking out a few guards and giving Steve plausible deniability for dropping a pile of sleep potions that knocks out the guards, who are then tied up by the kids, giving Luz and co free passage when they escape. Particular credits go to Steve, who's loyalty to Lilith was great enough that he committed outright treason for her sake, especially after hearing that she's doing it for Luz.

Chapter 18

  • Lilith's training, with Eda's tutelage, consists of focusing all her power in a small point before blasting it outwards. The result is a massive pillar of fire that both impresses and terrifies Luz.
  • In the show, the owl family had to juryrig a creative method to deal with the guardian of King's castle. In the fic, Lilith still has her full power so she simply picks it up with telekinesis and smashes it under a pile of rocks. It doesn't keep it down for long due to its Healing Factor, but when the gang needs to get past it again she simply freezes it in place with the same telekinesis. As powerful as Jean-Luc may be, it is nothing compared to Lilith.

Chapter 19

  • Time will tell if it has any effect, but Lilith does make it clear to Odalia, a woman with enough influence to ruin her, that the way she has treated her children is completely unacceptable and that she needs to be better. She has no patience for Odalia's pathetic excuses either.

Chapter 20

  • Upon learning that Gus, Willow, and Viney are all in on the Side Bet about when Luz will confess her feelings for Amity, Luz is pissed and swears righteous vengeance. She does this so seriously that Gus considers if he's made a mistake.

Chapter 24

  • While the Banshees lose their first game since their formation, Luz's performance in scoring their last point was a thing of beauty.

Chapter 26

  • Within two years of graduating from Hexside, Petra was able to seize control of the potions industry in Bonesborough and Latissa. It ended up supplanting local businesses and damaging Arends Pharmaceuticals' reputation, but that's one hell of an accomplishment for a 20-year old woman.
  • It takes the use of her newly discovered wind glyph for Luz to catch the Rusty Smidge in the game against Bunion Bay High, which gets the win for the Banshees. After all the hard work she put in and dealing with being treated as the weak link by her opponents for the past three games, Luz single-handedly gets the team's first game win of the season.
  • Luz does what everyone has been telling her is impossible from the start; she befriends Boscha. What's more, it's Boscha's encouragement that finally pushes Luz to confess her feelings to Amity.

Chapter 27

  • Lilith, at Eda's suggestion, gets back at Darius for tampering with her coffee mug by casting illusions of clown clothes all over his entire wardrobe.
  • Back in Chapter 20, Luz vowed to make everyone who was betting on when she told Amity she liked her pay by making sure Hooty was filthy enough to make them regret it. She made good on her word in a massive way by having Hooty set off two different explosions that made a torrent of mud and water from the woods completely coat the Owl House as well as the surrounding area in filth. While she had tried to stop it, this proves that despite being a Nice Girl who never resorts to revenge, Luz really can deliver payback.
    • There's also the matter of Lilith and King making sure they pulled out of the bet in order to weasel out of cleaning duty. This may make them Karma Houdinis for making the original bet in the first place and letting it spiral out of control, but they knew when to cut their losses.

Chapter 28

  • Through their unintentional teamwork, Raine and Lilith kill Terra Snapdragon, the oldest and most lethal Coven Head.

Chapter 29

  • Raine shows a great deal of restraint and maturity in limiting her vengeance on Lilith over Eda to just a punch in the face (which was incredible in and of itself). While they admit they could and should do worse (something Lilith agrees with), they are quick to move past it so they can discuss how to handle the Day of Unity.
  • Once the Owl Crew finds the super glyph in King's tower, they reactivate it, animating two more creatures like Jean-Luc, and giving King another pair of subordinates.

Chapter 30

  • Evelyn has managed to spend a long time chasing after Philip Wittebane and copied everything in his entire journal, effectively stealing his plans to make a portal door which she gives to Luz and Lilith.

Chapter 32

  • Idiotic and life-threatening as it was, Luz ducks under a saw in order to get the grudgby ball before her opponent, scoring the tiebreaking point that won the Banshees the game that guaranteed their advancement to the playoffs.
  • While Luz and Lilith end up getting injured, they successfully create a new portal door to the Human Realm by powering it with the super glyph combo they discovered.
  • Sylvie manages to heal Luz's severely burnt arm by creating a potion that eliminates the damaged flesh and repairs it and the bones. The pep talk she gives Boscha so she'll be able to assist her also deserves props.

Chapter 34

  • While Luz is still chewed out by Vee over her basically running away from home and having a "good life" with Camila, Luz doesn't just lie down and take it; she fires back and tells Vee that she suffered from having no friends growing up so to her, the Boiling Isles is as much of a paradise to her as the Human Realm is to Vee. While it came out more severely than Luz intended, Vee immediately becomes ashamed of what she said and apologizes.
