The NDL can quite legitimately be described as a universe full of badass, with awesome as par for the course (or possibly eaten for breakfast). However, there are still some moments where characters who are consistently awesome take it to a whole new level. These are the moments of legend.

- Malali is essentially being crushed in a battle against The Executioner. Does she give up? Hell no. She buys herself time and then uses her dragon-scale sword to summon the last dragon of Lar instead. Even for Malali, who saves universes in her spare time, this was a whole new level of awesome.
- Speaking of Malali, in the novel-length A Night of Death, The Deathknight has more or less defeated the duelists that were gathered to stop him. His victory seems imminent, and all that's left is his arch-nemesis, Malali. Speak of the devil, the Nightelf herself promptly screams a battle cry and charges towards The Deathknight, riding a goddamn tornado over his castle to reach him, while holding up Kaavel, which is now on fire.
- Maxwell is an animated stuffed toy Idiot Hero who eats, sleeps and breathes Rule of Funny. Thus, when he calmly cleaves The Beast in two without taking his eyes off The Writer in the final chapter of "Adventures in Hammerspace", it's a definite sign that things have gotten real. This is shortly followed by him holding up his sword to block the Light of Creation, which is basically a supercharged beam of death, splitting it to either side without so much as moving.
- When a hunter places his sights on Crysis, he is quickly disabled by Zone. Zone then chillingly explains just how much of a monster the hunter is, lets the man know that his paralysis will cause him to die, and leaves him to his fate.
- During The Antarctic Incident, The Executioner, normally the dominant force in a fight even in the NDL, is losing to The Macross. The huge machine has beaten The Executioner back and is slowly but surely crushing it underneath its leg. Cue Malali and Nae'blis interfering, and all three setting aside their considerable differences to take down The Macross.
- As part of the above, after recovering, The Executioner transforms into a demonic tank sporting a BFG as its primary weapon. The devastation it unleashes on The Macross is what finally manages to kill it.
- Clief, a young warrior, lacking in confidence by nature, and on a bad losing streak, is trying to find details about his past, and now finds himself fighting a literal Goddess on a dying planet. He knows he's out of his league and has already contemplated how fit a place to die this might be, and, after fighting one another for a little while, Emote (in her Anger form) taunts him by saying he has a pretty coat and should take it off so it doesn't get damaged, then goads him to unleash his strongest ability, which she is fully aware of. Clief's response to all this?Clief stared at his opponent, quickly measuring her up. Any kind of tactics he had learned over all of his battles would come forth in this one. He was facing a goddess; a being on another level from himself. It was all out or die; that was the type of fight he was now taking part in. He unclipped his sheathe from his hip and stabbed it into the ground. He then proceeded to take his coat off, as requested, and hooked it over the hilt of his steel sword. Emote hovered in the sky, watching her prey as he did as she commanded. A large smile erupted on her face as she watched Clief prepare to go all out.You know what to do Duegan, let's go
