MLLSD Chapter 16: Anzio's MLLD Debut, Part 1

The chapter begins with Anchovy having some pasta, and while she doesn't like the carrots in it, she forces them down as her schoolmates cheer her on.

Anchovy calls the students to assembly and tells them to turn in the forms so they can tell how many to serve pasta. One student, however, reveals that she's going to Oarai, much to Anchovy's horror, as the student tries to find out how to answer this. Rumors abuzz, with some wondering whether Oarai is more wealthy than they are, whether they received money from the Nishizumi school (I can see why they'd make that assumption, but it's unlikely to be true), that the girls are lady-like, some are strange and the freshmen are cute. Finally, it turns to food, and they believe Oarai has good food, including the sweet potatoes.

Anchovy asks Carpaccio what to do, because the Anzio girls, all honest with their feelings, became Oarai students. Unfortunately, Carpaccio has changed into an Oarai sailor fuku, which she obtained from Caesar as a favor. Of course, Caesar ended up getting Oryou's, apparently not entirely intentionally, leaving Oryou without a uniform now that her other set is in the laundry.

As Carpaccio runs off, Anchovy turns to Pepperoni, who wants to eat Oarai's "tank katsu," having tried and failed to make one of her own, apparently because she tried to make it the same size as a tank (and may not have used the correct meat). As Anchovy pleads with Pepperoni to actually think, Pepperoni runs off, leaving Anchovy behind.

Apparently, all of the Anzio girls stow away on the same transport ship together, with the crew annoyed by how noisy they are.

The girls are amazed at how Oarai doesn't have to save electricity, the air conditioner is working properly, and there's a piano and a TV on the wall. Considering that you can see the club buildings in disrepair, one has to imagine how bad things must be at Anzio. In any case, though, Anzio believes that the other two parts of the trifecta- cute girls and good food- are there, and exuberantly yell "Oarai fuck yeah!" as Saori notices that they're out of place.

What looks like Imagine Spot of romantic reunion between Caesar and Carpaccio ensues, which looks like it's out of a shoujo manga happens, as the other History Team members wonder where they saw her before.

Pepperoni gets caught up in the volleyball team's practices, and, for the briefest of moments, wonders why she's there.

Anchovy considers making some good food to get the girls to come back, but without her two ranking officers, she's unable to do so and curls up in a fetal position.

Anchovy, however, is luckier than she thinks. As one Anzio girl tries to pick up Yuuki, another shambles forth in despair, saying there's no snack time. As they wonder if the girls from Oarai will starve, they notice that there are no food stalls, either. Sodoko, a bit confused at their question, notes that there won't be any outside of festivals, and notices that she hasn't seen them before. Finally, the last straw comes when the Anzio students learn that the entire school is out of pasta(which must be quite a feat), leading to a Mass "Oh, Crap!".

Not long afterward, Momo notices some people using a darkened room, and gets pulled in by the Anzio girls, driven mad by their desire for pasta to the point that they're willing to use less than proper utensils and ingredients to make it- and Momo's one of the latter.

As Pepperoni wipes off some sweat, Taeko asks her who she is, and Pepperoni guilelessly tells Taeko her real name and her actual school.

Carpaccio checks the sleeve of her uniform and discovers Oryou's name written there.

(Cue Yakkety Sax; they actually have that cue)

The Anzio girls attempt to escape to the convenience ship with Momo as their hostage, but Anzu is determined to stop them even if it means shooting Momo, much to Yuzu's chagrin. Meanwhile, the volleyball club wants to recruit the Anzio girls even if they know they're from a different school.

As Anchovy, resigned to her despair, tries on an Oarai uniform, Carpaccio and the others return, looking somewhat worse for wear. Anchovy's surprised to see them back, and even more surprised to learn that Oarai's shortcomings caused them to have renewed appreciation for Anzio. Anchovy, quite thrilled, throws a party.

Back on Oarai, Anzu isn't too bothered by the loss of all the carrier's pasta or of Momo, while Caesar, nursing where Carpaccio slapped her, wonders what she did to hurt her feelings.

Next Installment: The story continues with Momo finding her niche at Anzio.

Alas, the Yaketty Sax is a translation gag (/ak/ usually doesn't do them - for this one made an one-time exception to the policy)

erana,

I see what you mean. It certainly fit the scene in this case, though.
