Duel Six: Into the Fire

Second smouldering corpse!

Duel 6: Into the Fire

(classroom)

Anzu: It's only a week to our first high School Festival, so let's brainstorm booth ideas.

Random Student: How about a Haunted House?

Anzu: Class C called dibs on that.

Jonouchi: Since the idea is to get more customers than the other classes, my idea is "High School Strip Club." The girls will dance around in these skimpy outfits, see, and—

Girls: NO! Bad Jonouchi!

Jonouchi: What? It's a great idea.

Anzu: Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Students: Gabble gabble.

Hanasaki: I just wanted to let you know I'm a recurring character.

Students: Gabble gabble.

Yugi: Since I'm the star of the manga, I think you'll find my suggestion of carnival games strangely compelling.

Student 1: Yugi is correct.

Student 2: I concur.

Anzu & Jonouchi: Let's do it!

Narrator: Points of interest: the pirate-stabbing game is based on the one Yugi was playing in the first chapter; there's a winery in easy hauling distance of Domino City, and Honda owns an air rifle.

Anzu: And I drew the best booth spot in the land lottery!

(festival grounds)

Students: Only three days left!

Anzu: It's fun to work together.

Yugi: I've finished making the silly pirate mask.

Jonouchi: And I'm almost done with rigging the barrel, thanks to my model building skills.

Anzu: So, you aren't completely useless after all.

Jonouchi: Let me demonstrate the barrel by getting into it. Boy, I sure pity the guy who gets stuck being the pirate.

Anzu: Thanks for volunteering, Jonouchi.

Yugi: I knew we could count on you!

Inogashira: What are you puny tenth-graders doing in our spot?

Yugi: He looks kind of old for a high school student.

Anzu: Your spot? We won this fair and square!

Inogashira: Foolish girl! I care nothing for your "fair and square." This is where Senior Class D always makes its okonomiyaki, at least every year I've been in the class. Remove those foolish games!

Jonouchi: Fight scene! Awright! Lemme at him!

Inogashira: You didn't really think I'd let you get out of the barrel before attacking, did you?

Yugi: Ooh, that's got to hurt.

Inogashira: Okay, men, use our six-inch thick slab of steel masquerading as a grill to smash the games those weaklings have been working so hard on!

Yugi: Please stop that.

Inogashira: No mercy for the weak! Smash away!

(The seniors trample Yugi.)

Inogashira: See? The strong can take what they want.

Student 1: There's nothing we can do. They're too big and strong!

Student 2: If only someone in our class had mysterious powers.

(infirmary)

Anzu: Yugi, you're alive!

Yugi: [[ProtectorateMust...protect...games]].

Anzu: Too late, Yugi. Even though that space belongs to us, the school administration doesn't care. *snf*

Millenium Puzzle: Choom!

Anzu: That's funny, why did Yugi suddenly dive out the window?

(festival grounds, night)

Inogashira: Obviously, I learned nothing from Ushio's example, as I'm showing up at your invitation, Yugi.

Yami: Let's play a game. Table hockey. But instead of a normal table, we'll use this grill you provided, heated to 100 degrees Centigrade. Instead of paddles, we'll use okonomiyaki spatulas. And the puck will be this large round block of ice, inside which is a test tube filled with nitro. Miss, or have the "puck" on your side when the ice melts enough to let the chemicals heat up, and you lose.

Inogashira: Even though I think it's going to be a walkover, I can't refuse a challenge.

(they start batting the puck back and forth)

Inogashira: My arm strength gives me a big advantage here!

Yami: He's right. Fanfic writers please note, I'm not particularly muscular.

Inogashira: Haha!

Yami: Maybe I should have picked a nice game of shogi instead. Wait, if I stop trying to slam it back and instead just strike the puck precisely....

Inogashira: Behold my power return! Wait, you cracked the puck in just the right spot for my return to split the ice open and send the nitro straight at meee!

Yami: It's not clear if you're dead, but since no one seems to care later, it doesn't make a lot of difference.

(festival day)

Yugi: We worked really hard to repair all our games in time!

Jonouchi: And I have fun being the pirate.

Anzu: See what friendship can do?

Okay, this is the other chapter I distinctly remember. I have to say, I'm really enjoying your summary/spoof take on this series so far. Oh, and it's all coming back to me how Honda/Tristan wasn't a complete nobody back then. In fact, he was actually kind of badass. The Hell happened to that?

The total takeover of Duel Monsters (tm). Since all situations were now required to be resolved by playing a children's card game, that Honda didn't play...sucks to be him.

Annoying though that Anzu, who started as a better card player than Jonouchi, never got to develop her skills.

Pffff. Ever thought about becoming a comedian? This reads like the abridged series of the early manga.

Let's see, what comes next? Is it the 'Joey/Jonouchi was in a gang' chapter?

Nope. Honda's love life.
