* UnfortunateImplications: ''First Class'' seems to gets the worst of this. [[spoiler: Just look at Angel's FaceHeelTurn, Darwin becoming the first casualty within Xavier's new team, Raven joining Erik's team, and even non-mutant Moira being mind-wiped against her will and treated with scorn by her colleagues because of it. By the end of the film, the only heroes left are Charles, Hank, Alex and Sean - all of whom are Caucasian and male, or at least were, in Hank's case. And even among the more diverse antagonists, the Brotherhood of Mutants, who's the leader? Erik - the only one who is male and obviously Caucasian (although being Jewish, he is an ethnic minority), as opposed to Azazel, whose appearance is more inhuman even in movie-verse, and Riptide, who is of indeterminate race in the film and portrayed by a Spanish actor.]] I realize that their hands were somewhat tied by the canon that they were adapting, but even so, seeing it all in one film is a bit much. Not to mention turning ''both'' foreign good guys (Moira and Banshee) into Americans.

Just adding some details!

** Some DoubleStandard / {{Hypocrisy}} action undercuts Erik's "go naked" argument to Raven. He tells her her blue form is just as valid as normal human skin, but is also not worth covering up the way he (and everyone else) covers up his skin. In the same speech he also compares her to an animal (a tiger) and refers to her as a "creature".

This Troper. This page is YMMV.

** For some it makes sense. This troper, in particular, as a minority who faced racism finds himself believing more in Magneto's corner than Charles'. The characters who were white and have powers they can hide can easily hide and be given free reign of the world, especially in the 60s. Angel and the other minority characters had to deal with prejudice and hatred even before they became mutants, more than likely. There are people who actually see how this particular scenario makes perfect sense, in context.

Sorry, but no. Being set in the 60\'s doesn\'t justify the movie\'s race and gender issues. At all.

** Some of this can be justified by the racial climate of the period--non-white mutants would be facing a lot of prejudice on multiple fronts, and so would be more inclined to either stay hidden completely or else side with those more directly opposed to the bigoted human society. This idea is even represented metaphorically (Raven calls Charles out on how easy it is for him because his mutation is invisible) and referenced literally (Shaw makes a point of looking at Darwin when he mentions the word "slavery").

** Also, the scenes with Charles happily running with Hank and training with Erik. Those would be the last chances he'd ever have to use his legs...
