Guru Guru Town Hanamaru-kun is a 1999 anime based on the Hanamaru Kids magazine. The characters were created by Masuko Sugiyama in association with Gakken Holdings, and the anime was produced by Studio Pierrot for TV Osaka.

The anime focuses on a dog named Hanamaru and his animal friends in Guru Guru Town, enjoying their lives together.

Provides examples of:

  • 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: The opening scene in the superhero segments always consists of the birds (which are 2D animated) in a CGI rendition of Guru Guru Town.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife
  • Big "NO!": Shimao does this twice in episode 84 when the boys misunderstand his views of executive business, complete with him turning into a poorly drawn version of himself.
  • Christmas Episode: "The Old Christmas Tree/Christmas Eve/Hanamaru King Deluxe: It's Time for Revenge!"
  • Clip Show: Episode 88 consists only of superhero segments from previous episodes.
  • Conspicuous CG: The intro to the "Song Corner" segments beginning with episode 26 is entirely done in CGI.
    • At least one episode has a brief scene done in CGI, using the same Hanamaru model as the example above.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Shimao has his moments, despite his otherwise friendly personality.
  • Eye Catch: This anime has all sorts of eye catches after another between each segment.
  • Gratuitous English: A few of the bridging scenes during episodes have Yuuho-san and/or the mushrooms saying English phrases.
    • A scene in episode 84 has Shimao teaching the boys "Business English", which is nothing but nonsensical phrases.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: The girls all have had their moments, but Maruru takes the cake.
    • Shimao also does this during the Hanamaru Prince segment in episode 15.
  • Saturday-Morning Cartoon: TV Tokyo broadcasted it on Saturday mornings at 7:30 beginning on April 29, 2001.
  • Sick Episode: "Mom is Ignoring Me". Hanamaru wants to intentionally catch his sister Maruru's cold to get attention from his mother, but then decides to catch it from his friend Shimao instead.
  • Slice of Life
  • The Song Remains the Same: All foreign dubs except for the Valencian dub do this.
    • Subverted with the European Spanish dub. Only the opening and the first ending are dubbed, while the remainder of the songs are left in Japanese.
  • Toothy Bird: Penpe (a penguin) is shown to have teeth at certain moments.
  • Valentine's Day Episode: "Valentine". Downplayed by the fact it's paired with two regular segments.
