* UnpleasableFanbase: The first film focused on portraying Megatron as a vicious and very dangerous Transformer, which resulted in a fairly one-way fight with him pounding on Optimus. Fans complained. The sequel turns Optimus into a near unstoppable force who spends most of the movie pounding on Megatron. Fans complained. This may be because the "traditional" Megatron[=/=]Optimus is two fairly equal enemies beating on each other, [[TransformersAnimated albeit with occasional variation,]] rather than one completely able to own the other.

While the official words is that they were intended to mimic "wiggers"[[hottip:*:white people acting like stereotypes of black people because they think it's cool]], it's worth noting that for a period of time after the movie was first released, Michael Bay's most frequently voiced response to the criticism was that the movie was "for kids" or to say it was the actors' improvisation. ** ROTF does introduce Arcee, or rather a set of Arcees (Supplementary material suggests that they're bound by a single consciousness) on the side of the Autobots, although she's mostly in the background. The sum total of their role in the movie consists of chasing Sideways (who gets killed by another character), shooting two puny shots at Demolishor (who gets killed by another character), yelling "RUN" at Sam's party, then two of their number getting shot in the face and screaming pathetically.
*** Which only makes sense, considering that they're ''motorcycles'', and can hardly be expected to have the armour or firepower to slug it out with the larger bots, hence they're basically relegated to reconnaissance and pursuit. Hell, Arcee's online profile makes it very clear that she is a ''spy'', not a warrior; she and her components probably only came along because they were some of the only Autobots on hand. It makes sense from a meta standpoint as well: Bay has gone on record as saying he hated the character for not being awesome enough, and took a particular pleasure in having her killed.
*** Indeed, it's not as though he as the director had the option of, say, ''making her MORE awesome'', rather than cackling with glee while plotting her demise.
*** According to an unused character design, Arcee and her sisters were intended to combine into a single robot, possibly making her/them of similar size to most car-mode 'bots like Sideswipe. That could've easily been their [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome Crowning Moment of Awesome]] in the climax.

At least from the perspective of the movie, he didn't need to do so and could've just continued using uninhabited solar systems along with the other Primes. He chose to destroy Earth's system because he wanted to. The best motive the guy could actually have is spite for the other Primes for making a rule, the worst is just being AxeCrazy and wanting to commit genocide for no reason, which isn't a stretch as he's litterally the original Decepticon and inspired all the others. The toy and supplimental materials all refer to him as Brawl and fans treat the movie as just being an editing error, with a MemeticMutation that Brawl was having an identity crisis.
** However, in the department of evil women we have Alice, who in addition to molesting Sam and encouraging him to cheat on Mikaela [[spoiler:turned out to be a Decepticon.]]
** Of course, by the time the sequel rolls around, Mikaela is arguably more competent than ''Sam''.
*** The sequel? Have you seen the ''first'' movie? Particularly [[spoiler:the bit where Frenzy attacks? Sam's reaction is to lose his pants. Mikaela's reaction is to take a drill to his head.]]
* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: Bay knows how to film cars and taught everything he knew to the CGI animators. With only mild exceptions every shot of the robots look like they somehow animated these things live on the set with actual car parts.
** One of the computers being used to animate Devastator actually ''melted''. Also, Devastator reportedly got ''StevenSpielberg'' to drop a PrecisionFStrike when he first saw it.
* TheWoobie: Toyline-only jet Breakaway, thanks mostly to his robot mode's face (which looks sort of forlorn) and some help from at least one image board's toy board.
** Interesting when you consider the character's young, hot-shot sort of portrayal in the video game. When faced with this new development, many fans decided to [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation give the darker brown variant of the action figure the canonical game persona and keep the lighter brown variant as]] [[FanNickname the Sadjet]].

That justifies shooting the prisoner for moral reasons, not shooting a possible information source.

** Actually, the theme "Prime" from ROTF's score could refer to the other Primes and not just Optimus (minus The Fallen, obviously). On the brutalness, there's debate in that in the first film, Optimus is trying to lessen collateral damages (humans and buildings), whereas in the forest fight for ROTF, he can go full out. Regarding the Shanghai chase, IDW's "[[http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Tales_of_the_Fallen_issue_2 Tales of the Fallen #2]]" shows Demolishor deliberately hiding to bait any large forces to go after him just so he could kill them kinda justifies this trope on Optimus' part.
