** It's not really that random. Gonzo had gotten his nose crushed by door for the sake of Rizzo's jelly beans, and it needn't have happened if Rizzo had just looked in his pockets in the first place.

* BrokenBase: "When Love Is Gone". Dear lord, "When Love Is Gone". You will find fans who feel the movie plays fine without the sequence as it did in the theatrical release and some who feel the addition added to the film's quality. The debate has certainly been blown out of proportion on Muppet fan sites plenty of times, especially when the 2012 Blu-ray release used the theatrical print.

The previous entry said something about this being a combination of human and puppet, which is not true from the research I have done. It is, in fact, an actual puppet and since this is quite a feat I think it may deserved to be mentioned here.

* UncannyValley: The Ghost of Christmas Past, an unholy CG combination of human and Muppet. And perfectly in keeping with Dickens' description.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Inverted: The majority of Muppet fans can't stand the fact that the widescreen DVD and Blu-Ray more closely match the original theatrical version, in contrast with the VHS, laserdisc, and pan and scan DVD, by cutting "When Love is Gone."

* GeniusBonus: Look very closely in one of the crowd sequences. One of the background Muppets is a lobster hanging out of a basement window. This is a reference to the line, "like bad lobster in a dark cellar," one of Charles Dickens' weirder turns of phrase.

Only one half of Siskel & Ebert gave it a thumbs down.

* CriticProof: It wasn't totally panned on release, but it got mixed reviews from critics (including "Two Thumbs Down!" from Siskel and Ebert). Talk to most Muppets and/or Dickens fans today, though, and they'll almost certainly tell you that the movie was very good and stands among the best adaptations of the story by a long shot.

that\'s not what Better Than It Sounds is for; that\'s not what \"subverted\" means

* WTHCastingAgency: "Oh sweet, they're going to do a version of Christmas Carol with Muppets. Fun! Wait, with Sir Michael Caine?!" Of course, it ends up working way, way better than you might initially think. Caine went on record as saying he had a ball with the production, adding that the best way to interact with the Muppets is to treat them all as though they're members of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
** Although subverted with most of the Muppet characters, who fit their roles like a glove. Highlights include Kermit as the put-upon Bob Crachit, Robin the Frog as Tiny Tim, and Gonzo as the narrator.

* HighOctaneNightmareFuel: Every scene with the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.
** While the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come is intentionally creepy, the child-like Ghost of Christmas Past is legitimate NightmareFuel.
* TearJerker: The song "When Love Is Gone".
** Also a bit of a Scrappy, since some people didn't like this number, and the theatrical release doesn't have it. Let's just say that YourMileageMayVary on this song...
*** What does it for most people is when Present-Scrooge joins in and practically breaks down himself when he realizes that Belle is and was totally right.
** Now, when The Love We Found kicks in at the end? Try keeping dry after that.
** The dedication to Jim Henson and Richard Hunt also invokes this on a meta level.
** What? Tiny Tim's death doesn't rate a mention?
** when Kermit/Bob says he arranged for Tiny Tim to be buried on his favorite hilltop, where he could see the ducks. "He always loved watching the ducks on the river."
*** "I think [Dad]'s walked a little slower these past two evenings." That line just sets the tragedy up so mercilessly. The entire scene is near impossible not to weep at.

He has the door slammed in his face, a wreath is hurled at him, and to top it all off, we see him shiver in a pile of newspapers on the street - a reminder of the well-meaning gentlemen's points regarding the poor and homeless - and how, even though "There's Only One More Sleep 'til Christmas", there are still those on the street without food, shelter or family.

Doesn\'t have the YMMV banner.

* AdaptationDistillation: This is generally seen as a good adaptation of the book, Muppets or otherwise. There's even one or two things many people see as an improvement compared to nearly all adaptions or even the novel - StatlerAndWaldorf as a kind of double-Marley in particular rarely goes without mention, and Gonzo as "Dickens-the-Narrator" works well even beyond just a humorous level.
