The Akai Clan’s Scarlet Reunion?! note

"The speed of this train is comparable to the muzzle velocity of bullets. People around the world have dubbed it the “Japanese Bullet.” "
TV Announcer

Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet is the 24th Detective Conan Theatrical Film in the franchise. It was directed by Chika Nagaoka , written by Takeharu Sakurai, produced by Isato Yonekura, Keiichi Ishiyama and Shūhō Kondō and scored by Katsuo Ono. It was originally scheduled to be released in Japan on April 17, 2020, which made it the first movie to premiere in the Reiwa period, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. It was released on April 16, 2021

Japan is celebrating the upcoming World Sports Games, the world's largest sporting event, in Tokyo. The "Japanese Bullet," the world's first vacuum-tube super-conducting linear train, is built with the latest Japanese technology and timed to coincide with the WSG opening ceremonies. The train is set to run from Shin Nagoya Station to Tokyo Station at up to 1,000 kilometers per hour. However, a bizarre incident occurs during a party held by famous major sponsors, leading to a string of kidnappings of top executives. Conan deduces a possible link to serial abductions in the WSG 15 years earlier in Boston.

The Scarlet Bullet provides examples of:

  • Action Prologue: The film picks up fifteen years ago in Detroit, Michigan as Morgan Tracy, T.M. Auto Manufacturer CEO, runs from a mysterious assailant. He is able to make it onto a train, before being shot dead In the Back.
  • All for Nothing: Inoue and Shirahato commit the kidnappings (and later the destruction of the Hyper Linear train) as revenge for what they believe to be the wrongful conviction of Makoto Ishihara 15 years ago - except Ishihara did, in fact, commit those abductions (and one murder), as the culprit of the copycat crime 4 years later (who was also a part of the same abductor group) confessed in exchange for a plea bargain, and Inoue's family didn't leave the US due to being ostracized, but because they were put into witness protection, meaning the entire revenge scheme was for nothing.
  • All Up to You: Shūichi Akai declares this after he does his part by firing a silver bullet after the bullet train.
Akai Shūichi: I leave the rest to you…little boy.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Osamu Inoue and Maiko Shirahato team up to take revenge against the FBI.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Akai has been known to pull these off in the past, but hitting a target in the shoulder hundreds of miles away while said target is speeding away from him in a bullet train going at the speed of 1000 km/h going through a magnetic tunnel has got to be a new record for him.
  • Prolonged Prologue: Before the film franchise’s Title Card plays a record 15 minutes 30 seconds pass.
  • Sequel Hook: The camera pans from beautiful Sakura trees to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Headquarters as a member of a certain group of young men cheers them on from something upcoming.
Young Man: Hey guys! We’re up!
    His friends: Yeah!
