Go To

In the far reaches of space lies the peaceful planet of Lazeria, a lush paradise shared by humans and a race of aliens known as the Megalos that fled to the new world after war broke out on their original home. Of course, you won't hear about any of that stuff too much outside of the opening info dump. Rather than some big space war The Humanoid is more of a slice of life title focusing on a small cast of characters living on Lazeria. While there are a few action scenes and a government conspiracy going on in the background most of the OVA is spent on character development and how the cast interacts with the titular Humanoid, a robotic gynoid named Antoinette invented by the brilliant Dr. Watson.

At only 45 minutes long it can easily be watched in a single afternoon and is currently available in its entirety on Youtube so it's highly recommended that potential readers actually watch it before moving on down to the rest of this page.

The Humanoid provides examples of:

  • Big Bad: Governor Proud. He's an insane power-hungry Megalo commander who wants to use a pair of devices to activate Ixian even though the destructive potential of the machine could put the entire planet at risk.
  • Fembot: Antoinette is a humanoid female gynoid designed to look like a woman with metallic body. Notable as all of the other robots are just basic combat droids.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In the end Antoinette boldly sacrifices herself to shut down the Ixian for good.
  • Human Aliens: The Megalos are only really noted to be aliens in the opening text crawl. It can be surprisingly easy to forget that there are even any aliens in the OVA at all due to how much they resemble normal humans.
  • Mecha-Mooks: Several combat droids are seen operating under the command of the Megalos government and tend to serve as enemies during the action scenes.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Captain Alan is absolutely obsessed with the stuff, particularly in the form of java. Roughly half of his dialogue is about coffee and that is not hyperbole. The man talks about coffee more than he does his own wife.
    Eric: Alan, your coffee's ready.
Alan: Ah coffee, my salvation from my day to day drudgery.
  • Single Tear: Antoinette sheds a single tear (complete with "TING" sound effect) right before dying after she shuts down Ixian... despite being a robot.
