Meanwhile, Kogoro, Ran and Sonoko have come to Singapore to cheer on the strongest karateka with a streak of 400 consecutive victories, Makato Kyogoku who is participating in a karate tournament held there, with the prize being a belt with the Fist of Blue Sapphire. Conan wants to go to Singapore to spend time with his new girlfriend Ran but a lack of a passport and Haibara’s refusal to give him an antidote for his condition leave him out of luck. Luckily for him, Kaito Kid with his eyes set of the Sapphire, has other plans.

The Fist of the Blue Sapphire provides examples of:

  • Ambiguously Brown: Conan spends the large majority of the film’s runtime with a very notable tan.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Leon Lowe is the main antagonist for most of the movie, being the one who murders Sherilyn Tan at the start and later kills Rachel Cheung when she attempts to disclose to Kogoro her role as an accomplice, all to acquire the Fist of Blue Sapphire and use it as collateral to a pirate crew to hijack an oil tanker to blow up Singapore. However, Rishi Ramanathan was the one who actually framed Kid in order to disrupt Lowe's plans, had his own plans to get rid of Lowe and others involved in the death of his father (which included the above two victims), and at the climax he uses Sonoko to bribe said pirate crew to work for him instead, becoming the main threat.
  • Crushing Handshake: When Hezli Jamaluddin he notably dishes one out to Makato who completely No Sells it.
  • Death Trap; After Kid fails to steal the fist and gets tazed, Leon Lowe very elaborately tries to drown Kid as opposed to just immediately killing him.
  • Monumental Damage: The Marina Bay Sands ends up being completely totaled by the end of the film, with its pool falling on the bay after its base on the three towers gets blown up.
  • Sequel Goes Foreign: This is the first Detective Conan film to primarily be set in another country than Japan, namely Singapore.
  • Sequel Hook: A night sky lowers to a beautiful city before it’s covered by a sniper’s scope. The owner makes a wish as a way to hype of the 24nd film, Detective Conan Film 24: The Scarlet Bullet.
Akai Shūichi: Let this reach…to the distant beyond.
