19:And Now For Something Completely Different

"Yeah, you know what? Give me something different. Give me a different fucking game!"
The Angry Video Game Nerd, upon being presented with this choice.

After a bit of music, Jane apologizes to John and says that she has to tell him something, prompting him to say "Oh god, here it comes." He suspects that her dark secret is having a boyfriend or an STD, but she's merely a virgin. John is thrilled that he's the first to have a go at someone as attractive as Jane, although he concedes that marrying a virgin in the 90s is too good to be true. When he finds out that she intends to remain a virgin, he's less pleased, and when Jane says she intends to become a nun, he tells her to drop the joke because he loves her. Jane says she loves John in ways he'll never know, but since she was little (and since when she seriously considered Thresher's offer?), she's known in her heart that she'll serve God, which involves sacrifices on her part, including her love for John.

John stammers for a moment, and reminds Jane that he saved her life, and asks for some "quality time" in return. Jane says that she dated enough men to earn a reputation as a "PT", but didn't give any of them "quality time," save for what one would get at church. John says he has had a congenital problem from the day he was born, that afflicts him with uncontrollable urges that must be fulfilled (three guesses and the first two don't count). Jane apparently had the same problem once, but fought the devil out of her soul and kept her virginity. Jane thanks John for saving her virginity, offering to pray for him and buy him dinner, but John laments that he has plans at his mother's. Oblivious to how strained John's relationship with his mother is, Jane remarks that he's "a nice son," and compliments his tie.

Harry berates us for matching John with "a nun wannabe," when Jane's status as such is as much news to us as it is to her (sinc e it's never come up before, not even in the argument over her getting married), and for having John get forced into a Shotgun Wedding with Amy (which is unlikely to happen unless he got her pregnant).
