17:The Lesser of Two Evils

John accuses Thresher of thinking of Jane as "some bimbo". Thresher tells John to let Jane make her own decisions, which would be a good opportunity for Jane to say something along the lines of "You're right, it's my decision, and I say no," but John continues by saying that hell will freeze over before Jane accepts.

John turns to Jane and says that he's loved her since they first met and saw her in his dreams, which makes him seem more obsessed than in love. Jane says that "it is a lot of money," but John cuts her off, asking "What about us?" and saying that he doesn't want her to end up with Thresher, even for a night (fair enough, considering the kind of sleazeball Thresher is). Of course, Jane asks if John has the same goal in mind, and his offer is a pizza. John says it's not true, and says that he doesn't want her for a night, but a lifetime, which would be fairly heartwarming if their love was strong enough for him to believe what he's saying. He then says that he's "been searching for me... for you" which results in laughter, asking whether it's a Freudian Slip, and the crew ultimately deciding to Throw It In!, something that generally only works when it's subtle enough that people don't notice that anything's out of place.

John starts over, repeating "I don't want you for a night. I want you for a lifetime. I've been searching for you." He concedes that she's probably not perfect, as someone who likes money too much, is a Daddy's Girl and is spoiled rotten, but he declares that she can't be bought, since it only happens in the movies. Thresher counters that it happens every day, and offers Jane a few thousand for a few hours. Thresher gets a yes answer, but not from the woman he wanted, and he frantically tries to back out of the deal (to the point of wanting them to call the police) as John and Jane walk off, with Jane smugly saying that he just proved that he can buy love. Thresher screams in protest as they walk off, and the woman promises to give Thresher his "money's worth."

Back in the parking lot, Jane thanks John, saying no one has ever done anything like that for her, and asks him whether he meant what he said about how he felt about her. John says he did, since he never felt this way before. Jane feels overwhelmed, and John agrees, saying he's in love, and he wants her to kiss him as if it's the last time.

Harry, once again in a chicken mask, offers halfhearted congratulations about how it's "finally getting steamy in the asphalt jungle" and doesn't believe that the player could have managed it given that their score is so low. He then offers the player a final choice, between the Hollywood ending and something completely different.

For the Hollywood ending, go to Installment 18
For something completely different, go to Installment 19.
